  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) Danks, Rios, Ramirez, Dunn, and Keppinger? Would be nice payroll relief. I'd like to see an infield the last 2 months of 1B Wilkins, 2B Gillaspie, SS Beckham, 3B Morel to see if anything is salvagable. Dunn, Rios and Ramirez will get claimed. I think teams are hoping we'll give them away for basically shared salary and a marginal prospect. Keppinger could get claimed; if we eat more salary and take an organizational minor leaguer it could stick. Which Danks? Both would be claimed. The younger is at minimum salary - someone will take a flier. We should keep him for this year anyway - better he than Wise. The Elder would have to be worked out like Rios et al.
  2. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) That's an organizational flaw that got us where we are today. That's not changing they bring in a strong manager with a lot of cred who believed differently to change the culture. (but they won't do that as long as Ken Williams is around). Ozzie Guillen agreed with the philosophy to a T, and Ventura is just happy to be here.
  3. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) De Aza would be #8 in OPS for all left fielders this year if that's where he was playing. He has a higher OPS than our current left fielder and our current right fielder (who presumably do have the offense to play those corners?). His WAR of .1 would tie him for 38th among LF and and 36th among CF. His D is bad. We should have moved him
  4. Peavy wasn't going to bring an elite prospect...at least not one that most teams think is elite. But the Sox love Garcia and value him higher than most other teams would....they overlook or hold lower value on things (like walking and not striking out) that other teams don't overlook. They probably could have gotten a prospect that had a higher consensus rating, although not elite.
  5. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) We are two bats and a couple of relievers away. CF De Aza 2B Beckham 3B Michael Young DH Dunn/Viciedo 1B Corey Hart RF Garcia LF Viciedo SS Ramirez C Phegley We can't put a defensive team like that on the field. Well win 60 games again. Maybe 70 as the offense is better. Phegly may be worse than flowers...0 walks and counting. YOung hitters, please.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Beckham, Dunn and Dayan werent getting traded. Lindstrom was borderline The other two are good chips and you want value for them that exceeds what they bring to the White Sox, or what they could bring even at the waiver deadline. Of course the value of this group in the field is about that of a 50-60 win team (the quality starting pitching bringing it up to a 70 win team, which I think we'd be if we had better coaching and more effort and things not snowballing as they have). We can't go into next year without some major upgrades in position players, to at least bring some guys who can play some D in here, if nothing else.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) This. Hopefully not in Granderson. +1 I'd like to see them trade to get some hitters in here.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) It's reading into an extremely short quote. From what I gather, he's not allowed to like it here. Oh yeah, bigtime clubhouse cancer. Awful person. Last year, funny how we werent reading into cryptic quotes when he was giving us 100 points higher OPS He lollygags it a lot. He's a decent player, but we need to change-over this roster. He's one of the few others who have value along with De Aza (whom people were also screaming to trade, despite decent numbers), and Alexei and Lindstrom. There is a reason people weren't screaming to trade Flowers and Veal...no one wants them. I think poor coaching is a big problem on this team (I know- this board loves the work of Ventura and Baines so I'm ducking) and I hope that an experienced professional staff is brought in here....at least someone who's been in the dugout recently.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) I haven't seen anything yet either. They sent down an OF when they called up Rienzo, so my guess is that they bring an OF back up to replace Peavy. Danks would be my guess. EDIT: Oh yeah, just saw the post above. If Wise is ready to come off the DL, then he's the one who will get that spot. Wise? That would be asinine to bring back a 35 year old with a career obp of .267. The Sox love of horrible veterans is part of the problem.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 18m Rios on not being moved at deadline: "I'm cool staying here. I like this place." yea, no pressure. do what he wants. Just how he likes it.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) I keep saying this, but Granderson being the CF for the Sox next year seems very possible to me. Hitters coming into their prime, please. Do we really want to sign up another LT deal with one of these guys in their 30s who's had injury issues and who is more likely to decline than to hold serve or improve? My suggestion would be to move a young pitcher for some young position talent. We can develop pitchers...the organization is woeful at developing hitters. Hahn did okay I guess. But he just moved our producers, and wasn't able to move the guys who were really eating payroll and needed to be moved.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) We desperately need a CFer so De Aza can be a very good left fielder. That would be huge. De Aza doesn't have the offense to play left. Yea, he's passable when we rebuild, but when your corners have no power, your deficient.
  13. Reed's a relief pitcher. If you can get a dynamic shortstop prospect for him, consider it. And the reality is that our farm is much more adept at developing pitchers than hitters. Deal from strength.
  14. Well it's now up to these coaches and to Garcia into turning him into an impact major league hitter. This coaching staff hasn't shown the ability to do that...so far.
  15. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) The whole Rangers organization retiring wouldn't make Dunn attractive to Texas. Phil Rogers just said on MLB TV that Adam Dunn would be very attractive to Texas. LOL
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) From what I read, anybody who appeals their suspension faces a punishment of double the original suspension length, so it might not make sense to appeal. NO it wouldn't. Dunn would be an upgrade for Texas. Dreaming, I know.
  17. We should be getting a break here with teams like Seattle, KC, Minny, Colorado, not being overt sellers and flooding the market. I hope we can get some moves made.
  18. The Nellie Cruz thing is tricky. He's a FA after this year, so he goes into free agency off of a 50 game suspension. Alternatively, he could appeal the suspension for this season, serve it next year, but he'll have no contract. If the Rangers like him, I would think they could extend him at a bargain and then tell him to appeal the suspension this year, essentially pushing their short term problem to next year.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Selling high, and the Sox are starting to produce some middle infielders--Micah Johnson and Marcus Semien are getting closer to legit prospects. Okay - if we do indeed sell high.
  20. Why would we trade Beckham? He's finally showing something offensively.
  21. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I think it had more to do with Brantley (lefty) pinch hitting, Bourn (lefty) on deck, Swisher in the hole (switch), Kipnis (lefty) after that and Cabrera (switch) after that. Okay, well last night, Nate Jones, who has pitched once in the last week and is clearly our 2nd to best reliever. doesn't come out to take the 8th inning. INstead, Ventura uses Lindstrom. What's the explanation for that? Now it could be Ventura being Ventura. But that decision seems so dense, that it might suggest a showcase (that didn't work).
  22. MLB network says Braves need backup infielder.....it's Keppinger Time!!!!!
  23. If he can hit some of those rope line drives that low LF wall should be to his liking. Frank used to hit those...heck he'd hit them with one hand (and no I'm not comparing him to Frank)
  24. Nate Jones is our 2nd to best relief pitcher. He has pitched once in the last week. Why wasn't he used in the 8th?
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) I would say he probably couldn't be much better than average and there is some chance that he is bad at SS. I'm okay with that, though, if it makes room for a good 2B. I'd just assume bring up Semien, really If we are bad at SS, it needs to be bad at hitting. They've got to be able to field. If we can fix the defense while we rebuild, we'll be respectable. Beckham's a good 2b...and 3B from what I saw a couple of years ago.
