  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) With Ian Kennedy going ahead with his start tonight, it lowers the chance of a Peavy trade to the D'backs in my opinion. I don't know. It's not like the Angels (or whomever) need his starts particularly, versus, say, our trade partner needing all the Peavy starts they can get.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) John Perrotto @jperrotto Am told only way #Pirates part with Taillon is in deal for Peavy, Ramirez and #WhiteSox also putting in plenty of cash. 6:29pm · 30 Jul 13 · web That dude from earlier. Then do it. Taillon is a top 20 prospect. I never figured Peavy to land one of those.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I would be shocked but not upset. Hahn will have at least established himself as a guy who sticks to his guns. That only matters if sticking to your guns brings good trade results. On its own, it means nothing.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) This is why you follow legitimate sources... Who would those be? The bogus tweests and the fan tweets have been as accurate as the Rosenthals and Olneys. Rosenthal has been particularly poor.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) He's not likely to be all that much better than Gillaspie unless the Sox can find a way to help him control the strikeouts. They don't have a good record fo this. +1
  6. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) Why does that matter if there is a chance he might not get traded? Is that our doing or the potential suitor? If he pitches, the buyer will likely get once less start out of him. This his value will be lower. We certainly get no real value out of Peavy pitching.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) Despite interest from the Red Sox, A's, D'Backs, and Cardinals, the sense is the White Sox are coming down on their asking price for Peavy, tweets Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com. Of course we don't know what the asking price really was. If it was a Garz package, this isn't good. If it was 2 elite prospects, they could be coming down to something both can work with.
  8. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) It was his first start back and Maholm is coming back soon. Would be a overreaction to bench him at this point, considering the haul Hahn wants for Peavy. Both are undependable. And the Braves aren't that strong at the top of their rotation either. Peavy fits their park. Oakland and St Louis both have stronger staffs. And the price isn't that outrageous...sounds like 1 top 50 and a couple of other good prospects.
  9. I'm surprised Atlanta hasn't checked back in. Beachy was awful last night. Maybe they think they have their division locked up and their top 3 are good enough.
  10. On a side note, this Pirates TV announcer is almost as obnoxious as Hawk.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) That makes too much sense. Why can't the Sox in the past ever pull off deals like that? They have no risk in this scenario. Get Peavy for almost free this year, dump him in the offseason to a big-money team. Pretty brilliant. Hopefully he doesn't pull it off.
  12. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) I hope some WSI mods are reading and know that they have a HUGE factor in the amount of readers in this thread. WSI website has been down for the last day.

  14. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) I am not sure what the fascination with Holmberg is around here. Is it because he was a former Sox farmhand? People like names they know I guess. His 6.2 K/9 in AA doesn't really excite me. agree Low Ceiling
  15. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Eaton, Owings Holmberg Davidson in that order Holmberg would be a disappointing centerpiece.
  16. I noticed last night that Lindstrom pitched to one batter. Ventura has never used him purely as a situational righty before. Perhaps showcasing him a little....his splits are still strong against right handed hitters.
  17. Yea, Kubel could help even out the money and that might work if we dump Rios. The Sox certainly have been willing to add overpaid veterans in the past. But Phil acts like he's a centerpiece.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Move Gillaspie to first. Yikes
  19. They're tweeting now that Peavy, Rios and Alexei all go to Pirates. "They" are unreliable tweeters. But heck, who is reliable? Certainly not Ken Rosenthal
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) https://twitter.com/ChiTribRogers/status/362276040808202240 No, Phil. Go away. Kubel? LOL LOL
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) Supposedly Oakland's plan if they got Peavy, was to trade him this winter. So Beane probably offered less than they could get for him this winter, hoping to rent him for free, and perhaps a little profit, the last 2/3 months.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) I dont get why people are just errantly hoping for a trade You have to hear what the trade is and then decide if you like it or not. Certainly I don't want anymore giveaways like we did with Jackson. But I think Hahn, assuming he's given free reign, should be skilled enough to get offers at least equal to what the Cubs got. And we should take one of those offers. Plus, this "We can build around Peavy" stuff, while likely just GM-speak, is still just, well, too absurd to be believed.
  23. They covet Sale and Bud Norris? That's like coveting a Mercedes and a Malibu.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) Yes, if Peavy (or somebody else) isn't traded before gametime, they would have to send somebody down in order to make room for Rienzo. Troncoso is an obvious candidate. I'd like to see Axe get some good relief work. He pitches with a lot of heart and guts.
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:44 AM) Keith Law speculated on BBTN that if he doesn't pitch or hardly pitches, we'll get 25K or something just to make it technically a trade with the commissioner's office That means that Tampa absorbs zero of the risk that he can't return from the DL. Thus, if gets healthy and pitches , we should get closer to the package of players we would have gotten were he not on the DL.
