  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Beckham moves to short. Anyone can play LF. Would he be a good defensive shortstop? We need that.
  2. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) How sad would that be? The Blue Jays dump him on us for nothing. The White Sox could potentially do the same. If I'm Pittsburgh, I am not doing that. That is wayyy too much money for their them to take on. If they want him at a much lower cost, they will make a deal with the Sox this afternoon. I'm calling it now, if the Sox don't trade him today, he will be with us the rest of the year and perhaps maybe even next year as well This can get messy as he will block any chance of Garcia being out there. We could pick some money up and take back a C prospect just to get rid of him. I would think we could get a B now, if we'd pick some money up and if, obviously, someone wanted Rios. Of course we could have done better yesterday if we'd been more flexible with the money. Hopefully the reason we weren't is so that we could be with Rios and Ramirez, but that's a hope, with nothing to base it on.
  3. Rios could be dumped through a waiver deal. But that's all it would be.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) Premature evaluation...? He at least deserves the next 2 months of observation before drawing ANY conclusions, and, even then...remember how we all felt based on 2012 that Tyler would be at least average/above-average defensively? Well, that didn't work out quite so well. Well it is premature. And we have to see if he can hit. But if he can, catchers have moved to other positions fairly often. And Flowers should be able to catch balls better than he has - he drank the same cool aid I guess that the rest of these defenders did. But in the meantime, we need catcher and CF who can at least field their position next year. We can be respectable even with spotty hitting. Our defense and bullpen turned us into terrible this year.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) WTF? You think he's a good catcher?
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) CF- De Aza C- Phegley A big problem this year has been poor up the middle defense It needs to change. Phegley probably needs to learn a new position
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) I have to think that was part of the logic in taking a lower return and sending Peavy's entire contract to Boston. Now there are more suitors to bid for Rios since the Sox can eat most of his contract. Hopefully they're willing to do that.
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:11 AM) More likely scenario next year..... A. Garcia-De Aza-Rios OF with Tank at first. B. Tank-De Aza-Garcia OF with a FA at first. C. Tank-Garcia-Rios OF with a FA at first. D Tank-De Aza-Rios OF with a FA at first and Garcia in AAA If Tank shows off some more power down the stretch I'd be fine with A. B. is what I think a lot of people are hoping for, but the latest reports make it seem like Rios will be here next year. C. Would be pretty interesting offensively, reports say Garcia can play an adequate CF, who leads off though? D. would make me a sad panda just because I wanna see Garcia in the big leagues next year. E. Tank - FA- Garcia OF with FA at first F. FA - FA - Garcia OF with Tank at first G De Aza - FA - Garcia OF with Tank at first
  9. This is where the Sox need to contribute some cash.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:58 PM) He will fit right in with our other minor league players. And major leaguers in that aspect. I can live with Ks, but he's got a really low walk rate. That never seems to bother the Sox though. Hahn said this 3rd team together today...when did the Sox last scout him?
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) South Side Sox ‏@SouthSideSox 1m Then there's this. / RT @based_ball: Avisail Garcia has Triple-A's ninth-highest swing rate, 18th-lowest contact rate (sample = 365 players) Expand Food for thought. What does that mean? He swings at everything and strikes out a lot?
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) Picks in top 15 are protected. Don't you lose your 2nd round pick? We need that too.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) Unfortunately Peavy got injured or maybe the Rangers would have went after him instead. Doubt it. AJ never/rarely caught Peavy. I didn't like the Cubs deal anyway. We didn't need a 5th starter or an Olt. That AA pitcher they got looks good though.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) I'd much rather have Garcia than Olt. +1000 Looks like an okay deal for us, great deal for Boston, terrible deal for Detroit. So terrible that, gosh, couldn't we have swung some Alexei their way?
  15. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:36 PM) Viciedo's on his usual progression. Starting to figure out RH pitchers and showing more patience after repeating a level. Still love the kids potential. He's hitting better. And walking some. Still a low rate, but not so low for this organization.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) Sounds like a guy that will probably shoot up the minors when/if he is converted to reliever Let's keep him as a starter and develop him properly.
  17. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Have the Sox ever lost 100? 1970 56-106 This team is probably worse in all phases except starting pitching.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) I'm not following your logic at all. 1. Moving Kennedy frees up the money to get Peavy 2. We weren't going to allow Kennedy to make up any part of the deal except a throw-in. 3. They knew he had value that is higher than zero. 4. They bring in Angels who will give them this greater than zero value. 5. Since it is a three-way trade, they are apparently going to send all or part of the haul from the Angels to us 6. We also get what we wanted in the first place (Owings, Davidson, Holmberg, whomever) The "haul" from the Angels will be B and C prospects. That's what Kennedy is worth. Also note that Angels farm is not strong. The haul from Arizona will be reduced by the value they lost because they lost Kennedy. Maybe they send us only 1 top prospect and the rest of the return will be from the Angels, but I'll believe it when I see it. Also note that we will be paying no money, which also would likely mean lesser prospects. This sounds like a Peavy for Homberg deal, but we'll see. I'd also like to see some movement on the Rios/Alexei front. We can't have another season with them and Keppinger and the rest.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) I think what we're seeing is that Kennedy can turn into some caliber of prospect(s) for the D'Backs so they don't want to just throw him into a deal for us when they can get actual value for him from someone else. In this case, they're going to turn that value into something we want (prospects) But he won't bring the value of prospects we want. And then Arizona is unlikely to send us the prospects we want, because their cost is reduced by the value of Kennedy. So this three way trade sounds like we'll get mediocre prospects from the Angels and Arizona.
  20. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) If a Peavy trade happens I wonder if Rienzo stays in the rotation, or is this a one time start? Why not? And give Axe a try-out for short relief. Who's our 8th inning guy these days?
  21. Way to move that runner over to 3rd, Keppinger.
  22. How does Rienzo's stuff look?
  23. They score 3 runs and have 1 hit out of the infield? And per yahoo, 2 runs score on a fielders choice?
  24. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) perfect time for STL getting swept. Still rather deal with Dbags (losing 2-0 already)... I'd prefer to deal with St Louis. Sox were too tight with Az and too many deals turned out unfavorable for us.
