  1. Yea looks like 6-10 were punted, although I'm sure they needed to. Maybe they'll pick overslot guys on day 3. Edit; meant to say NOT sure they needed to, as they didn't draft any obvious overslot guys.
  2. The last 2 are pretty good picks for punts.
  3. Callis said that they messed with Sprinkle's swing and approach this year. Sox should be able to fix that. He's already at a Leury floor.
  4. Yea small market Cardinals and Padres each have multiple players under 9 figure contracts. The system is grand.
  5. Pallette is a 4 year college player; should be underslot, if anything. Schultz could be overslot; but reaching for an overslot player doesn't seem like the best approach. So, I'm thinking (hoping?) that he's slot. Oh, they'll punt. I just hope they don't do so as obnoxiously (5 rounds of 10K players) as they have recently.
  6. They'll probably make a silly trade with the Cubs; young for old and average. Something like the KImbrel trade: Crochet and an interesting prospect for Happ. Hahn might throw in Burger, too. Doesn't require much energy and ya gotta pay for Happ's career year.
  7. I can think of 4 starters this century that the Sox have developed pillar to post. There have been a handful of temporary 5th-starter types (one of whom is starting for the Pirates) but not many legitimate starters. On the other hand, there have been many that they grabbed from other teams while still in the minors who have turned out well (I can think of 5 currently in the majors and then several prior). Anyway, I hope the development program is up to the challenge. On edit, my count is up to 6 starters developed pillar to post this century, 4 of whom are still in the majors. One was a high-school draftee.
  8. The Nats won't get near what the writers suggest, unless a team has agreed to an extension with him. Without that, he's still a 2-playoff season rent. Sensible teams just don't push all their chips in for 2 seasons (or even more) of hope. And even with an extension, I think the packages will turn out a big lighter; yea the Nats can hold him until December, but the return will be adjusted considerably, so they don't have that much leverage.
  9. He should require that the Sox write into the contract that they WON'T do that.
  10. And non-draft stuff. Be that as it may, MLB, Law, Fangraphs - not in the top 40. Mono shouldn't drop anyone; it's not like surgery.
  11. Reached for a player who's going to be hard to sign. Maybe they just didn't like this class and are going to punt the pick to next year. Everyone seems to like the pick though; I guess high risk/high reward.
  12. Only if a rental and cheap. Long term planning when buying at the deadline is counterproductive. Buying now usually means paying a premium for career years, trading young for old, instead of retooling.
  13. Of course Preller spent a lot of time in the weeds (v. Sox GM who, well, didn't). I always like listening to the late rounds of the draft; remarkable how fast it goes. A pick every 20 seconds or so.
  14. This is what I don't understand. In the NFL and NBA, the GM makes the draft pick (based on work by scouts, et al). The implication here is that the scouting director makes the pick. Seems weird. Anyway, the Sox drafted a pure reliever and a likely reliever under Hostetler (although some attribute Fulmer to Lauman) and a likely reliever under Shirley.
  15. Cueto: A+ Leury: D Graveman A- Harrison D+ VV: D McGuire: D+ Pollock: F Kelly: C- (turning it around) Haseley: D-
  16. Hjerpe has a goofy delivery and back end of rotation upside. Even with the Sox willingness to draft first-round relievers, it wouldn't make much sense.
  17. I hear ya. They could also DH Grandal, and IL Eloy and get him fully healthy. Could use the LH stick.
  18. Sounds good to me (the underslot, not the catcher). A lot of college pitchers seem to be on basically the same level.
  19. No objection here. But that's just really unlikely. Not the MO of the FO. Zeb did a nice frame job to end game 4 in Cleveland.
  20. There’s no reason at all for Hahn to be messing with our best prospects. That’s just lazy. The second Montgomery gets out of this organization he’ll be at top 20; Not because of some superior development plan, but because the White Sox do not hype their prospects, whether by choice, or whether they just simply don’t know what they have.
  21. He's a legitimate major league catcher who has played well. It would be ridiculous to cut a good player (again). They could probably get some lotto prospect for McGuire if they tried.
  22. 2017 3rd round draft pick Luis Gonzalez also back for the Giants. 0-4. Just saw Caulfield's post - didn't realized that he pitched as well.
