  1. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) I thought Hahn has said he wouldn't be interested in guys like this. He might just be checking things out or maybe just blowing smoke. On the other hand he might be looking to trade a couple guys (Montas???)for someone else an would then be short bp arms. In any case I'd like to have Robertson closing for us. If the Sox wanted to use Montas in the pen, they could use him this year. i.e. don't trade top 100 prospects for bullpen arms.
  2. I guess I missed the announcement that the world will end on NOvember 1, 2015
  3. REally hope this does not happen. With so few good prospects in this organization (and yes it's improved) I just don't see using them for 1 year of Shark. I know it won't be Anderson nor Montas, but it will be 2/3 of our 2nd tier prospects and we're light on those. Maybe Beane will give him to us like he gave the Indians Moss. This will be a good test of the Whitesox brass negotiating ability. Trade Alexei.
  4. We need Semien. We need a 2b and a utility infielder. We aren't solid at3rd anyway. He has upside. They can have Wilkins and that AAA 2b we used last year ( got hurt late)
  5. Got him for a prospect at the end of Indians top 10. Remarkable
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) Was KW thinking about resigning so he could interview for that job, or was he thinking about it because he was upset JR wouldn't let him? JR is a loyal guy, but loyalty is a 2 way street. I wonder if KW's comments damaged that in any way in JR's mind. Good question. Bad timing though. Want everyone in that front office all in for Whitesox longterm. Short-termers have been known to make short-term moves.
  7. I would consider Jason Hammel for the #4. Doesn't cost a draft choice, and he's been decent enough for the last couple of years.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) The White Sox might have won the WS in 2003 if they didn't do the Koch/Foulke trade. The Durham trade was ridiculous. The Sox picked up all his money except the pro-rated minimum so Beane would give them the great Jon Adkins. As for the Swisher trade, if that thread was ever dug up, most here loved it, and other than Gio Gonzalez, the prospects weren't much. I'll edit this down just to say that Beane took advantage of the young GM Williams in the Durham giveaway - which is why I don't understand why Williams does business with him. Oh, and then he laughed about it in his book.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) Which is exactly why this entire concept makes no sense unless we're getting a solid discount on his next contract. It's going to take someone solid to get him, there's a reason why Tim Anderson's name has come up. Tim Anderson would be a fair return for Samardzija and if the White Sox had won 87 games last year that would be a perfectly reasonable gamble for the team to take, that extra pitcher could put us over the top in 2015. Since the White Sox have won 75 games the last 2 years, that deal suddenly makes no sense for us because even if everything goes right, making a 15 win jump is hard. The only way that would make sense is if we could look beyond 2015 and expect the pitcher to be present at a continuing discount. Exactly I will say that 2 years of Alexei for 1 year of Shark is also fair. I hope they go that route, if they must go any route.
  10. I see why the Toronto fans wouldn't want him. Just go through his list of trades and it's hard to find more than a handful in which he got fair value, and he made some absolute howler trades. (some of which are understandable if you know the context, which their fans don't know). Still, I don't trust JR to spend money without someone that he trusts directing the spending. The only 2 baseball people I know that he trusts are Williams and Larussa. I think his instincts are to play small market team. Just my feeling.
  11. Oh, yea, we work well together. Give them Durham for free. Trade Foulke for Koch. Trade 3/5 to prospects for that elite bat, Swisher. Sure, Williams was always willing to pile on prospects, and that worked very well for Beane.
  12. Rodon? For 1 year of Shark? Are you nuts? Rodon may be able to = Shark, a number 2 at best, next year. Alexei only. No way does a team with 3/4 top prospects give 1/4-1/3 of that for shark. Even secondary prospects like Rondon, who becomes elite if he learns to hit, should be off the table.
  13. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:20 AM) Bullpen is such an important part in today's game. But you can also find diamond in the roughs without spending so much money but we sucked at that last year. We found a couple with Putnam and Petricka We found 2 last year. Hardly sucking. Problem is that we had a pen of 1 going into year and he got hurt. Just need another live arm
  14. No reason at all to give Tank away. People want to trade him for nothing; and yet other want the Sox to trade for player with numbers not much better than his (and substantially worse than his 2012, 2013 seasons).
  15. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 06:35 PM) Would love to see the Sox acquire Zimmerman, but I would have the same concerns as a potential Shark deal. He would demand a haul in return and he's a free agent after the 2015 season. Though I would be more comfortable locking him up for 4-5 years than Shark. But I would be more comfortable in our ability to lock up Shark. ( although not very comfortable)
  16. Who is the Sox CEO now? JR? I thought KW effectively had that responsibility. I really like the current Sox setup. My objection to Williams was he didn't get full value in trades. Well, as long as Hahn is doing that, we're covered. But I like Williams' hybrid philosophy; don't totally tear down, but retool. I'd hate to see us revert to the Pitt/Astros/Royals method of doing things (not saying it would happen). JR trusts Williams- I doubt a replacement would have that level of trust.
  17. I was agreeing with you I like what Hahn has done. I did not like what Williams did from 2009-2012, basically since the Quentin trade.
  18. First call: why hasn't Jordan Danks gotten a fair chance. Levine's explanation was equally nonsensical. Okay, time to change the channel.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) The little moves? Oh man, interesting. he said that his feeling/sense is that there would be a lot of action based on prelim discussions at the GM meeting.
  20. Cool - 670 internet streams. "It's the little moves". I like it, KW
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Hahn was dealt a pretty s***ty hand and has added a ton of talent to it in 2 years time. That'd be like comparing the Red Sox of the past 15 seasons to the Tampa Bay Rays of the past 2 years and saying "who has had more success?" Yes he has. Let him keep doing what he's doing. We don't need to revert to the KW philosophy.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) Gregorius to Yankees in a 3-team trade. I still like this trade idea four weeks later. That's the kind of trade Hahn made last year, and I hope we keep with that philosophy, rather than overpay for declining sport center headliners.
  23. How's Moss' defense? Top 100 prospect for 2 years of Moss isn't exactly peak value.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 05:33 AM) maybe i am kind of being unrealistic here. I think acquiring Moss is the kind of move that Hahn would do. the kind of player that will fit, with what i see how the sox is establishing their philosophy, getting players who are already major league players. in other words, not trading for prospects. One main problem is what i keep on saying, iit seem that I have a theme. "At what cost would it take to get this trade done." let me also explain. if the sox had a full farm system, a system that, for an example is ranked 5-10 in all of mlb. then yes, may that trade with prospects. Exactly - that's why you want a strong, deep farm. The cost to you of each prospect is far less than if you have a thin farm like the Sox. I haven't' seen Hahn trade for an established major leaguer yet. Instead he's traded for guys who are just past the prospect stage, and just starting their careers like Eaton and Gillaspie. I'd like to continue down that road, using only FA for the veterans.
  25. If I understand that guy's tweets correctly, he says that 1)It happens only if the Sox get Jeff Samardjiza. 2)The Sox think they can get more for Sale than they pay for Jeff Samardjiza (no kidding - by value, it should be 8 times more; 1 v. 5 year control; Sale is a much better pitcher) 3)The Sox don't like Betts and Bogaerts but they love Henry Owens. 2) is what bothers me about these rents. Sale SHOULD bring back 8 time what you'd pay for Jeff Samardiza. But, it would be nowhere close to that. Thus, No value in trading for Samardjiza or in trading away Sale.
