The value in the trade went to the Mariners. What a steal they got. A clown trade for Tampa - pitiful, really. I don't understand Cameron suggesting Price is overpaid at $20 mill...he really isn't.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) That's why I don't believe he was ever being traded. Not only is Hahn risking injury, but he's also putting him up against one of the top offenses in baseball. I agree. There's no way you let him pitch today if you wanted to trade him (and pay the $10 mill or so required to trade him). And he's complying, putting up a clown show this afternoon.

It's amazing that all 3 of those A ball and below prospects we got from Boston are looking really good a year later.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) It's very unlikely that today's performance really changed opinions teams have of Danks. He is a back-end rotation arm making $15 million. Today will not change that. Bah Back end piece who is pitching well > back end piece who's pitching poorly.
-
What a day for Danks to pitch like a clown.

I love the Bosox trades. Oh, I don't know if they were that great, but they are old school: veteran for veteran. Like it.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) They can still trade John Danks. They haven't given up anything. If they scratch him, they indicate that they want to trade him no matter what. They aren't getting the price they want, they believe they can get more out of him from the Yankees (or Marlins), and they do not have to trade him. If the Yankees want to play ball, then they can play ball and the Sox will pull him from the game. The purchasing team gets one less start out of him. That = lower value. I could sort of tell this last night when Rienzo, the presumptive starter, pitched (not that he couldn't have pitched a couple of innings today).
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) Not this close to game time. He's been warming up for a while now so all signs point to Danks starting this game. They didn't scratch him, so they gave up 3 hours before the deadline.
-
The Sox have to scratch Danks, don't they, if they have any interest in making a deal.

So they haven't scratched him? Giving up 3 hours before the deadline? -
Nice trade. Card dealt surplus; Boston may be able to turn one of those 2 around.

Now we're pining for Salty and his .228 batting average? Good lord (I realize he walks some). He also has defensive holes in his game. (Flowers is a better framer, and may be a better thrower too). The grass is always greener........ 2b, RF, and LF are far bigger issues than catcher. A Garcia might fix RF. Johnson might fix 2B. But right now, they are bigger issues. Young talent please. We trade for Salty we have traded for a mediocre catcher.
-
With all of these ground ball pitchers, we could use a tad more defensive range in the infield.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:38 PM) Which the White Sox almost never do...unless you count $1 million for Rios. Or Linebrink. But 90% of the time, they would rather save the money and forgo the prospects. Well, we should eat some salary. The payroll's lower than norm this year and probably will be next year.
-
Wouldn't we have taken that prospect for danks?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) I think you're crazy if you think Beckham would get claimed. Frankly, Dunn too. Beckham is still owed a couple million and he's been terrible this year. Dunn is still owed like $5 million, does nothing defensively, and can't hit lefties. Viciedo I'm in agreement on. For the same reason that the dodgers actually traded for Darwin Barney and the sox claimed Moises Sierra
-
Neither Viciedo nor Beckham will make it through waivers. I doubt Dunn would. Danks probably would. Don't see why the Sox would let Danks go for free, though; they're not in bad budget shape at all.

Law watched the Dash play and commented on 2 Sox prospects. Says Hawkins' hit tool is still awful, despite improved stats (he whiffed all 3 AB and couldn't lay off BBs in the dirt - sounds familiar in these parts). Says Rodon's range is "unbelievable" with a plus arm and he thinks he'll be able to hit well enough, albeit with no power.
-
He should challenge this, right?
-
Quintana can't let this garbage get to him.
-
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
GreenSox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No reason to DFA him. He's still better than L Garcia. Send L Garcia down. -
Why teams should think twice about trading for Alex Rios
GreenSox replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But they aren't factoring in Rios' leadership and hustle. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Except for a draft pick, and the White Sox are sitting in that "OMG don't sign anyone" area where they'd lose a pick in the upper top 10/CHRIS SALE WAS HERE range. It's cheaper than prospects; it's okay to give it up if you do so for a stud. the market was correct last year that, say, Drew, wasn't worth a #1 draft pick.
-
The other thing is that teams can wait until the off-season and make a play for Scherzer, Lester, or Shields and give up no prospects.
