  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) Unfortunately Peavy got injured or maybe the Rangers would have went after him instead. Doubt it. AJ never/rarely caught Peavy. I didn't like the Cubs deal anyway. We didn't need a 5th starter or an Olt. That AA pitcher they got looks good though.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) I'd much rather have Garcia than Olt. +1000 Looks like an okay deal for us, great deal for Boston, terrible deal for Detroit. So terrible that, gosh, couldn't we have swung some Alexei their way?
  3. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:36 PM) Viciedo's on his usual progression. Starting to figure out RH pitchers and showing more patience after repeating a level. Still love the kids potential. He's hitting better. And walking some. Still a low rate, but not so low for this organization.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) Sounds like a guy that will probably shoot up the minors when/if he is converted to reliever Let's keep him as a starter and develop him properly.
  5. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Have the Sox ever lost 100? 1970 56-106 This team is probably worse in all phases except starting pitching.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) I'm not following your logic at all. 1. Moving Kennedy frees up the money to get Peavy 2. We weren't going to allow Kennedy to make up any part of the deal except a throw-in. 3. They knew he had value that is higher than zero. 4. They bring in Angels who will give them this greater than zero value. 5. Since it is a three-way trade, they are apparently going to send all or part of the haul from the Angels to us 6. We also get what we wanted in the first place (Owings, Davidson, Holmberg, whomever) The "haul" from the Angels will be B and C prospects. That's what Kennedy is worth. Also note that Angels farm is not strong. The haul from Arizona will be reduced by the value they lost because they lost Kennedy. Maybe they send us only 1 top prospect and the rest of the return will be from the Angels, but I'll believe it when I see it. Also note that we will be paying no money, which also would likely mean lesser prospects. This sounds like a Peavy for Homberg deal, but we'll see. I'd also like to see some movement on the Rios/Alexei front. We can't have another season with them and Keppinger and the rest.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) I think what we're seeing is that Kennedy can turn into some caliber of prospect(s) for the D'Backs so they don't want to just throw him into a deal for us when they can get actual value for him from someone else. In this case, they're going to turn that value into something we want (prospects) But he won't bring the value of prospects we want. And then Arizona is unlikely to send us the prospects we want, because their cost is reduced by the value of Kennedy. So this three way trade sounds like we'll get mediocre prospects from the Angels and Arizona.
  8. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) If a Peavy trade happens I wonder if Rienzo stays in the rotation, or is this a one time start? Why not? And give Axe a try-out for short relief. Who's our 8th inning guy these days?
  9. Way to move that runner over to 3rd, Keppinger.
  10. How does Rienzo's stuff look?
  11. They score 3 runs and have 1 hit out of the infield? And per yahoo, 2 runs score on a fielders choice?
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) perfect time for STL getting swept. Still rather deal with Dbags (losing 2-0 already)... I'd prefer to deal with St Louis. Sox were too tight with Az and too many deals turned out unfavorable for us.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) With Ian Kennedy going ahead with his start tonight, it lowers the chance of a Peavy trade to the D'backs in my opinion. I don't know. It's not like the Angels (or whomever) need his starts particularly, versus, say, our trade partner needing all the Peavy starts they can get.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) John Perrotto @jperrotto Am told only way #Pirates part with Taillon is in deal for Peavy, Ramirez and #WhiteSox also putting in plenty of cash. 6:29pm · 30 Jul 13 · web That dude from earlier. Then do it. Taillon is a top 20 prospect. I never figured Peavy to land one of those.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I would be shocked but not upset. Hahn will have at least established himself as a guy who sticks to his guns. That only matters if sticking to your guns brings good trade results. On its own, it means nothing.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) This is why you follow legitimate sources... Who would those be? The bogus tweests and the fan tweets have been as accurate as the Rosenthals and Olneys. Rosenthal has been particularly poor.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) He's not likely to be all that much better than Gillaspie unless the Sox can find a way to help him control the strikeouts. They don't have a good record fo this. +1
  18. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) Why does that matter if there is a chance he might not get traded? Is that our doing or the potential suitor? If he pitches, the buyer will likely get once less start out of him. This his value will be lower. We certainly get no real value out of Peavy pitching.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) Despite interest from the Red Sox, A's, D'Backs, and Cardinals, the sense is the White Sox are coming down on their asking price for Peavy, tweets Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com. Of course we don't know what the asking price really was. If it was a Garz package, this isn't good. If it was 2 elite prospects, they could be coming down to something both can work with.
  20. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) It was his first start back and Maholm is coming back soon. Would be a overreaction to bench him at this point, considering the haul Hahn wants for Peavy. Both are undependable. And the Braves aren't that strong at the top of their rotation either. Peavy fits their park. Oakland and St Louis both have stronger staffs. And the price isn't that outrageous...sounds like 1 top 50 and a couple of other good prospects.
  21. I'm surprised Atlanta hasn't checked back in. Beachy was awful last night. Maybe they think they have their division locked up and their top 3 are good enough.
  22. On a side note, this Pirates TV announcer is almost as obnoxious as Hawk.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) That makes too much sense. Why can't the Sox in the past ever pull off deals like that? They have no risk in this scenario. Get Peavy for almost free this year, dump him in the offseason to a big-money team. Pretty brilliant. Hopefully he doesn't pull it off.
  24. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) I hope some WSI mods are reading and know that they have a HUGE factor in the amount of readers in this thread. WSI website has been down for the last day.
