Most of these catcher prospects, if they succeed, will end up being like these catchers we're always dissatisfied with. Rather see some positions solidified that are easier to solidify. Pentecost is a mile away from the majors, injured. Pass

More evidence of Chicago media turning on Ventura
GreenSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Fault is a weird word to use. I mean we are in the middle of a short retooling process. We had a shot on paper this year but it didn't work out. Clearly we aren't ready at 2b 3b or C yet. So what? Why does somebody have to PAY FOR THIS? Why does a career have to end because of this. Insanity. Stay the course boys, jerksticks loves ya! That's the thing - you can live with a couple of holes, esp. at catcher. Those aren't the only holes. What retooling did they do that will help this team? They spent a lot of resources and still have a hole in LF and, frankly, RF (although I'm optimistic). They probably would have needed to sign a FA to fill LF, but Melky was questionable and they could have nuanced some using platoons or waited a year when better options are available. They have a hole at Shortstop (a big squandered opportunity to sell high on Alexei) They spent $6 mill on UTILITY INFIELDERS, when they still had holes. They sent away 4 young players for 1 year of a starter...that's not a move to do when you are retooling. Opinions vary on those 4 young players, but 2 of them are producing a lot better than their Sox counterparts. They didn't put themselves in a huge financial hole like the Padres did. But it certainly wasn't a particularly effective year of retooling either. -
Cardinals Fire Scouting Director For Connection To Astros Hack
GreenSox replied to Boopa1219's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) That was not the point of the hack, the point of the hack was to see if the Astros stole any sensitive materials from the Cardinals So why where they so paranoid about that? Guys switch organizations all the time for promotions and other reasons. you never see this level of paranoia. -
Red Sox looking for cost controlled pitchers
GreenSox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also if they wanted cost-controlled pitchers, why in the world would they sign Porcello to a 100Million deal? I guess you could say it's cost controlled - just a high cost. Red Sox zig-zagged....that usually ends up in disaster. Sox have done that more than a few times. I doubt Red Sox want to deal any real prospects. They want cost controlled pitchers in return for some of their veterans and declining prospects like Cecchini and Bradley Jr (he's worth a flyer). I read that even their offers for Hamels when they were still in it consisted of mainly Major League guys. Buckholz is a good trade piece for them; they have little after that except for the bullpen. -

Sox will likely need him in the rotation for the last 2 months of the season; no use burning him out in Charlotte.

Who do you want to see replace Robin as manager of the Sox?
GreenSox replied to Boopa1219's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No need to change now. Make a reasoned decision at the end of the season. The media likes Black, but I don't know...he seems to have managed a similarly underachieving team, although the front office may be at fault. It also seems to me that if Ventura goes, Cooper has to go. -
I like Martinez. Know nothing about the prospect. Grichuk seems fluke to me ....or maybe one of those Alan Craig types that the Cardinals can dress up for a few years before they fall off the cliff. Not near enough.
-
it seems to me that all they have done is skip Rodon. Makes sense. LOL Lindstrom...hopefully this settles any notion of him returning to the ML team. I'd rather Carroll (not that I think Carroll's a major league pitcher).

Red Sox looking for cost controlled pitchers
GreenSox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Swihart, Cecchini, Rodriguez Though just the first two would be equally dope. Cecchini is in sharp decline the last 2 years. He has marginal value. Rodriguez is the type of player they are trying to acquire. Bradley Jr failed in his ML try - he's a throw in. Too much premium and too much risk for catchers..can't trade Q for essentially 1 catching prospect. I'd rather 2 top outfielders. Don't really trust Boston prospects that have already been hyped - some turn out good, but most don't. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) You're all clamoring to fire RV because you want someone to blame, period. You have NOTHING to suggest that he's responsible for the failure of the team. You could say the exact same thing every time a professional coach or manager is fired. Result matter. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) They aren't this year. They will be again next year and the year after. They're pretty clearly going over their pool this year, so does that add a 3rd year of probation?
-
I see the Cubs have signed 5 of the to 30, 3 of whom for less than $1.5 million. Where do they get all of this pool money? I thought they were on probation anyway and couldn't sign.
-
Rangers signed #3 guy for 2.1 mill. I assume this all lines up?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos.../true/minpa/150 Just to make sure we don't get overly excited about Tyler's recent power binge. That link shows me that as meh as Flowers is, he's basically equal to these catchers for which people want to load the wagon with prospects to obtain (just looking at offense; I distrust the defensive metrics).

The other issue that Quintana would become the Royals' ace. So in that sense, one might demand and ace's price. Royals have a horrible rotation. Their pen is great, but might succumb to the pressure and over-work. Wouldn't surprise me if the Twins take this division. Meanwhile, Royals look like a team to do business with.

It's been years since Hahn/Williams made a real plus trade. That's hurt the Sox as well as the poor drafting and development. Salary dump nothing - Peavy was a prime trade chip. Too early to really judge Garcia (he had no approach when they got him - that shouldn't be a surprise - just hope he's one of those who can overcome a bad approach). But of the 3 A ball players, 1 looks good, 1 could be a bullpen pitcher in a year or so and if the other could hit a lick..... The Sox tend to get fixated on that one player and one prospect. Maybe it's better to take a bundle of good ones and the odds are 1 will turn into a player (and, no, good ones does not mean AAAA and utility infielders like Williams did in Swisher 2). I tell you who a salary dump was, or at least should have been - the first E Jackson trade. Yet somehow Williams managed to send our top 2 pitching prospects for that guy with his high salary and 5+ ERA. And it looks like the Shark trade shows, again, poor evaluation skills by the Sox on their own players.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) I won't post at all here starting this weekend. Since we can't ever seem to get along and play nice and it's making the site harder and harder to read...let's say, two full weeks, until July 18th? Deal? No need to leave. White Sox Prospects of the Month - June 2015
GreenSox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Take a look here to see who's been hot down on the farm in June. Do you agree with the choices? Any questions people have on those players? Those Marreros are org guys, right? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Relax. He'll be next. He should have been first. Much prefer to see new players get a chance rather than proven stiffs. He exists only to be Danks' caddy, and he's not very good at that. Speaking of which, 2 roster spots to accommodate the necessity of Danks in the rotation. Love the heroes.
-
Don't even think of moving Scott Carroll.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) With his performance, and his contract, he is worth a top prospect. If not, you keep him. Just don't see it. Top, yes; elite, no. Getting a top 10 for Shark was just a lucky Cubs fluke. Of course, I am not overly bullish on Quintana, so that's my bias. (wasn't bullish on Shark either). he may be statistically worth what you guys suggest; I don't see teams paying that.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) Jason Frasor/Ryan Madson, Paulo Orlando or Dyson and Christian Colon. Maybe they'll throw in Medlen or Hochevar, lol. Seriously though, I would try to move Quintana. He's not worth an elite prospect, but something like the Royals' 2, 4 and 5 would work. I think you can get full value for him and lord knows we need young talent infused into this org. I see Santiago is outpitching Quintana. Not terribly surprising - he just needed to get his walks under control.
-
What he doesn't say is what the Royals should give up. Let me guess: the org's 6th and 7th prospects, with some Rios thrown in.
-
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) I'm in complete awe of the cardinals and what they have been able to do this year. Call up a backup outfielder from the minors and he rakes. Meanwhile on the south side there's no hope in site. The Sox have no room for outfielders from the minors. They spend $6 million on utility level talent.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) It's the opposite, chris hasn't been on their level in anything other than the strikeout title, but I'm too tired to fight this one so I'll just link to the stats. If you look at ERA. Otherwise, utterly false.
