Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
GreenSox replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the Pirates offer. Hell, we can throw in Rios too. I'd like to get St Louis' back up first baseman. He'll never start for them, but we could use him in the meantime. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) If you make the Peavy move happen, other dominoes have time to fall. Okay. I guess that could be. If we get deal him, say, without paying much salary, we can then offer money to get Rios and Dunn out of town. -
Does anybody think The Plan is to be this left-handed in 2014?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Yea this is what I was getting at, thanks for continuing the conversation. I truly believe they don't like it either so we probably have a major trade coming before next season. So maybe the plan is to flip Peavy for MLB-ready RHSP. I'd love that. I think there very well may be a major trade of one of these guys and/or Reed before next season. They are going to have to do something to fix the rest of the team, and that will probably means some trades. Should get 2 above average position players for one of these pitchers. Hopefully we'll go for players who haven't reached their prime, which would be a refreshing change. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) The Sox ought to go into tomorrow with every intention of starting him unless someone meets their price. Having him set as the starter should be the motivation to get a deal done before the outing. Why do we care if the deal is done Tuesday? The drop-dead deadline is Wednesday anyway. What we care about is getting the most out of him we can, not dealing him by Tuesday. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) Since Peavy is scheduled to start tomorrow, teams acquiring him should be motivated to make a deal before then. They could get an extra start out of him this season. The Sox shouldn't start him tomorrow. It doesn't matter to us if we trade him Tue or Wed. By starting him, his value is decreased as teams will get 1 less start out of him (or 4/5 less of a start). He's had sufficient post-injury auditions. We don't need to cut our own throat. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) if Rick is able to land Xander, Bundy, Russel, or any two of (Martinez, Wong, Wacha, Adams from the Cards). i think everyone on this board would be ecstatic I would be. I'd be happy with 1 top 50 prospect. I didn't figure him to land a top 50 prospect for Peavy. I'd even take the Baltimore prospect if the meds check out. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) Kevin Gregg just pitched three days in a row. I guess the Sox aren't the only organization that lets trade bait actually take the mound before the trade deadline. Just as an aside, I want to meet the team that says to itself "What our bullpen needs in the playoffs is Kevin Gregg".

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) It would be great if Pittsburgh could win the first 3 games in this series with STL starting tomorrow. Maybe make Mozeliak feel a little heat and give up more than he wants. Whoa...don't forget, we've got to get Rios out of here too. Don't need the Pirates scoring too many runs. -

There is no way we're getting Hanson for a stiff like Rios. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Peter Gammons @pgammo 2h If what GMs say the pricetags on Peavy, Norris, Lee and Santana hold, Wednesday is going to be very quiet. Could be waiting a while Generally, selling teams cave on their demands or before the 31st because something is better than nothing.. But we won't because we don't have to trade any of these guys except for Lindstrom, and he won't bring anything anyway. And I think teams know that and one will cave on the 31st...at least I hope so. IN particular, St Louis has to cave for Alexei...they have to do something to upgrade that position.
-
I'm tired of waiting too. But a week from now, I'll be going through twitter/mlbtraderumors/etc. withdrawal and will miss trading season.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) Hello C prospect! At best. His WHIP is over 1.4 He's been pretty good against righties though. Bad against lefties.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Keep in mind Peavy pitched 2 games with a broken rib and was hit hard. His ERA for his other starts is right about 3.00 and that is pitching with a terrible defense. I thin Sox fans are really underestimating how good he has actually been this year and last. Our debate was actually on Quintana. Now I do think that Peavy is a top of the rotation starter and would help every contender. Whether they're willing to pay is the question. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) In the AL, the Red Sox, Orioles, Rays. He'd be the #3 starter on the Rangers and Tigers when you factor in the ballpark effect in detroit. So basically, all of them. The deal is the same in the NL except you have to adjust for leagues also. I'd say: He's number 1 on none, except maybe Boston, who's a mess. If we sell low to them, I'll be pissed. He's a marginal 2/3 on Baltimore. A 3 on Tampa, Detroit and Texas. He's a 3-5 on Oakland He's probably a 2 on Atlanta, due to Hudson. Another team we shouldn't sell low to. Peavy fits their park, too. He's a 3 on St Louis. He's a 4/5 on Cincy A 2 on the Dodgers A 3-5 on Pittsburgh. Very good pitcher. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Our current CF had 2.7 WAR last year and would be doing the same this year had he not forgotten how to catch fly balls earlier this season Indeed. But he did forget. And his overall coverage in CF hasn't been stellar either. -

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) thats what I'm saying Alexei is the only short stop on the market and the opitions are thin going into the offseason. He is due 2.6 remaing for this season, 9.5 next year 10 the following and 10 if you want him in '16 or a 1mil buy out, He will provide surplus value during the length of his deal. Adams strikes me as a cross between Adam LaRoche and Josh Willingham type of player(2WAR to career year 3.5WAR) The sox need someone at first base, and as you said Adams is just there back up hes not a great fielder and he isn't going to LF any time soon down in St. Louis so it makes sense to trade him. bottom line StL is trying to win a world series and needs someone to plug the gapping hole at SS its a sellers market and they match upnwell with the sox, They're going to have to pay a premium. Adams and two middle relief prospects seems fair. I agree with you. I'd just do an Adams-Alexi flop, although I think we need a 3 WAR Center Fielder more. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) With the stuff Quintana had last year, maybe. With the stuff he has this year? lolz. On which playoff team is Quintana a top 2 starter? Santiago is the one with the chance to become a top of the rotation starter. Anyway, I wouldn't deal either nor Sale, barring an offer of the moon. Those 3 as the core of a rotation is what will prevent this from being a 5 year rebuilding project. The first step should be rebuilding the up the middle defense. That starts with a defensive catcher (we can live with bad offense at that position.) and someone to play CF (that position needs to be able to hit). -

Quintana is a mid-bottom rotation guy. Not a key cog to a contender in the stretch run. Probably get more for him in the offseason. -
Leave him in the minors. We don't need to rush anyone for this sorry season.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) MLBInsidersLive says Cardinals willing 2 offer Adams,Butler,Blazek to WhiteSox 4 Peavy,Ramirez. You have to make the Cardinals pay more than that. Butler and Blazek are C prospects; Adams is their backup 1B and figures to stay there. WE could use Adams, but not for this trade. I agree with the above comment - do that for Alexei and Lindstrom. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) Chris Sale: Cy Young caliber pitcher Jake Peavy: Most sought after pitcher in market Jose Quintana: 5-3 with a 3.55 ERA. He was in A-Ball two years ago. Double-A last year. Hector Santiago: 3.38 ERA despite us jerking him around. A-Ball three years ago. .221 BAA I don't see anything exceptional in that list, far beyond what many other pitching coaches have accomplished. Sale - he's great. Peavy is the most sought after pitcher on the market because the next best pitcher on the market is Bud Norris. He did his best pitching before he got here. But yes he's been good when healthy. Quintana pitched pretty well with the Yankees but they left him off their 40 man and we signed him. He's been good. Santiago - he's good. Lot of pitchers are good. I think he has a chance to be really good - we'll see how that goes. And who exactly is the "we" who has been jerking him around?????? Ahem. His biggest claim to fame is Matt Thornton. A bad pitcher he turned into a good one - great for a while. Then I'd say Floyd next. I have no complaints with Cooper. He's a good coach. He has a great reputation in baseball. He can be the pitching coach here for as long as he wants if it were up to me. But a genius.?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) Why is Coop still considered a genius? Good question.

Finally a suggestion from an intelligent Boston Blogger. Red Sox Would Receive: SP Jake Peavy White Sox Would Receive: P Anthony Ranaudo, 3B Garin Cecchini, C Christian Vazquez. http://www.overthemonster.com/2013/7/25/45...-for-jake-peavy -
It's not the innings with Ventura. It's the number of days in a row he uses these relief pitchers. I'd like to seem him use Crain and Reed for over 1 inning more often...and earlier than the 8th and 9th. Anyway, the Sox probably can craft a conditional trade for Crain...probably should. No use keeping him.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) Lol. But "Robin" has been doing this all season and still has a job. So what gives lol? It blows my mind that people still think Robin is solely in control of Chris Sale's arm. Unbelievable the stuff you read on here sometimes. You're right - he's a brilliant manager. Stellar work at the end of last year and this season. His presence on this team is yet another example of why the Sox need to stop hiring house horses for the dugout.
