  1. Lack overall depth, lack pitching, and without major improvement, will be undermanned at C and LF.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Did you not watch any games pitched by Gavin Floyd or John Danks in the last 7 years? I said he frequently gave more in trade value than he got; I didn't say he didn't win any. FWIW, McCarthy has a lower WHIP and ERA than Danks.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) I think that's been the biggest problem of Theo and Hoyer with the Cubs. The only time they will make a move is when they feel they are fleecing the other team or getting a great deal. Occasionally, you have to throw a bone to other GMs...consider it an investment. People say "the Sox could have gotten more for Santiago" but, first of all, maybe they couldn't. Second of all, maybe the DBacks felt they could have gotten more out of Davidson too. It's certainly possible they had discussed that move previously and that was why the Sox threw in Brandon Jacobs too. The politics and networking of GMing, in my mind, is just as vital to being successful as acquiring the talent in the first place. You can't have one without the other. I think Theo is going to fail with the Cubs, even if their system is so good right now. Yea, I always thought that Kenny gave more than he got. The Swisher trade to Oakland had one prospect too many; should we really have had to throw in Holmberg to get Jackson who was being salary dumped? We gave Jackson to Toronto, which enabled them to get the CF they wanted. On the other hand, they were generous with us when we dumped Frasor back on them. So maybe they do this so that avenues for trades are always open. So far, I think all of Hahn's trades have been within a close range of fair value on both sides of the exchange...which is how it should be.
  4. I think you're onto something. Look at what Hahn said re the Bellisario signing: "He is a power arm with plus stuff who profiles well for our ballpark." http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/white-...p;vkey=news_cws
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) The Sox probably don't even have the requisite prospects, unless you want to give up, say, Erik Johnson, Marcus Semien, Adam Eaton, and Daniel Webb. That would be ridiculous. And honestly, he's only signed for 2 years, so now that I think about it, I wouldn't want the Sox to trade for him even if they priced him reasonably.
  6. I would support exploring a trade for him, if the Cubs priced him for what he is: a number 3 starter.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) No offense, but what team would trade for either of Viciedo/DeAza? I mean what team would be thinking either of those guys is attractive to make a deal for? De Aza's offensive numbers aren't bad.
  8. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) I want a catcher for the future, not just for this year. I think Lucroy is the best fit. Great contract, great power and avg, good for the next 3-5 years. What if we give them: Dunn (pay half his salary so $7 million sent) Carlos Sanchez 3B Prospect (Depth now with Davidson) Trayce Thompson OF Prospect (Depth now with Eaton) Tyler Flowers (replacement catcher) Jeff Keppinger (pay half his salary for next 2 years so $4 million sent) All for Lucroy. We eat some money but save some money, have a top 8 player at an important position, and clear some at bats for young developing players in the big leagues as well as upper minors. Could Milwaukee say no to this deal? They have nothing going on and this gives them a lot for now and later, as well as some trade chips in Dunn and Keppinger who could get them more prospects. They need a total rebuild there in Brewtown. It's an interesting idea, although I don't think they'd want all that junk. Perhaps we could bring a third team in - one that needs De Aza - and throw a legit prospect the Brewers way for him. De Aza is the only tradeable vet we have with any value. Still, I'd rather us still stockpile young players.
  9. I always liked Floyd. He has one beautiful curveball. Good luck to him.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) With the recent additions of Eaton and Davidson, does the change our outlook on the draft? Go after best pitcher available?Always go after the best player available, particularly when drafting high. If we're drafting for current ML team needs, we're doing it wrong.
  11. Grandal is off a bad injury and PEDs. No reason to pay top dollar for him. It's not really the time yet to ship out prospects anyway. We aren't ready to win yet
  12. I'll give 2 sleepers. Jared Mitchell - the only Sox player I actually saw play in college. He was near high school raw when drafted. Then he gets injured. Well it's only AFL, but it's a spark and he has talent. Were he a high school player, which I think he was close to in development when drafted, 5 years in the minors wouldn't hold such a red flag. Nieto - this guy is another one who started slow, was injured and has been recently improving. He's blocked by 2 catching prospects in Washington. If he doesn't stick, the Sox will try to work a trade. I'm in the minority, but loved this Rule 5 pick.
  13. I thought it was the Cubs who were going to trade for Sale. But no thanks to answer the question.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Compared to Nestor Molina, it's a great haul. That's if he can stick at 3B. As a 1B, he has something ranging from average to quasi-negligible value. As with Fields, Dayan and Teahen, they're going to try another offense-first player at the hot corner and see if he can hold his own. So who's next to go? DeAza? Gillaspie? Keppinger? We can only hope. But so far, it's not like Hahn has peddled junk. He's traded a closer and a starter. If he can turn De Aza or, lord knows how, Keppinger, into real baseball players, he's the best GM in baseball.
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) He also really liked the Adam Eaton trade. Despite what this board thinks, Keith Law does not have a vendetta against the White Sox. He just didn't like the White Sox philosophy under Kenny Williams of trading for need, rather than getting full market value. Hahn's philosophy is closer to his and the sabre types.
  16. ONe of the great things about what Hahn has done, is that he hasn't traded a single meaningful prospect. Let's keep that up...we need to build minor league depth. And we're going to need those minor league arms.
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) I don't like the strike outs, but maybe he'd straighten it out here. I wouldn't give up Alexei Ramirez for him though. Ha! When has that ever happened...about as often as a players's OBP improves coming into this organization. Middlebrooks is an over hyped Boston prospect. And considering he's about all they would give us for Peavy (or no-hit Iglesias), I doubt we could get him cheap anyway.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) I actually had him in mind when I kept hearing Lobaton and Jaso's name. I think he would be a great addition. I'd do Rienzo straight up for him. We can't waste a single prospect on stop gap veterans. If you want to move DeAza, fine. On a relative basis, we are getting less production out of 3B and LF than C anyway. A lot of teams have catchers that can't hit.
  19. If the Sox think that they can improve L Garcia's hitting to at least average SS level, they should send him to AAA and get him the at bats, so that he has a shot at replacing Alexei. In that case, Elmore, who doesn't look like anything other than a utility infielder, can have that spot. If the Sox don't think that L Garcia can be a ML regular, he can be the super sub and Elmore's out. L Garcia certainly can play all positions and has the best defensive range on the team.
  20. Sounds good to me, if he's cheap. I don't want the Sox wasting resources on some mediocre veteran..certainly not this year when we aren't winning anyway. Play Phegley and some new prospect. We pretty much know that Flowers can't be a ML starting catcher.
  21. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) To me the thing the sox have going for them with this core is that youth and real upside the sox struggle developing hitters(time will tell with Semien, Sanchez, Thompson, Johnson and Hawkins) from the ground up but their advance scouts have a real propensity for grabbing bats that need a fresh start after a major league trial (Quentin, De Aza, Gillaspie). At the end of the day do I think the sox will compete next year? no, but do they have the upside to be a dark horse and advance their time table significantly and maybe grab a wild card spot if they catch all the breaks? yes. At the very least it will be a lot of fun to see at the ball park and on tv. I don't think we have any chance of contending next primarily because of lack of pitching depth. But I do credit hahn with adding 3 quality hitters to this team. If he can do it again over the next year, then we might contend in 15. But we'll need a couple of pitchers too.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) I like the Nieto pick low risk high reward. I like it a lot. It's the biggest need position we have.
  23. Sluggers who are butchers in the field are not a priority. Don't need Dominic Brown Plus he's basically had 1 good months: otherwise he's Viciedo
