  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Bruce Levine and his merry band of morons need to remember that it's the Sox that have (Samardzija) what some contenders covet and therefore it's the Sox that have all the leverage, not the other way around. Yes, that Comp. Pick and the Sox sitting marginally in the wild card hunt give the Sox a good bit of leverage. Those Cubs trade packages don't seem that bad to me for a rent, but you do have to discount the Theo hype factor from all Cubs prospects, so I am not sure.
  2. I see Erik Johnson was pulled out of 47 pitches. That suggests bullpen. What's the plan - for him to replace Carroll as Danks' caddy? Davidson is walking 15% of the time and will hit 20+ homers. There's something to work with there.
  3. The other guy the Sox sent in the Myers trade is about the same age and looks fairly similar, although in AA.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) i don't know if it is me, but he is still really raw. he still has time to continue to grow. I agree with you. he needs to show more power though.
  5. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) Almonte for Beckham. Blackmar and Chalas for DeAza Delmonico we picked up after he was released (by the Brewers?) They all look interesting, esp. Almonte. But the K totals are low on each ....can't expect more I suppose for Beckham and DeAza
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Really is nice when you have a pitcher like Danks, to have someone like Carroll who can handle the random blowups and save the pen. Him and Duke did a great job last night. That's the problem...Danks is taking up 2 roster spots.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) I'd rather watch Davidson fail for the 1st time than Beckham for the 5th time. There is still a 0.1% chance that Davidson can be a everyday MLB player. That percentage is dead zero for Gordon. Agree 100% Davidson only 24. There are players who are late bloomers. He obviously has some talent.
  8. At which minor league level does the Rule 5 clock start to tick? Looks like Myles Jaye may be Rule 5 this year. He's having a nice rebound season. As for Ynoa, he gives up a hit an inning, strikes out a hitter per inning, and walks a batter every other inning. but he hasn't given up a homer yet. Too bad his Rule 5 eligible because he's not someone I would give up.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:57 AM) Anyone calling for Matt Davidson should never be able to complain about White Sox prospects anymore. And when he fails, should be suspended if they complain even once. He's hitting .230 and striking out at an incredible clip in his third go around at a level a 22 year old Carlos Sanchez had no problem with. his K totals are off the charts. I wonder how many swinging strikes he takes v. how many called strikes he takes. With his high walk totals (15% of the time), he's obviously looking for "that pitch" and perhaps overly-willing to sit back down if he doesn't get it. If so, it may be something that he could realistically improve on.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) Again, what are our options? My comment was in response to the idea that teams would want to trade for Laroche and take his salary. But if teams would, yes I would trade him if a team would give us a good prospect. Options? I don't know.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Maybe so, but $13M remains a fairly reasonable rate to pay a guy to hit .250ish with 20+ bombs and 80 or RBI. The bigger issue for the Cards is that Matt Adams will be back next year and then there is no where to play LaRoche. But Laroche is hitting .229 and on pace for about 20 homers with an OPS of .721. You can get that for a lot cheaper than $13 million.
  12. Where oh where has Noesi been? Hasn't he been in Charlotte for a few weeks?
  13. Speaking of old rankings, take a look at Baseball America's ranking of the top 1 Angels prospects from 2010: 1. Hank Conger 2. Peter Bourjos 3. Mike Trout
  14. If they are serious, I wish they had played it smarter and taken full advantage of the 2 year penalty they'd get.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) A fun hypothetical i've been thinking about... trading for Donaldson instead of samardjiza. Assume all pieces from major league club gone (obviously may have taken some prospects, but this only concerns this year), remove smarj from rotation, assume noesi: What do you think our record would be? Better/Same/Worse? Do same hypothetical and you can assume healthy McCarthy (for kicks). Better this year and much better for the future. Not even close. The one obvious thing is that Donaldson isn't a FA until 2019. That said, Toronto gave up more for Donaldson than we did for Shark.
  16. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) The Sox had weather, the Baltimore riots... one thing is the Sox have played a solid week less worth of games than the rest of the league. Just weather - Sox already made up the riot games.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Hitting is at a premium these days though, average hitters might cost more than you think. Regardless, don't trade for them at this point. Using real prospects for average is a poor use of assets. 2 average players doesn't make the Sox better than the Royals. The Sox should have better pitching next year, even without Shark.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) Given what's in our system, are you prepared to give up 2 of Montas, Anderson, and Adams to replace those 2 positions? Average bats wouldn't cost that much, unless you're lousy at negotiating trades. But I wouldn't do it anyway. If the Sox were in the East- maybe. But the only chance, and it's flailing, is at a WC. As for pitching in playoffs - sometimes it wins, and sometimes it doesn't.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) More like 5 to 10 years ago now. Ever since they started tanking all they have done is build their farm. The edge that tanking provides, farm wise, is give you the one top draft choice (and they've hit on most of those). After the first pick, you are essentially drafting after the best team in baseball. They've been great with a lot of picks and work the slots, $$ and scout and develop really well.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) I'd be shocked if the Cardinals take LaRoche. He's not hitting nearly well enough for them to be willing to pay him $12m next year when Matt Adams is back. No one will take him unless the Sox contribute $$.
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) why is danks still in the game Because Vetura won't pull a starter until a pitch count is reached or the game is out of reach.
  22. Well, we knew this was coming; will Robbie get a pitcher warmed up before the game blows open?
  23. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Boston could also be a seller which will add more pitchers( Buchholz) into the mix. Could be, but they are 5 games out of the division and playing well.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Who is better against RHP, Conor or Beckham? This year, they are both terrible. Last year, Conor by a mile.
  25. So what is your plan to improve C, 2b, SS, 3B, or LF if we can't trade him? I look at the following teams in the market for what look like 3 prime rents: Shark, Cueto, Kazmir Pitt Chi LaD Arizona (maybe) Boston NY Toronto Detroit KC Houston 10 buyers for 3 pitchers.
