  1. Drabek needs to be sent down. If someone claims him, they claim him. Can't use a bullpen spot to hide a player. As for Crain, yall are howling at the moon if you think a mid 30s pitcher who hasn't pitched in nearly 2 years is coming back as the Crain we knew
  2. Wendelkin also is posting a lot of Ks without giving up many hits or any runs. One to watch
  3. He was out by a mile. Not even close. I don't know what Alexei did, but he should have been in Ventura's face to challenge because he had to have known he was out. As for Ventura.....
  4. Why is Bonifacio starting at 2nd? Johnson needs to play every day. I have never seen an organization love its medicore declining veterans like this organization.
  5. Jordan Gurrero Yikes! If you're an opposing batter.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) The classic AAAA pitcher. A shame too. He's got great stuff. AAAA pitchers usually don't have the stuff he has.
  7. The Sox don't have the depth of prospects to trade. That said, we traded FOUR for a 1 year rent of Shark. None elite, but of the 4, 2 are on Oak's roster and 2 are in their top 10 prospects list. And it's not just trading prospects - people want to trade them for their heroes, even if they have reached their peak. And then they don't want to trade the Sox heroes. This idea of "All in" for 2015 was silly from the start, and I'm glad the Sox didn't buy in (even though I didn't much like trading for a 1 year rent) They key to fixing this team this offseason will be not only Rodon, but also Montas, Danish, Johnson and Sanchez. I wouldn't be surprised for some of those guys to be in the pen in 2015, if only temporarily. But if they develop, it will allow us to trade heroes in the offseason to shore up weaknesses. Heroes such as Quintana and Ramirez.
  8. The clowning on the basepaths has been a constant for 3 seasons.
  9. Ventura just didn't have any experience when he took the job. The problem isn't that he's not "emotional" enough. Don't need fossils like Gardenhire or hothead heroes like Gibson. Just an manager who has a strong resume on ML benches and who has the leadership and personality to handle a ML team....for the next time we're in need of a manager.
  10. Coop is going to have a couple of challenges this year. the one that will be coming soon is turning Noesi or Danks into a bullpen pitcher. I would lean toward Danks (although we need a righty in the pen more) because he just can't seem to go beyond 5 IP effectively in the last couple of years. He hasn't had a lot of talent to work with. Guys like Veal and Cleto throw hard and strike guys out, but just haven't got the control or command
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) Hopefully Sanburn, Leon, Ascensio and maybe Beck, Johnson or Montas/Danish in september can contribute. Def not Cleto. I may be howling at the moon, but I still think Cleto has a chance. He can strike guys out. He just blows up. Of course we've had a lot of guys like that. As for Penny, his spring ERA was close to 7.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) This deserves some more interest, c'mon now I read it and appreciate the writeup With a thorough post like that, there's nothing really to ask or say.
  13. Nice outing by Sanburn in Bham tonight. Perfect 2 with 3 Ks. Sox will need a few bullpen arms to ship up...wouldn't surprise me to see him up at some point.
  14. QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) But is someone actually going to claim Drabek? With Putnam scuffling, and Drabek bad, the Sox pen isn't nearly as deep as it needs to be. We need Jones and Crain and a good Petricka in a bad way. I agree with the first 2 lines. We need Crain from 2 years ago. Even if he's ready now, the chances of that are not great. The Sox need YOUNG arms for the pen. The lack of them is one of the reasons that "all in" might have been a year premature. But they are going to have to go through minor league arms and hopefully some will quickly develop. Putnam sucked every year but last year, so there's no reason to give him a long leash.
  15. Where's Nieto? Didn't see him on any of the write-ups.
  16. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) Best move. Drabek, while terrible so far, should still get a look. Plus the Sox need 12 pitchers IMO. They probably should be looking at him in AAA though. you can't use him in any meaningful part of a game.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) This team fundamentals are lol worthy. They look like they are stuck in spring training. Who is to blame for that? Well we know it can't be Robin.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Thoughts? My thought is that if the braintrust's idea of a different manger is Gardenhire, I'll take Ventura.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Nothing like ensuring Abreu doesn't get an AB without a RISP. Just unbelievably bad decision-making.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) It's about as helpful as Bo Ryan worrying about the officiating...in the end, you have to get things right in your own house. Criticizing KC is just taking the focus off the more important/pressing issue. At least if Ryan is right about the officiating it would make a difference in the game. Royals showboating has zilich, zero to do with the game, other than distracting this weak minded team from its real mission. Let the Royals get under their skin in game 1....where's the leadership?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) I love Shark's enthusiasm in hitting Cain, but Cain was the star of this series. Worrying about a little showboating is just ridiculous. Get the minds right.
  22. Ventura has to pull Danks earlier. Same thing was happening last year. Still in the game as Danks was eeking along and then wham. When he shows weakness in the 5th or 6th, yank hiim.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) There was a discussion in the game thread about starters. The average MLB team uses 10 starters in a season, as the Sox did last year, per Jeff. So, other than the CURRENT five, who are your guesses for the other 5-ish who will MAKE A START? I've added a poll too, but here are some names to consider (in order of most likely, IMO)... Carlos Rodon Scott Carroll Chris Beck Erik Johnson Brad Penny Mike Recchia Frank Montas Eric Surkamp Onelki Garcia Tyler Danish Montas and Danish are pushing it a bit given their development curve, but hey I could fit 10 in the poll, haha. I agree first 5. It would be nice if someone out of Beck or Johnson could develop as major league capable. Per a statistic I read, last year there were 76 relievers in MLB who averaged a K an inning. The Sox had zero relievers (who met the innings threshold) average a K an inning and only 1 overall and that was Cleto. That and based upon what I've seen so far, I think will see some of the bottom 1/2 in the pen. But there is young talent on this list and more in the deeper minors, so help is on its way, although it may not be for this year.
