  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) I'm pretty sure he was brought in to be more than that, Hahn gave up an interesting prospect for him. Then bring him up.
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Michael Taylor has been outstanding I wonder if he's hit any good pitchers. I assume he was brought in to be an org player. His cups of coffee in the majors were bitter, but they were small cups. But if he has the bat speed et al to hit real pitchers, bring him up.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 03:27 AM) Why is it so difficult to get rid of a first-round draft pick? They've dealt other first round picks readily enough. Poreda and Broadway come to mind. the Sox are an overly sentimental organization though.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) I heard that the biggest jump in the minors is from high A to AA for hitters especially because the pitching is a lot better, if that's the case how can Mitchell struggle at AAA so much? It's pretty similar to AA I assume, yet obviously the closest to MLB, I'm really rooting for Mitchell and loved his section in '09, felt awful for that ankle injury, and just want him in the show as soon as possible, it's sad seeing him struggle this much in AAA I don't know, but his numbers in his first stint in AA never warranted a bump to AAA in the first place. Honestly the only quality hitting he's done at all was his first season at Kanny and now. I'm rooting for him too.
  5. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Current Knights bullpen ERA: Maikel Cleto - 7.57 Parker Frazier - 5.50 Nelvin Fuentes - 5.27 Ryan Kussmaul - 3.99 Henry Rodriguez - 21.60 Taylor Thompson - 2.86 Donnie Veal - 6.12 Matt Zaleski - 5.06 I think we just traded for a AAA pitcher with a 5+ ERA. I guess we wanted to trade for a pitcher that would feel at home.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) WHIP isn't the best metric. They gambled on stuff like FIP, xFIP and SIERA. Same with the guy they just got from Oakland, way better peripherals than ERA. But at some point reality should match peripherals if the peripherals are valid. 10 years is getting to be a good sample size.
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) One thing that could go against them going for Danks is that they clearly leaned on Brandon McCarthy's peripherals before making that deal. I've read that too, but they must have gone real deep, because McCarthy has had two years in his entire career in which his WHIP yells out "real good" (and one of those years was his first year). Recently, his WHIPs have been like Danks' recent WHIPs. His K rate is better, so that may be it. But Danks' K rate is pretty in line with his mediocre WHIP.
  8. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) I just said SEC school, not a top SEC baseball program. Surely they can fill the baseball stadium for his starts? I don't know - it reads top SEC program. A guy like this could have gone to any public college he wanted to. he could have gone to a true "top SEC program" if he wanted. So whether it's top or not is not an issue. It's the guys who get full rides to the private schools that buying out the tuition is the real issue. But there aren't many of them that do have full rides to the private schools. Otherwise, some guys just want to go to college. It's a more rounded life, and really a better life. It's just probably not as good for your specific development as being a baseball player. Personally, at $500K bonus and up, I'd go to the minors. Less than that, I'd choose college. if I had no interest in college, but got less than a $100K bonus, I'd go to a junior college and try to get re-drafted.
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Ideal scenario would have Rodon flying through Winston-Salem and Dykstra going up then He's still only given up 1 hit through 5 with no walks and 8 strikeouts No use rushing Rodon. I hope he stays in the minors all year. No use wasting service time with this bunch of players.
  10. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:37 AM) Really? It is very conceivable that none of those guys ever spend a full year starting at SS for the White Sox ever. Sanchez and Anderson are probably the only semi-realistic options. Rondon is a pipedream and the other guys aren't options at all. **Edit: We're not going to be getting a top-rated SS prospect from anyone, but there could still be talent out there. Stockpile like 3-4 legitimate SS options and who knows, maybe you get one guy out of it. We have more pressing needs. Although if we trade Alexei, as I hope we do, but I suspect we won't, then we'll need one.
  11. let's see, he intentionally walks a .150 hitter. He bunts, knowing that it will take the bat of our best hitter's hands. Or did he - can Ventura think 2 moves ahead? He's an extremely limited manager and a major anchor.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Why does Ace Ventura intentionally walk Drew, who was hitting about .150? He routinely IWs hitters to set up the double play, no matter how poor a hitter he is. Ventura is limited.
  13. Flowers nets nothing - no reason to move him. Beckham should be moved - he's replaceable with what we have in the minors. We should get a moderate prospect for Dunn or Belisario. We should be open on Danks, but I don't think that he yields much - we'll see. See what Viciedo can bring. I would market Alexei - he could bring back a good return. He's got a good contract situation (a nice 1.5 years with an option). and he's a good player and there are teams in need. I wouldn't trade Noesi because I don't think we'd get much for him. He's looking like a good #5 down the road.
  14. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 08:51 AM) Ramirez? he's one of the top SS in the AL and you want them to get rid of him? The idea is that he will bring high value in return. He's 33 and due for a decline. At least see what teams will offer. Sell high.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:04 AM) Which led to a 9th ranked offense in runs. They don't give you wins based on homers, they give you wins based on runs. Homers are great, but they are just one component of an effective offense. With the OBPs on that team, they would have finished in the bottom 5 in offense without the homers.
  16. I hope we bring up Saladino - see if he can play some SS.
  17. Chemistry/personality or not, there is simply no point in bringing him back to a rebuilding team, especially as he hasn't produced a lick himself this year. I hope the Sox concentrate on upgrading young talent on this roster.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Kinda like when he was cruising against the Angels and then Robin decided to leave him in with ~105 pitches and we destroyed him Precisely the opposite. The Angels were drilling him and he left him in. Gives up one hit tonight, and he gets pulled.
  19. 2nd ball Flowers hit well tonight. Bradley had to make the play of his life to catch the other one.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) Phegley can't even catch the ball. The Sox need to respect the game and their fans more than running guys like Flowers and Phegley out there for two years in a row. The Sox are rebuilding. There will be some crappy players out there during a rebuild. It's unavoidable. Bringing AJ and his .636 OPS back during a rebuild would be patronizing the fans.
  21. If you really want to give yourself a headache, got to the comments section in mlbtraderumors and read how Starlin Castro should net elite top prospects.
  22. Well he is in just his 3rd year, he goes the other way, his K rate isn't awful, and his walk rate of 7%, while not high, isn't the worst and is better than several other Sox starters. And his arm is not only strong, but accurate. I don't think he's a lost cause. But he cuts at too many pitches that are too hard to hit - if he could relax on that, he'd trade a lot of outs for walks. Still a project, which may mean that good teams won't give a lot for him; but the Sox shouldn't cast him off eithre.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Neither. Started hot, cooled noticeably, now is roaring back again. Also worth noting, just before his current hot streak, he was benched a couple games due to an unspecified "mental lapse", per manager Joel Skinner. Probably nothing, but thought I'd add that. Presuming his D remains poor, any thought to switching positions to see if they can get something out of his hit tool?
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Jones is hurt, he'll be back. Noesi is a starting pitcher, Maurer is a RP which doesn't help with the depth issues at SP. Well, Noesi is a starter NOW. In 2011, 2013 and 14 he was used primarily in relief for Seattle. He started a lot in 2012, but unsuccessfully. Maurer was only recently moved to relief. He spent most of his time as starter in Seattle, albeit ineffectively. Noesi was marginally better (ERA in high 5s v. low 6s for Maurer). Now they are not the same pitcher, and if the Sox don't have a "We can fix him and turn him into a starter" feel about Maurer, we shouldn't bother with him. And of course we got NOesi for absolutely nothing, so there was no risk.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) You mean De Oca at 15th? Highly unlikely, he was looking for 7 figures, and it looks like he was the backup plan for Rodon. Choplick (32nd) is also an overslot candidate but not nearly as over, so depending on what Rodon signs for, we may get him. Yea, De Oca is who I meant. Thanks. So how do you view that Winston-Salem slot for Rodon?
