QUOTE (Real @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) this was talked about last year. general consensus was no (and I agreed) its a year later. figured its at least worthy of discussion if nothing else with his contract/remaining yrs, what is the proper value for #49 imho you need someone whos got a stud catcher who cant miss as a top priority in the deal as well as a cant miss SP No they couldn't proper value, which would be approx 1 top 5, 1 top 10, 2 more top 50s and a couple more.

"the ‘real predictors,’ are exit velocities, weighted Runs Created (wRC+), weighted on-base average (wOBA), strikeout-walk ratios, first-pitch strike percentage, 1-1 count strike percentage, swing percentage on strikes and chase rate on balls." http://www.ocregister.com/articles/kapler-...s-schebler.html

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) I didn't mean that. My bad. I just meant the Sox don't have the pieces to trade to acquire young players at this point. Who can they move? Ramirez and Shark? That's about it. I'd be stunned if they traded LaRoche, Melky, Duke, or Robertson. They want to win in 2016. how are they going to get players to win in 2016 if they don't want to trade anyone? The first 3 won't bring much; if someone wants to send elite talent for Robertson, by all means bring it on. On a side note, the Sox gave away 2 more outs today on the basepaths. It adds up.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) The object is to get the 2016 team to .500. Then 2017 we shoot for the wildcard Who said that? It's a reasonable objective to me, but if that was the objective you don't trade 4 players for 1 year 2015 rents, you don't spend $4 mill on utility infielders, etc.

One of the effects of high Ks is high pitch counts. Can't K a guy on 1 or 2 pitches. And today was high.

The ML team is so dull, I'm now interested in Kanny org guys. Who is this Hunter Jones and from whence he came?
-
Gillaspie is 7 for his last 20. He hit the lead HR in the 8th yesterday (and then was pulled by the whiz on the bench in the 9th). But, please bench him for Beckham who is ZERO for his last 21, with a couple of walks thrown in.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) I agree. While Shuck is hitting pretty well ( .280 +) he should be playing every day until he cools off. He is hitting almost 50 points higer than Eaton or Melky. So unless he is a bad defensive outfielder, he should start everyday. Shuck's OPS is .670. Eaton's is .656 Shuck is 4 for his last 15; Eaton is 4 for his last 15. He's also 4 for his last 11. Shuck has never shown anything other than utility level level talent. Eaton had an excellent year last year. Sox do this repeatedly. A utility player has a decent game, and they get in in their heads he's as starter. Pinch hit Bonifacio; play him at DH. Same silly stuff.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Don't we see enough cpmplaining about Danks and Samardzija ( myself included on this one)? Now we're going to add one of Drabek, Johnson, Carroll to that mix? Dear god no. Yes, because Samardzija is gone after this year anyway (and we can sign him if we want) . Danks is untradeable so no use even mentioning him.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) Offseaon soxtalk "I love what Rick Hahn has done" "Rick Hahn is awesome" soxtalk now "Hahn is just KWs puppet" Soxtalk if Sox were in first place " Gotta give Hahn a ton of credit for assembling this team" It was obvious in the offseason that the acquisitions were Williams' philosophy and targets, with Hahn executing the trades.

2 days in a row these clowns pinch hit for Gillaspie with an inferior hitter. Gillaspie's a decent hitter and one who is heating up.
-
PInch hit a .175 hitter. Will the clown show ever stop?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Let's think, what teams need pitching help. Houston. Toronto. Yankees. Rangers. Pittsburg. Dodgers. Boston (Chris Sale, hahaha jk) Teams that need SS help: San Diego. Pittsburg. Mets. Yankees. If the Sox are out of it, I think we can start thinking of packages with these teams. Agree. Most fans overvalue their players; Sox fans undervalue theirs

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) Maybe some will lay off Robin a bit more now. He makes bad calls but the grass ain't always greener, tonight was a horrendously coached game. yes it was. Even something as seemingly benign as pinch hitting Beckham for the superior hitter Gillaspie in the 6th was dumb. -

Another clown show. -
Why do DSL scores come in so late? I guess the games aren't played in the DR?
-
Not much of a track record to judge him on. He's shown a lot of power, but his OBP is pretty poor. Definitely one of those swing at everything types. How's his defense? When I see 3b/OF I wonder.

The entire weekend is excessive.

2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY THREE

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) There is a ton going on now. The Astros managed to pick a Biggio and a Clemens in back to back rounds. LOL Awesome But the Sox set the standard with the employee publicly complaining that the org. insulted he and his son by not drafting him higher -

I like that Hickman pick. So far only one "son of and insider" pick. And no daughters. Not bad. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Carlos Collazo @CarlosACollazo May 22 Not exactly Landon Lassiter's best season with UNC. He got into some trouble earlier this year for not going to a tutoring session as well. Carolina Baseball @DiamondHeels May 22 Landon Lassiter has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. UNC is as dirty a school as their is re athletes and academics. NO telling what a "tutoring" session means at that place. This doesn't bother me. -
Nice game by Montas, esp. against a lineup with 3 sure hall of famers, from what I read. I notice his K rate is down considerably, but he's still effective. I wonder if they're changing him in some sort of way. nice video of his last out on milb.com

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) all excellent points. i will wait until day 2 is over. but the sox may need to go the KW route, by overpaying in trades. And that's been a sorry, failed proposition for years when trading for veterans. Not only do they overpay, what they get isn't what is advertised. And then they dump them for dimes on the dollar. People want to pile on the prospects for Longoria or Kemp, or Zobrist or Lucroy, but those guys are no cinches to repeat performance. KW tried to load up the wagon for Erstad (before he was terrible, but he was never particularly great) foiled only by the Angels owner. Castro's hitting .681 OPS...yea, better than Flowers, but still lousy. You can't trade for lousy. ML ready talent seems to be something they're good at identifying (not perfect, but good). Those are the kind of players I'd trade prospects for. Not "proven veterans".
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) and that is my point, the sox will have to find ways to address the lack of hitters in the system. also remember the hitter we do have, have a limited contract. Right, but how? Free agents are over priced by a ton. The don't want to use high draft choices on hitters. Development of the ones they do have isn't going all that well. I think what they've done best is trade for major league ready prospects (Avi, Quentin, Eaton) but those trades are hard to find. You start forcing them and you fail. Had Peralta not gotten hurt they would have ended up with Middlebrooks or Bradley Jr
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) nice, i really have no clue how the sox will address the lack of hitters, esp if they can't do it via FA. The FA hitters are expensive and the bust rate is high. Chu and Ellsbury got outrageous contracts. Who's the big dog this year? Heyward (not a particularly good hitter) and Upton (a very good hitter) Both will have crazy prices.
