I thought they were going to a 6 man rotation for the last month. I'm not sure the point of wheeling Danks out there anymore. They really needed to dump him in July. Now, just let him rest.
-
Bravo, Hahn. I didn't make much sense to call him up anyway.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) Gillaspie has the 9th best OPS among major league 3B. Maybe the Sox should look at LF, DH, and C first??? Because I think that trading the farm to get one of the top 8 3B and leaving three other black holes in the lineup probably isn't going to produce good results. I'm bullish on Gillaspie but his defense is subpar. Give him some LF time. Find a right handed hitter and we'd have a killer platoon and a 4th OF who can actually hit instead of a Wise/Danks type

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Rodon is not starting this year. I hope he's not relieving either. No reason to waste service time on this 90 loss team. He had a long college season too. Let him rest. Like to see Mitchell up. Don't see the point of danks. Sox seem to believe that it is their obligation to have an OF who can't hit as 4th OF.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) I'd give Davidson another year at Charlotte. Only 24 next year. Absolutely

Hector Noesi & the search for 2 righties

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) If you can tell me what happened to Danks without writing him a $28.5 million check to play someone else, I'll agree. But that's the case for any of those expensive free agent righties. Bullpen and emergency starter. Depth He's a sunk cost. Do what you can with him. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) FutureSox write-up on the trade, painting a picture of Sanburn for those curious. Thanks Looks like a nifty pickup for Dunn.

Do the Sox have any plans to honor Adam Dunn next week?

No -
QUOTE (1dog @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) Has everyone gotten a bellyful of Leury yet? Not exactly sure why he's playing. Still. He's another one who shouldn't play in September - we need to find real IF prospects. But Ventura won't even even pinch hit for the guy.

Hector Noesi & the search for 2 righties
GreenSox replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Noesi will be a solid #5 for us; maybe a #4. Three more top 1/2 of rotation starters would help. Rodon should be one by sometime in 15. Sign one. And then maybe develop one in the next couple of years. -
QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Call up Sanburn, open auditions for roles in the 2015 bullpen before we acquire one outright in the offseason. I'm half joking. Study him, talk to him, see if they can make him a starter again, with that stuff he has.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Alexei wouldn't clear waivers, would he? No way.
-
Sanburn looks like a nice get for Dunn. John Danks, front and center please.

The Adam Dunn Appreciation Thread
GreenSox replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He was a poor signing, but he didn't sign himself. He tried and seemed like a good guy. -
That's got to be Montas' lowest K outing ever. Rodon is walking too many. Still has plenty of minor league work to do. As I recall, a lot of people were touting Goldberg at the start of the season as future closer. What happened to him?
-
I hate trading with Oak. Never seem to get anyone worth a damn from them. Cotts is about it. I would think they'd want Dunn though.
-
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) I have no idea what you mean. Just what I wrote. He looks clumsier than he is. Now if we can just move Dunn and Danks in the next 26 hours.
-
And even in the 9th, Robin "Gutteridge" Ventura pinch hits for Nieto but lets L Garcia hit.
-
Looks like we got a couple of reasonable prospects - not bad. De Aza's a good pickup for Baltimore. He's their 4th OF. He can hit, his defense isn't nearly as bad as it looks, and he can play all OF spots. Much better than the Wise/Danks type of 4th OF. And as for his incessant mental errors - we'll see if they happen so often under a professional manager like Showalter. I don't think it's mere coincidence that the mental gaffes from De Aza and others on this team have multiplied over the last 2 year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) If certain guys can't play hard with their jobs on the line for next year, it isn't the manager that is the problem. Yes it is. And yes he is (one of them, anyway). Players have quit on him - he bears some responsibility for that. And this isn't the first time. With his record, he'd have been out on his ears a year ago and scorned like Bevington were he not Robin Ventura, a "hero".
-
This game was not a serious effort. The team just clowned it up. Reason number xxxxx that they need a real manager.

Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers
GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) The Sox are probably looking a little bigger picture than just one start. I get it, but it's not like he's had a big picture worth of starts anyway. -

he was torched his last start, though wasn't he? -
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) my guess is several reasons, 1 terms of his signing, 2 his agent 3 to start he clock running. A little unclear, but if you're saying that we agreed to get the clock running early as part of the signing - the thought had occurred to me, but really, we paid him way over slot, nearly got hit with the penalty; that's dubious negotiating if we agreed to kick in the clock early.
