6/16 White Sox at Pirates

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Phegley had no future with the organization, neither did Ravelo because of Abreu and LaRoche. Only real value they gave up in my opinion is Semien and he has 21 errors in 63 games. Sox had and still might have intentions of extending Shark. What does that mean "he had no future with this organization?" Phegley and Semien would be our 3rd and 4th best hitters on this team, limited as they are. Even if Ravelo is blocked, you trade him for value, not a 1 year rent. The Sox get shut out by the likes of Charlie Morton, so I'm of the mind that they could find room for guys who can hit. As for Williams, his moves from Quentin trade 1 until whenever Hahn took over were abysmal, with only an exception or two. And most of the moves this winter were of the KW variety. So I can't blame solely Hahn. -
Should the Sox make an example out of someone?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Noesi? Flowers? Parent? Steverson? Robin? Buddy Bell? ....Chris Sale? Surely something to make sure everyone else knows that this isn't okay, and they aren't safe either. No. They need to make an example out of everyone. They need to clean house. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) All great moves at the time in my opinion. They just haven't performed to career numbers. I can't say that trading 4 young players for a rent, and wasting the opportunity of not selling a single player high were great moves. Hahn's one confirmed great move was the Peavy trade, and in that case, there was a tradeable commodity and KW was involved. I have no problem giving him a chance without Williams. But this org. needs a real cleansing. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) No worries, Steverson will fix the hitters. I don't think it's a matter of the hitting coach. It's a matter of lack of concentration caused by lack of accountability. Admittedly, I am soft on Steverson because he preaches a good approach and he's the only non-insider on this staff. Can someone remind me again why Noesi is on this major league staff?

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) SERIOUS QUESTION FOR EVERYONE At what point do you start rooting for the no hitter? I know that ?? How about NEVER

Send him down. He didn't have command in Charlotte and he doesn't have it here.

NL team...maybe we'll have better luck. Regardless this should give the Pirates good opportunity to scout our bullpen.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Tyler Kolek went #2 to Miami. Would they have taken Aiken? Probably Kolek. Miami likely would have taken Aiken.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) People don't like trading prospects for hitters because too many people think guys like Montas will be stars, when, in reality, the odds are still against him. Or maybe it's because the hitters the Sox sign or trade for suddenly can't hit.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) If we're determined to compete next year somehow, then trading Montas and Danish almost seems like something we must do because otherwise there are just that many gaping holes, but even then it seems like that's not nearly enough. Trade them for what? More veterans? For hitting prospects of equal ability? The latter is fine by me, but the Sox had the best hitter in the draft fall right in their lap and they passed him on. If one decries the Shark trade (as I also do) it's tough to trade the few young players we have. 2017 is a better target, just like 2016 was 6 months ago There have been good young players available for players like Shark and middle relievers. The Sox need to find a couple.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Absolutely. And the price for Q would be a notch under the Sale price. About 3 notches. I agree about Correa and McCullers, but they aren't technically prospects anymore so I wasn't considering them.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) As was mentioned earlier this thread, the Astros are loaded as well. Not sure they would part with enough talent for the likes of Sale or Q. Astros don't have near the prospects to even start a conversation for Sale. I don't think they have any elite ones left For Q yes, but probably every ML team has the prospects for him.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) If the Rangers wanted to buy they could put together a nice package based around Gallo. More likely they'll peddle Beltre, and people people will be full of ideas to load up the wagon with Sox prospects to trade for the proven elite veteran. I'd take Gallo in a heartbeat. For Sale, well, they need about 3 other Gallos.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) If the Sox end up being non-contenders then what's the rush? Too many problems to be fixed during the season for a non-contender. That's why I keep saying, patience. There is no rush. But there are times where a team is desperate and you can get extreme value making the moves at the deadline. There are other situation where you get no value if you wait (like Shark) or limited (like had we waited on Peavy or if we wait on Alexei) And then some positions generally have higher value at the deadline than in December, like relief pitchers. Thus, Shark, Alexei and any relief pitcher should be moved at deadline. No hurry on anyone else, but be open for offers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) They didn't have the money to. That's only part of the problem, they spent about all they could and the end result was they had to just go with several positions, guys like Gillaspie and Flowers with no major upgrades. And then on top of that, they did a terrible job with the people they picked (Melky, Samardzija). If they didn't have the money to pull together a legit competitive roster, that makes spending everything you had and trading away cost-controlled players for soon-to-be FA's a set of very large mistakes. They didn't have enough money to build a full roster through FA but decided to dump everything into winning now anyway. That's a complete lack of patience to me. I agree with you and at the time I wasn't on the "go for it" bandwagon...not only were there remaining holes, but the bench was terrible (although somehow they scraped up $4 mill for a utility player) and there was zero room for error...some players will have bad years, and you need some backup if they do. And they missed some opportunities. Pitt got Cervelli for a bullpen pitcher, e.g. That said, they COULD get out of this fairly cheaply losing, essentially, 1 year, but marginal resources. They didn't trade anyone overly compelling for Shark, and they can trade him at the deadline (and they should - they can get something much better than a comp pick). They could dump Laroche tomorrow if they wanted to...they wouldn't get much, but they could move him. They might be able to trade Robertson and get some value...although the length of his contract makes that problematic. Melky is really the loss and the cost. All is not lost, except for 2015.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) this was talked about last year. general consensus was no (and I agreed) its a year later. figured its at least worthy of discussion if nothing else with his contract/remaining yrs, what is the proper value for #49 imho you need someone whos got a stud catcher who cant miss as a top priority in the deal as well as a cant miss SP No they couldn't proper value, which would be approx 1 top 5, 1 top 10, 2 more top 50s and a couple more.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) I didn't mean that. My bad. I just meant the Sox don't have the pieces to trade to acquire young players at this point. Who can they move? Ramirez and Shark? That's about it. I'd be stunned if they traded LaRoche, Melky, Duke, or Robertson. They want to win in 2016. how are they going to get players to win in 2016 if they don't want to trade anyone? The first 3 won't bring much; if someone wants to send elite talent for Robertson, by all means bring it on. On a side note, the Sox gave away 2 more outs today on the basepaths. It adds up.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) The object is to get the 2016 team to .500. Then 2017 we shoot for the wildcard Who said that? It's a reasonable objective to me, but if that was the objective you don't trade 4 players for 1 year 2015 rents, you don't spend $4 mill on utility infielders, etc.

One of the effects of high Ks is high pitch counts. Can't K a guy on 1 or 2 pitches. And today was high.
-
The ML team is so dull, I'm now interested in Kanny org guys. Who is this Hunter Jones and from whence he came?
-
Gillaspie is 7 for his last 20. He hit the lead HR in the 8th yesterday (and then was pulled by the whiz on the bench in the 9th). But, please bench him for Beckham who is ZERO for his last 21, with a couple of walks thrown in.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) I agree. While Shuck is hitting pretty well ( .280 +) he should be playing every day until he cools off. He is hitting almost 50 points higer than Eaton or Melky. So unless he is a bad defensive outfielder, he should start everyday. Shuck's OPS is .670. Eaton's is .656 Shuck is 4 for his last 15; Eaton is 4 for his last 15. He's also 4 for his last 11. Shuck has never shown anything other than utility level level talent. Eaton had an excellent year last year. Sox do this repeatedly. A utility player has a decent game, and they get in in their heads he's as starter. Pinch hit Bonifacio; play him at DH. Same silly stuff.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Don't we see enough cpmplaining about Danks and Samardzija ( myself included on this one)? Now we're going to add one of Drabek, Johnson, Carroll to that mix? Dear god no. Yes, because Samardzija is gone after this year anyway (and we can sign him if we want) . Danks is untradeable so no use even mentioning him.
