QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Who should it be? Lindstrom. As shaky as he is. Cleto is our best bullpen pitcher (or at least pitching the best) but we can use him in more leveraged situations, for more than 1 inning, etc.
  2. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) Who can we trade to get some bullpen help and while we are at it, we need another starter, Paulino is horrible. I'm thinking maybe we could get something for Beckham when he's healthy, I think Semien can handle second base. No Bad use of resources.
  3. The only dead weight, frankly, is Konerko. Some of the other guys (pitchers) are bad, but they are used and they play. Ventura has to force things to use Konerko, like he did today
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Paulino. It's time to take him out of the roation. No idea what YOU PEOPLE saw in him. Wasn't particularly good before, injured, and certainly not good now. Nieto is why you can have A level players on the roster. Scott Downs is 39. He's done, apparently. There's more but let's start with these three, particularly Paulino. It's Rienzo time. Nieto's on here because we don't want to lose him. He's a backup catcher anyway. Downs was a bad signing.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:00 AM) I think that got lost a bit in translation, with what Blake was trying to say. Guerra is not on the 40 man roster. He can be added, but I think Blake was trying to point out that if there are 40 guys on the 40, then someone has to come off and clear waivers to stay in the org. But, the 40 is at 39 right now. And Avisail will likely be transferred to the 60-day, which will drop it one more to 38. So it isn't an issue at present. I didn't understand how we were able to assign him without having to clear waivers.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) The Sox should take whoever they feel is the best player available regardless of position. Major league needs should never be a factor in the MLB draft. Thank you.
  7. I thought the Guerra claim was a steal, but North can you explain the point one of yall made about having to clear him through waivers to move him up? Thanks
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 12:51 AM) Injured. Half the players in the Peavy deal are currently hurt. Yikes. Badly injured?
  9. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/04/whit...-hernandez.html Former top 100 prospect. Not the worst guy to acquire for AAA I look forward to seeing Gorky at the park.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Excited for Jaye and Danish. If Jaye turns into a solid ML starter, that will be one of the greatest Sox trades of the last 20 years.
  11. Flowers is 4/4 - get him out of there Ventura for someone who shouldn't be on the roster!
  12. QUOTE (Kevtrem @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) So, Gillaspie batting third and Lindstrom closing games struck me at least somewhat surprising form yesterday. Granted I know its Opening Day and well probably see many lineups, but I can't help but to think about Hahn's impact here. Matt Davidson is the third basemen of the future (technically could be of the present as well), Hahn has made that quite clear. All the beat reports indicate that Nate Jones, Daniel Webb, and now even Maikel Cleto have the potential to be closers. Arbitration statuses of both Jones and Davidson clearly play a role, but I'm thinking more than that. I would say that most believe that Davidson will get significant playing time this year, and I subscribe to this thought process. I believe Gillaspie will be given every opportunity to succeed in the White Sox lineup by batting third, with Eaton getting on and Abreu as protection. I think Hahn is fluffing Gillaspie, if he is competent he should have at least 30-40 RBI by the deadling, in hopes of an overpay and vacating the third baseman duties. I see the same situation with Matt Lindstrom. We saw in the offseason, people overpay for saves. If Lindstrom succeeds in the closer role, his stock skyrockets and the Sox continue collecting young players at the deadline. It may be wishful thinking, but if the Sox do intend to trade Gillaspie and Lindstrom at their peaks of value (using generic stats), we could have another very productive deadline. Alexei and Beckham could be on the move with the middle infielder depth in the Sox system. Thoughts? I don't agree with all of these characterizations. Lindstrom actually had closer experience and, really, most of the rest of the pen has better jam-relieving stuff. You don't need to put your best reliever as closer. He was the logical choice to me. And a bonus is hopefully he can get fluffed up. Gillaspie's played for one year. There was no reason to give up on him. It's like the second there's scent of depth, we always have to move some guy. Davidson needs work on his defense and to reduce the Ks. No need to rush him. I think we'll move some players in July, but we don't need to do any lineup contrivances to achieve that.

  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) Keith Law has the Sox in fourth in the AL Central at 77-85. And he said we could beat .500 if things break right. That's the most optimistic prognostication I've ever read from Law.
  15. Good choice for closer. The rest of the pitchers are better suited to getting us out of jams. Lindstrom had closing experience and can handle clean innings. Good way to dress him up for a nice July trade.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) Or Heath. Or that lefty who gave up the bomb against Adrian Gonzalez in late 2012...can't remember his name now. Think he was injured last season. Or Purcey, although his stats were actually quite decent in an Ehren Wasserman type of way... Don't forget Troncoso.
  17. I see Omogrosso was released and the Sox have sold off a few organizational pitchers in the last week.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) They're not going to just dump or completely bench DeAza and Beckham. Hahn will wait until/unless he can get a reasonable return, if possible. As he should. This idea of giving players away, which would require a rush-job with Semien to accomplish, is daft.
  19. As of now, I'd go for his top 2 HS pitchers or the Vandy pitcher.
  20. Law's top 6 are pitchers, with Rodon now at 3 (stuff way down) and Hoffman at 6 (breaking ball not there).
  21. so did the Sox move Molina to the pen, or is his status that of an organizational minor leaguer at the tender age of 24.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 08:17 AM) The White Sox rotation is basically in place to win, if not now, at least in 2015. The White Sox can't afford to have the worst catcher in baseball again that season if they realistically hope to compete. Yes they can, if he handles the position defensively and we get quality production out of 2B, 3B and LF, which we haven't in a while. Anyway, if he hits 190 again, a marginal upgrade won't be hard to find....just no reason to use resources for a mediocre player at this point.
  23. Rasmus is basically De Aza with 7-10 more homers. I wouldn't load the truck for that. Ideally we'd like more power in LF anyway
