Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) On June 9 2010, the Sox were 25-33, 8 games under .500 same as now. They then went on a 25-5 run to get to 50-38. I know people will say that this team doesn't have that in them, but they would have said the same thing about the 2010 team. I'm not saying I'm expecting it but I'm not going to start looking forward to draft position. It would be nice if they could do that, because this division certainly is vulnerable. The Royals' starting staff is atrocious. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) wasnt that due to injury? Well he was injured. But he never had killer numbers past A ball. That said, I'd sure like to see some of our prospects match his .840 OPS in AA, but that's still not elite.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Such as a top guy from the Cubs, plus a top guy from another team to get Castro, Castro doesn't get another team's top guy or near-top guy. Inconsistent offense, frustrating defense, $50+ million and 5+ years owed. Lots of other teams to deal with than the Cubs. Schwarber really isn't what the Sox would need as a showcase piece - it's doubtful that he's a catcher, and he would be a serviceable OF. Sox need an outfielder badly, but one who can hit and defend. The Dodgers top 2 are more interesting. Most of these Cubs ideas (Schwarber and one other) are more appropriate for Q.
-
Buxton never really had those killer numbers in the minors like Springer or Bryant. It may take him a while
-
Better not look at twitter then. All sorts of proposals from Cubs fans. Can always tell a trade comes from a Cubs fan or Cubs favoring media when the proposal includes Starlin Castro as a key piece.
-
Kottras for Soto; whatever Flowers isn't, he's better than Soto. Johnson for Shark
-
What a dumb sacrifice. they should know that Ventura always IWs late in the game to set up the double play. They took the bat out of the only decent bottom of the order hitter.
-
Good questions. I think Leury was in Charlotte to get regular ABs to see if he could hit. If he isn't getting regular ABs anymore, then that's about it and his career is as a defensive replacement. Bid a final adieu to Beckham in the next couple of months, and let him take over. Or if you need a temporary Alexei replacement before trying Saladino or whomever. Kottras was always a decent hitter for a catcher. Someone may want Soto for backup help. Even if not, don't see a problem getting him up here. If he can hit, there's a spot for him.
-
North I hope your friend watched another Charlotte game...it would be interesting to see how EJ looked, pitch clockings, etc.
-
I usually think that Sox fans underrate their players, but in this case, I think Sox fans overrate the value of Quintana v. how the rest of the league would see him. But all it takes is one motivated trading partner. As for Schwarber, I think the Cubs would trade him for someone of Q's value. The problem is that he may not have a position, Theo's spin notwithstanding. Cubs get a lot of value out of media hype of their prospects. There are other teams to trade with besides the Cubs anyway.
-
Just a crass salary dump. Terrible Of course the Sox did this with E Jackson, who would have brought back a marginal top 100 prospect like Teahen was, to save $6 mill on Teahen.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) He's a senior. No leverage. Take the 10k or don't play. Okay - didn't realize things were that hard-nosed. Now was Glines really a 10th round talent; or did they just pick him so that they could get 150K in cap room, essentially punting their 10th pick?
-
Maybe I missed this but why would Glines sign for 10K, 150K below slot?
-
Yency Beckham off to a great high A start.
-
That's the way to take some names, Robertson.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Why would this loss be any different? If anything happens, Steverson will get fired before they hit the road. Sanchez might be going back to Charlotte soon though. That would be the 3rd hitting coach for Robin. Is there anything else his highness needs?
-
Putman threw 13 pitches. You can't put him out there for another inning?
-
Sox farm would be bottom quartile, as it is currently. There are strong arguments on both sides of whether to leave Sale in or not. But, as usual under Ventura, the outcome was not favorable.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) Melky devalues Sale and the dodgers have made it clear since last season they are not dealing their top prospects. Not devalues - taking a bad contract helps us get more value out of Sale since no team will give full 100% value in prospects. Attaching a bad contract usually devalues a player - but the Sox return will be below value in prospects no matter what deal they make, so they'll have to scratch out other value in different ways. And if they won't deal a top prospect, they don't get Sale.
-
Sale + Melky to Dodgers for 6 prospects of our choice.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) I think Hoffman is a future ace. The White Sox might have taken Hoffman over Rodon had he been healthy last year. They were big fans of his. He's going to be a front of the rotation starter. Would be a great return. yea, but he wasn't healthy, so a heavy discount is attached. Seems like a fair return to me, with the Sox picking up some serious risk (and serious upside).
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) I'd ask them for Jeff Hoffman because that would be a ridiculous return. Probably wouldn't be possible though. Why is Hoffman a ridiculous return for a quality major league starter at the deadline?
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) Yeah, I'd hate to trade Quintana for obvious reasons, but getting two guys that are pretty much major league ready with tons of upside in Schwarber & Baez would have to make you consider it. For the Cubs, these two plus Vogelbach are somewhat spare parts. Doesn't mean they have to move them for Quintana, but I see some or all of these guys being used to acquire a frontline starting pitcher at some point. I'd say the matchup is pretty good between us and them. If we could resign Shark to a reasonable extension, then I would do the trade. We'd still have a 1-2-3 of Sale/Shark/Rodon with Johnson, Danish, Montas, & Fulmer in the mix for 2016/2017. For 2016: Sale, Shark, Danks, Johnson, Rodon (although he's nowhere near ready) looks like the most probable if they sign Shark (which I wouldn't do for #2 money). Danish is getting slaughtered in AA ball. Montas isnt' ready. Fulmer isn't even signed and has command issues and if the Sox value him at all, they need to take their time and smooth out his delivery. Wouldn't surprise me if Dotson straightens Drabek out.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) Real talk, but would people here trade Quintana for Schwarber, Baez, & Vogelbach? Would the Cubs even consider this? Unfortunately, I think our best bet for a quick turnaround may be trading Quintana for a couple major league ready hitting prospects and resigning Shark to an extension. Just don't think we'll get enough value for Shark to move the needle. Schwarber doesn't have a position. Sox wouldn't want him. They'd rather have a .600 OPS guy who's good in the clubhouse and can play 2 positions. If Shark is as good as claimed, he'll move the needle. Trade him and sign him back (although for #3 money, not 2).

Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) But they'd be much worse defensively than the guys currently in those spots. I think the Sox can get something better than Semien in July. IF not, that comp pick is very valuable. The comp pick is not that valuable. These bogus "competitive balance picks" are used as trade throw ins all the time and they are just a few spots below. (or course the Sox never get those in trades). Meanwhile Phegley has an OPS in excess of .800. The Sox haven't produced a hitter like that since, when? And if they aren't up to our high defensive standards (and I'm not convinced that Phegley is as bad as this org. claimed, esp. compared to Flowers et al), then trade them, but for something of real value. The front office has done a poor job.
