  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Other than Samardzija though, they don't have anything to "sell". They'd probably deal Ramirez or a reliever. That's it though. Just that should help a lot. The market for starters is tight right now, but will loosen up. But Samardjiza's value won't be higher than it is right now. Supply will go up prior to 7/30 and I doubt he throws another shutout. Deal him before Friday.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Espn article from last night Doesn't make any sense. You send down the starting 3b? And if he isn't the starter, why was he staring for 3 straight games. Not to mention the useless Bonifacio is on the roster.
  3. 3b, SS and 2b are far greater offensive weaknesses than Flowers. LF and RF are positions where the Sox are about equally weak, relative to position, as the Sox are at catcher. I remember the clamor for the "elite" Jason Castro, the Starlin Castro of catchers.
  4. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) SP is a strength, you can trade one of those guys and not skip a beat. You keep your big 4 of Sale-Shark-Q-Rodon and also add a bat to the fold. Not sure how you can say that would be a sure fire way to 73 wins. You could trade anyone in the farm and not skip a beat this year. Don't devalue an asset just because you don't need him today. Undervaluing assets, such as trading a top 100 prospect for an average bat, is a sure-fire way to return to 73 wins. Sox will need pitchers (2 of them) for next season. Stockpile the pitching. The Sox should be working on a trade of Samardzija anyway. Sell high, for a change.
  5. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) That's why if I'm the Sox and I'm within 3 games of the wild card, I'm trying to trade guys like EJ, Mantas, Danish, Petricka, and Putnam for a big league bat. You fill a hole or 2 with even average players and it's a whole new team. Productive prospects for average bats.....That's a sure fire way to 73 wins again. Montas is a top 100 prospect and looking better all the time. EJ probably could be in this rotation right now. Can't trade those 2 for an average bat. To rent Upton, perhaps (although I wouldn't). Danish is not my cup of tea, but he's being underavalued for an average bat. Petricka and Putnam - fine, except we need them. Petricka particularly fits this team with his groundball ways. Trade Leury and some non-descript A ball prospect for an average bat.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) Uh oh, there was a Noesi siting last night for 2 innings, lol. And 2 good ones. The Cooper project lives!
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Yep. Bonafacio's .151 BA and questionable D bring nothing except for speed. Conor brings a LH bat with a little pop and could serve well to PH late in games. Beckham brings Defense, a little pop with a RH bat. The Sox already have Shuck as the 4th OF who plays nice D and has some pop. Boni is the odd man out. If the Sox need speed, Leury is just a call up away. Bye bye Boni. Speed? It doesn't even use it well. He should have been called out on Friday, when anyone who knows how to slide would have been safe easily.
  8. Bonifacio clearly should be dropped. He hasn't played much in 2 months. Gillespie can actually hit a little. Bonifacio isn't even a particularly good runner.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) He is starting the AAA all-star game and they are trying to limit his innings a bit (I assume so he can come up eventually to be in the rotation) That explains it. Thought all of those all star games happened last month.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Good call man. I think Masterson and Kelly are along the lines of what the cubs are looking for and Buchholz left last night's game with tightness in his elbow which could limit the pitching market even more. the Red Sox, however, are more in the race than the White Sox are. They can win that iffy division....Sox have no chance to win its division. I'd think Red Sox would be marginal buyers. And they need pitching, contenders or not.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Bruce Levine and his merry band of morons need to remember that it's the Sox that have (Samardzija) what some contenders covet and therefore it's the Sox that have all the leverage, not the other way around. Yes, that Comp. Pick and the Sox sitting marginally in the wild card hunt give the Sox a good bit of leverage. Those Cubs trade packages don't seem that bad to me for a rent, but you do have to discount the Theo hype factor from all Cubs prospects, so I am not sure.
  12. I see Erik Johnson was pulled out of 47 pitches. That suggests bullpen. What's the plan - for him to replace Carroll as Danks' caddy? Davidson is walking 15% of the time and will hit 20+ homers. There's something to work with there.
  13. The other guy the Sox sent in the Myers trade is about the same age and looks fairly similar, although in AA.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) i don't know if it is me, but he is still really raw. he still has time to continue to grow. I agree with you. he needs to show more power though.
  15. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) Almonte for Beckham. Blackmar and Chalas for DeAza Delmonico we picked up after he was released (by the Brewers?) They all look interesting, esp. Almonte. But the K totals are low on each ....can't expect more I suppose for Beckham and DeAza
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Really is nice when you have a pitcher like Danks, to have someone like Carroll who can handle the random blowups and save the pen. Him and Duke did a great job last night. That's the problem...Danks is taking up 2 roster spots.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) I'd rather watch Davidson fail for the 1st time than Beckham for the 5th time. There is still a 0.1% chance that Davidson can be a everyday MLB player. That percentage is dead zero for Gordon. Agree 100% Davidson only 24. There are players who are late bloomers. He obviously has some talent.
  18. At which minor league level does the Rule 5 clock start to tick? Looks like Myles Jaye may be Rule 5 this year. He's having a nice rebound season. As for Ynoa, he gives up a hit an inning, strikes out a hitter per inning, and walks a batter every other inning. but he hasn't given up a homer yet. Too bad his Rule 5 eligible because he's not someone I would give up.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:57 AM) Anyone calling for Matt Davidson should never be able to complain about White Sox prospects anymore. And when he fails, should be suspended if they complain even once. He's hitting .230 and striking out at an incredible clip in his third go around at a level a 22 year old Carlos Sanchez had no problem with. his K totals are off the charts. I wonder how many swinging strikes he takes v. how many called strikes he takes. With his high walk totals (15% of the time), he's obviously looking for "that pitch" and perhaps overly-willing to sit back down if he doesn't get it. If so, it may be something that he could realistically improve on.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) Again, what are our options? My comment was in response to the idea that teams would want to trade for Laroche and take his salary. But if teams would, yes I would trade him if a team would give us a good prospect. Options? I don't know.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Maybe so, but $13M remains a fairly reasonable rate to pay a guy to hit .250ish with 20+ bombs and 80 or RBI. The bigger issue for the Cards is that Matt Adams will be back next year and then there is no where to play LaRoche. But Laroche is hitting .229 and on pace for about 20 homers with an OPS of .721. You can get that for a lot cheaper than $13 million.
  22. Where oh where has Noesi been? Hasn't he been in Charlotte for a few weeks?
  23. Speaking of old rankings, take a look at Baseball America's ranking of the top 1 Angels prospects from 2010: 1. Hank Conger 2. Peter Bourjos 3. Mike Trout
  24. If they are serious, I wish they had played it smarter and taken full advantage of the 2 year penalty they'd get.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) A fun hypothetical i've been thinking about... trading for Donaldson instead of samardjiza. Assume all pieces from major league club gone (obviously may have taken some prospects, but this only concerns this year), remove smarj from rotation, assume noesi: What do you think our record would be? Better/Same/Worse? Do same hypothetical and you can assume healthy McCarthy (for kicks). Better this year and much better for the future. Not even close. The one obvious thing is that Donaldson isn't a FA until 2019. That said, Toronto gave up more for Donaldson than we did for Shark.
