Carlos Perez Getting Some Love From Ben Badler

Charlotte is short of infielders. Maybe Micah's injury will keep him out a while.

Josh Reddick is another guy who is absolutely atrocious against lefty pitching. He is a platoon hitter . He's also having a career year. Whether he can repeat it is far from a sure thing. Lawrie - well he would add to the team's tat collection. Revere is Shuck Pitch framing is absolutely a legitimate skill.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) This trade would be immediately followed by a press release announcing Rick Hahn's resignation/firing. yep

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) San Diego looking to save some money. Kemp plus cash (LAD paying 3+ per year) SD pays additional 8 mill in 2017 and 18 and takes Danks. Danks due 15 million plus next year makes up difference for rest of this year and 2016. Danks could succeed in that ball park. Kemp doesn't really have split differential plays right. Avi platoons at dh with La Roche. Johnson comes up from AAA to take Danks spot. We don't lose any prospects and last years of Kemp may not be pretty but if our cost is 10 per not bad. Last couple years could even be lhp dh after LaRoche gone I like the thinking to get someone on the cheap...but his OPS is a miserly .713 and his D is pretty bad these days. I saw a suggestion for a flip of Ethier + cash for Danks. Same kind of deal (Ethier having a better year, but been bad since June).

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) but the rumors before we got AJ was all bad, but when he was on the team, he was good.... so why not the same with Gomez??? Well for one thing AJ was brought in at the beginning of the year; not in the middle when the chemistry and clubhouse are all set. And the Sox did a lot of due diligence on AJ. And honestly with laid back Ventura, we do need players who will behave, listen to the coaches, respect the coaches, etc.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Is Cespedes a Free Agen my after this season? yes

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:03 AM) If the Twins finish over .500, I'll be surprised. The road trip to NY, Bal, and TB will be their big test. The Twins actually lead this thing and are reputed to have a deep farm. They apparently aren't even trying for any pitching help. If they don't get any help, the competition will be the Orioles and Jays.

Zero moves. But if any good player is traded it will be Micah Johnson.
-
I hate to see Cleveland make good moves.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) When healthy CarGo is a superstar. .753 OPS away from Coors Field. Superstar? And Gomez is not having a good year. People want to pay the price for Gomez at his 2013-2014 value, ignoring 2015 and 2007-2011. The price to pay for either of these guys is 2 years of a .750 OPS. plus a little more for Gomez' defense and more favorable contract.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) It is time the Sox started thinking more about defense and less about the future of Avi's hitting abilities. Giving up 2 defensive liabilities and a current fireballing starter but projected reliever isn't bad at all . I'd only offer Montas and Micah first. Or Avi and Montas depending on who the Brewerrs like more. I have stuck up for Avi as much as anyone here but a talent like Gomez is hard to pass up at his salary and for next year too. Avi is a hole right now no matter how good you think his future could be. You don't need to trade that much to get 2 years of a .751 OPS in the outfield that can play good defense. If that's the brewers price, find another player. Heck the Jays got 4 years of Tulo (far better player than Gomez) for that kind of price. Wait until December and find another Eaton type trade. Micah is raking in AAA...trade him to a team that has excess OF prospects. Or he alone for Gomez.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:35 AM) GreenSox is so big on prospects that he never lets the facts get in the way when he posts. So he's having a good season? That's the fact that you claim I misstated?

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) 3 of the guys are top 100 prospects: Jake Thompson - 60 Nick Williams - 64 Jorge Alfaro - 69 The other two are in the 20's in the Rangers system. And Matt Harrison used to be a top of the rotation pitcher, and may return to that, and can be slotted into the rotation right away. I think it's a pretty damn good return. I agree. And the other 2 are pretty interesting prospects in their own right. Some of these teams (esp Astros) have really deep farm systems. I like our top 11, but those guys are 25-30 deep.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) In 111 professional innings covering 2 years, Brian Clark has allowed exactly 1 home run. Not too shabby... I see 4 Home runs. Lots of Ks, but he walks too many. Looks promising, though. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) you do got a point, but the results are too incontinent.... the sox already has corrol. Incontinent? Freudian slip, lol? He's better than Carroll if he could be more consistent. Cooper likes him.

Gomez is 30 with an OPS .751. What exactly is that worth? Top prospect? Not in my opinion. Avi is 24 and I don't get the zeal to dump him. Gomez is worth Avi but certainly not Avi and the top prospect like Adams or Montas. Maybe you throw in a 10 to 15 rated prospect. Or better yet use a 15 to 20 rid of prospect get a situational hitter like the angels got.

Noesi - Dick Dotson fixed him.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:38 PM) Prospects alone you're right wouldn't land Puig we would have to work a three way out to get LA a pitcher and a combo of our prospects and theirs going to another team and us landing Puig. Same with Cespedes. Why the same with Cespedes? He's a rent...can't give up much for him anyway. I certainly hope no one thinks he and his .321 OBP is "elite". I guess a Shark-Cespedes swap is okay, except that we'd lose the comp pick. Trouble with AJP is his personality...it worked well in 2005, and while he was on the team I suppose...but it hasn't worked on all of his subsequent teams and that would be a risk especially with Ventura.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:50 AM) Here's a fun fill in the blank game: LAD gets: Cole Hamels CHW gets: Yasiel Puig PHI gets: ????? Excluded from options to fill in the blank: Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Robertson, Eaton, Abreu, Adams, Anderson, Fulmer I don't think this is feasible, is it? Considering that Hamels is on the Rangers, I would say not feasible.
-
If you're going to trade for Puig (or anyone) you can't do it on prospects alone. That would clean out our system. And in case people haven't noticed, this team is under .500. Puig makes us, what , a little above? You'd have to throw Shark in there. Something to temper the prospect toll. And if for Puig, Avi as well. Better yet, Quintana, so wait until the offseason. Cargo - outrageous contract, he doesn't hit lefties well, inflated Coors field numbers. If you want a hitter, I'd get Bruce. Ks are bad, but his splits are fine, and you may get him at a reasonable price. Do a 3-way using Shark, and take your chances on Erik Johnson.
-
He's 30, age of decline. Too expensive in terms of prospects. Sox don't need a CF. he's signed for only another year. And if people would look at numbers, and not reputation, they would see his OPS is a modest .761 this year...the decline may be under way.

White Sox will be buyers at the deadline

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:17 PM) But you need the Rays to actually be motivated to move him for a reduced price. Do you see them doing that? I sure don't. Jose Abreu is way down from last season but if you want to trade for Jose Abreu, the White Sox would demand the kind of price you'd pay for a 40 HR guy right now because that's who he might be next year again. So you don't trade for him. You find value. Even if Longoria was Longoria, I wouldn't understand the hero worship. You need 5 starters, 5 members of the bullpen and 8 position players plus DH. The Sox are, what, a .500 team? So what would a vintage Longoria do...turn us into WS contenders? Of course not. He'd add maybe 2 or 3 wins through the end of the season. You trade all of the top tier prospects for that? (it's not like he was ever a Trout or Harper). It doesn't make any sense to want to go "all in" on these players. If you want one, you draft him or you trade for him before he reaches hero status. Build the team. Look at the Pirates - pick up the C for a middle reliever; get their SS/3B cheap on the international market. They have 1 great player that they drafted. They made savvy moves. Sox have made a couple too, like Abreu and Quintana (didn't draft well until recently though, and I still suspect the Sox drafts are 2nd division in quality). -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Rodon? Not sure if Fulmer + Anderson + Montas does it. Oh come on. Longoria's value is way, way down. Elite? Not anymore. Not even in Cameron's top 50 (Quintana is, what, #30?) This kind of stuff is beyond belief. Does anyone even look at his numbers? Not only is he way down this season, he was way down last season. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Guess I'm thinking that as bad as Ethier's contract is, he's still worth more than Danks. How about we get a prospect instead? There ya go! But would warrant some cash from Dodgers. He's having a good year, but since June, his OPS is right around .700....nothing special. It's a monetarily expensive risk for ($38 million for 16 and 17, incl buying out 18).
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) I would take on Ethier's contract in exchange for Danks + prospect. Not sure the Dodgers would. I like that idea - except for the prospect part. We're taking the worst of it money wise.
