  1. Why do DSL scores come in so late? I guess the games aren't played in the DR?
  2. Not much of a track record to judge him on. He's shown a lot of power, but his OBP is pretty poor. Definitely one of those swing at everything types. How's his defense? When I see 3b/OF I wonder.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) There is a ton going on now. The Astros managed to pick a Biggio and a Clemens in back to back rounds. LOL Awesome But the Sox set the standard with the employee publicly complaining that the org. insulted he and his son by not drafting him higher
  4. I like that Hickman pick. So far only one "son of and insider" pick. And no daughters. Not bad.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Carlos Collazo ‏@CarlosACollazo May 22 Not exactly Landon Lassiter's best season with UNC. He got into some trouble earlier this year for not going to a tutoring session as well. Carolina Baseball ‏@DiamondHeels May 22 Landon Lassiter has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. UNC is as dirty a school as their is re athletes and academics. NO telling what a "tutoring" session means at that place. This doesn't bother me.
  6. Nice game by Montas, esp. against a lineup with 3 sure hall of famers, from what I read. I notice his K rate is down considerably, but he's still effective. I wonder if they're changing him in some sort of way. nice video of his last out on milb.com
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) all excellent points. i will wait until day 2 is over. but the sox may need to go the KW route, by overpaying in trades. And that's been a sorry, failed proposition for years when trading for veterans. Not only do they overpay, what they get isn't what is advertised. And then they dump them for dimes on the dollar. People want to pile on the prospects for Longoria or Kemp, or Zobrist or Lucroy, but those guys are no cinches to repeat performance. KW tried to load up the wagon for Erstad (before he was terrible, but he was never particularly great) foiled only by the Angels owner. Castro's hitting .681 OPS...yea, better than Flowers, but still lousy. You can't trade for lousy. ML ready talent seems to be something they're good at identifying (not perfect, but good). Those are the kind of players I'd trade prospects for. Not "proven veterans".
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) and that is my point, the sox will have to find ways to address the lack of hitters in the system. also remember the hitter we do have, have a limited contract. Right, but how? Free agents are over priced by a ton. The don't want to use high draft choices on hitters. Development of the ones they do have isn't going all that well. I think what they've done best is trade for major league ready prospects (Avi, Quentin, Eaton) but those trades are hard to find. You start forcing them and you fail. Had Peralta not gotten hurt they would have ended up with Middlebrooks or Bradley Jr
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) nice, i really have no clue how the sox will address the lack of hitters, esp if they can't do it via FA. The FA hitters are expensive and the bust rate is high. Chu and Ellsbury got outrageous contracts. Who's the big dog this year? Heyward (not a particularly good hitter) and Upton (a very good hitter) Both will have crazy prices.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:32 PM) Sox get a guy who went 13-2 with a 1.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 12 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in the best conference in college baseball. That's true, but there's also the question of marginal benefit and diminishing returns. The Sox have an Ace: Sale Rodon was drafted to be an ace - he likely will be if he develops a 3rd pitch (which the Sox don't seem overly interested in, but still) Fulmer was drafted to be an ace. (one would think with a top 10 pick; you certainly don't draft bullpen pitchers in the top 10) They also have as dependable a 3 as you can get in Q, which means he slides to 4. So, where do you get your most marginal benefit. From a 3rd ace, or from a hitter for an org devoid of hitters? Not to mention that they have Montas and Danish a year or 2 away and Adams 2-3 years away. They also used their 3rd and 5th picks of 2014 for pitchers. I think there's some diminishing returns at work. Unless the sox move a quality arm for some young hitters.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:05 PM) The Atlantic Sun was #12 in the RPI. Oh - thought he was talking about Happ. They got 2 good hitters then.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) But... 1. That was still an idiotic move, and more importantly 2. Jackson had 1.5 years before FA at the time and that was on the last collective bargaining agreement so that even if he were only a "Type B" free agent he would have earned draft pick compensation whereas Samardzija will bring none. Samardzija has a good chance of bringing a comp pick and a more valuable one that Type B was. Sure it was an idiotic move...Sox make a lot of those. The trade to dump Jackson was poor as well. Basically did a favor to Toronto. But other teams make them as well...let them make one with us. i'm thinking they need to move another pitcher as well. They keep passing on college hitters to draft these pitchers, well you have to get your hitters from somewhere. And KW fav declining 30 year olds and utility talent isn't working.
  13. What's the deal with Marin. Slow moving prospect and he goes to Mexico for 1/4 a season? Is Coats getting interesting?
  14. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) Cubs get a guy who hit .422/.483/.749 (in NCAA Div 1, albeit a weak conference) with a pick that could have been the White Sox #3 RPI league isn't exactly weak. He played on the only weak team in that league. Hitters are a lot more scarce in this era.
  15. That's why Avi is an excellent hitter, despite not being selective. He uses all fields. He doesn't try to pull everything.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Just to note - Samardzija is performing significantly worse than Edwin Jackson was when he was traded. The return in the Edwin Jackson deal was "someone absorbed Teahen's contract", Jason Frasor, and Zach Stewart. The Blue Jays then got the "Cardinals desperate to move him" Colby Rasmus. But he's performing significantly better than when the Sox traded FOR Jackson; the Sox gave up their 2 top pitching prospects for Jackson. Sox under Williams didn't exactly cut value-laden deals. I just want some hitters in here; don't care what position really except we don't need 1B.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) When Himes drafted McDowell, Ventura, Thomas, and Fernandez, no one complaned they were rushed. That's because they turned into McDowell, Ventura, Thomas and Fernandez.
  18. There's no reason to rush him up into a bullpen. That's such a waste of an asset. Using #8 pick in the draft to create a bullpen pitcher isn't a serious effort.
  19. Cubs get best hitter in the draft who was sitting there for us.
  20. Career obp of .275. Lord no.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Don't you need Melky to come around if you really want a shot at the division or a WC? Yes. Give him some rest now and then. But this idea that Shuck is an everyday player...happens ever time one of the bevy of utility players in this org. has a good week.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) He would also cost this team even more runs defensively. Samardzija was coming off 2 good years. Semien can hit. We could find a place for him. yea, shark had 2 good years...and we'd only have him for 1. No idea who come up with the trade, but trading for Shark is Kenny Williams' MO. (as were some of the other moves).
