We might be able to get more for Danks this time next year, if he's pitching well. But, yes, trade Alexei.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
GreenSox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (striker @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) Perspective: Carlos Quentin was a 2WAR player when we traded him. We got jack squat in return. Viciedo and Beckham have negative WARs. Well, not all 2 War players return one prospect. The Sox just made a hasty and misguided trade. They made several similar to that around that time. -
Beckham and Viciedo have had such miserable seasons that we won't get anything for them; neither will bring that "need a hitter for the pennant race" surplus. This is the only time to trade Dunn. Danks and Alexei should bring that "needed for pennant race" surplus because they are actually producing. And I don't think that trading both or either will cause this team to tank the last 2 months.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) How come nobody wants to give Phegley another shot? His numbers have been climbing as well? Because he's a bad catcher. Needs a new position. It wouldn't surprise me if he hit in the majors, even though his 200 at bats last year were terrible. I am surprised that there hasn't been more market for Dunn. Just as a bench bat, much less a platoon DH, would have some value.

Hopefully they'll move Alexei and we'll find out. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) We have 2 guys in the minors who can play SS waiting to come up. Why would we waste our time on a guy who got cut by the Cubs and hits worse then Beckham? We do have Middle Infielders, but who besides Sanchez is a shortstop? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) He pulled the pitcher when he was down 2 runs, quit being a drama queen because you hate Ventura He pulled him down 2 runs, bases loaded nobody out, after he had given up 11 hits in 5 innings, when he was in trouble all game long. i don't hate anybody. I don't judge on personalities - don't put your method of analysis on me.

Ventura does it again. He simply refuses to pull a starter until the game is out of hand, no matter how poorly he's pitching. Exact same thing he did Sunday.

Beckham has much more than Barney. That said, I would consider claiming Barney. He can play SS. Hopefully, we'll need a SS within the next 8 days. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) So essentially the Yankees got a MLB ready player (although 27 years old) and their 15th rated prospect as rated by MLB.com. DePaula has had a decent year. Low 4 ERA but strikes out more than 1 inning. I think we could get more than that for Danks. I hope we can. Solaro's not much. The pitcher's interesting.

No way the Sox can peddle Danks as a #3. Pick up some salary and get a Bud Norris level return. A couple of pitching prospects will be fine.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 11:15 PM) Flowers was also terrible when he started wearing those glasses Glasses probably helped; but the rest probably also helped. He's caught a lot of games for the Sox this year, including night/days. They need to weave Nieto in a little more, just to give Flowers some rest.
-
Just checking him out, he'd only pitched 22 innings of AA ball when the Sox acquired him. Still his overall K numbers aren't particularly high; sounds like he's improving, so I'd let him improve some more, without rushing him. He's only 25...relief pitchers can be born in their mid-late 20s.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) Unfortunately, toolsy athletic prospects with hit tool/contact issues are precisely the type that have never been properly developed in the BBell and prior eras. I wonder if RH is even able to make the needed changes in the development side of the org for fear of upsetting JR's family atmosphere. Personally, I'd back up the truck. Or maybe the Sox draft too many players with contact issues, and overvalue their speed and power coming out of school.

Jackson was good the first 1/2 year we had him. He wasn't very good the next year. And since that 1/2 year, he's been not very good except for his year with the Nationals. Retreading these guys and hoping for deja vu is pointless. And of course the trade that brought him here in the first place was ridiculous on every level. Move Danks. But get some young talent, please.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) Ravelo is becoming one of my favorite prospects. He's a hitter. He was 1-2, 2BB tonight. .406 OBP and a .881 OPS on the year. Looks like they would do well to find a position for him that is not first base.
-
QUOTE (Brentmd2 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) Title says it all...anyone interested in bringing him back? No
-
I just want prospects that can hit and pitch. Not worried so much about the position. We can accept an offensive hole at catcher or SS , if fortified elsewhere.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) I still think there's an outside chance Rick Hahn looks at his roster and thinks he has a potentially competitive team in 2015 with a reasonable amount of spending and an absolutely competitive team by 2016 with maybe even a small amount of spending. If that is the case, moving Alexei Ramirez would set that back, meaning that there would need to be a return good enough that by 2016 it would offset the loss of the player and shifting to a kid there. That's my standard. If we don't get that, I'm not interested. A "b" prospect better be a pretty darn sure fire thing to motivate me. Would it set it back? What is Alexei going to be like in 2015, much less 2016? Even now, he's not THAT much better than many other SSs. As said above, Alexei is a good hitter for a SS, but he's not really a good hitter. It's possible we could be competitive next year but that team would be ridiculously thin.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) That's absurd. The Dodgers have plenty of prospects that could make it work. You are talking about two of the best prospects in the entire game. If they were going to trade either one of those guys, they could be in the discussion for someone like Tulowitzki. People need to understand that just because Alexei Ramirez is going to likely be the best shortstop made available on the market, the Sox will not be getting top 25 prospects. They can get a perfectly acceptable and generous package of talented prospects without getting the #1 and #2 prospects from some of the best systems in the game. Agree with you. Holding out for top 10 prospects for a good, not great, player like Alexei is howling at the moon.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) Thinking it's more and more likely that Wilkins will get some opportunities in August and September to see if he can stick as Dunn's replacement. He has a sub .300 OBP in the minors. That is horrendous strike zone recognition. I had hoped we left that preference for low OBP ball when Ozzie left town.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
GreenSox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With the utter lack of walking, Micah doesn't seem ready to me. As or Semien, it's not like he was hitting major league pitching either. I'd like to see the Sox move Alexei. The player I think they have to move, or they will be stuck with him until at least this time next year, is Danks. -
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) I agree with you to an extent, but my problem is that when the Sox do something well nobody says anything or gives Ventura props, but hey a player passes gas and it's on Ventura. And what bothers me even more that no one will post anything until some bad happens and it's all about bashing Ventura. What irks me is that people still can't seem to remember this year is a retooling year.... Because like you said, he doesn't swing or pitch. It's not Ventura's fault that Danks or Webb pitched poorly. It is his fault that he left them in well past the point when it was obvious that they didn't have it (doubly true for Danks, when we really don't need him to get totally mauled when we're trying to move him). It's not Ventura's fault L Garcia can't hit. It is his fault when the only reason he's hitting is because he pulled one of the best hitters in baseball for a pinch runner. He did a good job getting Petricka out of there yesterday. Should have mentioned it. But the manager is paid to make proper decisions. So he gets properly rewarded for those decisions.
-
Unfortunate that a lot of the guys we need to move off of this team are really spitting the bit.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) Is that all you got? That's all you can chime in with? Really? I'm not saying Ventura is perfect but sheesh give it a rest all ready. Would you be happy if it would have Ozzie? Or maybe LA Russa. The manager uses what he's got, I don't see Ventura pitching or hitting, so relax once in a while. That's the point - he didn't use what he's got. And he consistently doesn't. But if you think leaving starters in to give up 12 edit hits in 4 innings, and intentionally walking 190 hitters is proper baseball strategy, fine. I certainly won't complain about you posting your opinion.
