  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) I think Hoffman is a future ace. The White Sox might have taken Hoffman over Rodon had he been healthy last year. They were big fans of his. He's going to be a front of the rotation starter. Would be a great return. yea, but he wasn't healthy, so a heavy discount is attached. Seems like a fair return to me, with the Sox picking up some serious risk (and serious upside).
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) I'd ask them for Jeff Hoffman because that would be a ridiculous return. Probably wouldn't be possible though. Why is Hoffman a ridiculous return for a quality major league starter at the deadline?
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) Yeah, I'd hate to trade Quintana for obvious reasons, but getting two guys that are pretty much major league ready with tons of upside in Schwarber & Baez would have to make you consider it. For the Cubs, these two plus Vogelbach are somewhat spare parts. Doesn't mean they have to move them for Quintana, but I see some or all of these guys being used to acquire a frontline starting pitcher at some point. I'd say the matchup is pretty good between us and them. If we could resign Shark to a reasonable extension, then I would do the trade. We'd still have a 1-2-3 of Sale/Shark/Rodon with Johnson, Danish, Montas, & Fulmer in the mix for 2016/2017. For 2016: Sale, Shark, Danks, Johnson, Rodon (although he's nowhere near ready) looks like the most probable if they sign Shark (which I wouldn't do for #2 money). Danish is getting slaughtered in AA ball. Montas isnt' ready. Fulmer isn't even signed and has command issues and if the Sox value him at all, they need to take their time and smooth out his delivery. Wouldn't surprise me if Dotson straightens Drabek out.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) Real talk, but would people here trade Quintana for Schwarber, Baez, & Vogelbach? Would the Cubs even consider this? Unfortunately, I think our best bet for a quick turnaround may be trading Quintana for a couple major league ready hitting prospects and resigning Shark to an extension. Just don't think we'll get enough value for Shark to move the needle. Schwarber doesn't have a position. Sox wouldn't want him. They'd rather have a .600 OPS guy who's good in the clubhouse and can play 2 positions. If Shark is as good as claimed, he'll move the needle. Trade him and sign him back (although for #3 money, not 2).
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) But they'd be much worse defensively than the guys currently in those spots. I think the Sox can get something better than Semien in July. IF not, that comp pick is very valuable. The comp pick is not that valuable. These bogus "competitive balance picks" are used as trade throw ins all the time and they are just a few spots below. (or course the Sox never get those in trades). Meanwhile Phegley has an OPS in excess of .800. The Sox haven't produced a hitter like that since, when? And if they aren't up to our high defensive standards (and I'm not convinced that Phegley is as bad as this org. claimed, esp. compared to Flowers et al), then trade them, but for something of real value. The front office has done a poor job.
  6. Is that southside newspaper still in business? The one Cowley worked for. Is Cowley still around?
  7. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) The Shark trade was not bad, the Sox got a legit #2 for a few fringe prospects. Actually it was a very good trade. We got a 2/3 for one year. 2 of the 4 fringe prospects would be the 3rd and 4th best hitters on this team.
  8. Where the heck has Trey M been?
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) At some point, the hitting coach has to be accountable for the epic failures of this offense. May not be fair, but there's nothing to lose at this point. I say shake things up and hope the offense responds. So Robin can get his 3rd pitching coach? So that the bench can lose the only coach who isn't an insider? That would a cynical move. Fire Williams, Fire Hahn, Fire Ventura if they want to do something substantive. Anything less is a scapegoat.
  10. The only trade Hahn made in the offseason was bad. Otherwise, he just signed 4 players, 2 of whom are good, 1 bad and 1 so-so. He also missed the opportunity to peddle Alexei. He wasn't able to make small trades to improve C. He put together a terrible bench.
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Problem is, if I'm the Cubs, the bold is a deal breaker. Russell is the read deal and Baez looks like a flop. Well, I'm sorry, but they are going to have to give a "real deal" to get Chris Sale. Maybe 3-4 real deals.
  12. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Wouldn't you like to see him pitching in the playoffs?? Yes - for the White Sox. Otherwise, I wouldn't much care. Boo hoo -Carlton had one of the great seasons in MLB history on a 55 win team. King Felix is looking for his first, what, playoff appearance?
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) Lots of words bandied about like "focus" and "complacency." Gardenhire's name is proffered as a possible solution in terms of cleaning things up on the field of play. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...reak-hits-seven Yep, same ole Sox. Worrying about the clubhouse instead of getting good players in here. Gardenhire would be more of the same. Old techniques. No analysis, no metrics.
  14. Usually, when someone digs up an old thread it makes the fans look foolish. This thread demonstrates the prescience of the White Sox fanbase, as per one of our friends: QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) I think this is more "Throwing in the towel" than rebuilding.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Well, the odds are 50/50, same as with Drabeck. Any other team could end up going after him, but it's also possible he accepts the assignment. If I were him, though, I'd probably be looking for another organization/better opportunity. Can't imagine an org. would give him a better opportunity than he had here. If Drabek got through, he'll get through. Not that it matters really.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) Probably Carroll's replacement at AAA level Isn't that NOesi?
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Heh, there are much better examples to point out how the Sox are poor talent evaluators than Scott Carroll. He's meant to be a spot starter/mop-up guy/long reliever, and he actually does fine in that role. It's not like the Sox believe he should actually be in the rotation. And if the Sox believe that 1.50 WHIPs and 4.5 K/9 is fine, that goes a long way to diagnosing the problems in this org. They know everything there is about Carroll and they think that that output is major league quality. I suspect we can throw some "good in the clubhouse" nonsense in the mix as well. Noesi, on the other hand, was coming from a different org. and Cooper thought he could improve him. They were wrong, but they took a shot.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) He's been serviceable in the long-relief role. And that's the problem. The Sox waste roster spots for players who are "Serviceable" in limited roles. The talent evaluators actually believe Carroll is a major league player. No wonder the team and org is so untalented.
  19. Who in this org. evaluates Scott Carroll as a major league player? Oh, he's so good in the clubhouse. The clowning never ends.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) Not including Noesi getting DFA'd or Sanchez going back to Charlotte, I think someone is going soon. IMO, Steverson and Boston are most likely. It's a cosmetic move, but unless they are turning over a good percentage of the roster or firing Hahn and KW, any move in reality would be the same. Well sure, make sure to dump the only non-insider. Can't blame the heroes.
  21. In 2011, Williams had one of the best deadline assets in baseball to trade, and 4 years later that's turned into into a somewhat promising AA pitcher and a back of the bullpen arm. Magic.
  22. The problem with trading Sale is that no team will pay what he's worth; and, honestly, I'm not sure that any team has the prospects that equal his worth. Dodgers maybe- they have 2 top 10s I think. Not the Cubs anymore; not the Astros at all. Certainly not Boston with all of that foolsgold in that organization.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) Well no, there's no need for a full "Salary dump", I wouldn't trade him unless I got something useful back in return for him (unless their financials are looking worse for next year than I would guess they are). However, I would absolutely be up for moving him if I could get a positive contributing player back. Agree - he should be on the block. The problem will be 4 year contract, so I just don't see the return.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Robertson has had 7 total save opportunities in the last month. Melancon who we faced last night has had 13. Yes he makes Robin's job easier but what's the point of having an expensive top flight closer if you have 7 save opportunities in a month? There isn't on this team. But no need to salary dump him either. It was a premature signing, in retrospect, but at least he's pitching well.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) Lol dude, you have been grilling him since his one bad start. Calm down. He was really really good in the 3-4 starts before that. he had a 1.5 WHIP prior to his last start. He's using service time for this going nowhere team.
