  1. The only trouble with this move is that the Sox are stuck with this guy for next year. Hahn just loves his aging relievers. Pen is where you can save some budget and turn failed starter prospects into relievers at minimum salary. Is the title correct that the CHW are throwing in extra $ for this?
  2. Using fangraphs' ratings, and aside from the reliever side of this deal, it would be like trading Sosa for Quintana. The Cards farm was evaluated in July and the Sox in April.
  3. This effing team. What you see is what you get.
  4. yes - he had a career first half, and now it's likely to revert to the mean. I look at his career. He's average. He's hyped, always has been, but he's a 1-2 WAR player.
  5. When I think impactful, I think of your guy in Pitt (and I know prob not enough). I fear buying high on Happ, who had 2 walks and 1 homer in July and whose numbers have started to recede to his usual average self.
  6. 4 of these guys are in our top 10 or so and one just hit Law's top 100. Better be for a lot more than a middle reliever. The 40 man still has filler, as well as Sheets and Burger who should be higher priorities (and with fit for the players the Sox are likely targeting).
  7. Good for the Brewers. This is how you keep windows open. They're looking at their 5th straight playoff appearances.
  8. https://meadowparty.com/blog/ Just search for Montgomery. It's on the first page. He made 2 comments; the dismissive one and then a positive evaluation. Beyond this love, our farm is really getting better. Shirley knows what he’s doing and Paddy always has. I think the Charlotte dog-and-pony-show obscures it.
  9. Good for Sheets. Can't be easy playing out of position. I'm all for letting the young guy hit, especially with this state of the team.
  10. BoSox got a real bargain on Sale, judging by this return.
  11. Haber's the second one out the door; then throw out the rest of Hahn's buddies. KW retiring would help. Real retooling = trading Abreu. Beyond that, can't they find a team with their own Burger/Sheets that play OF they can swap them for?
  12. All FoH must go. Keep Paddy and I'm sure others in various spots.
  13. One thing they need to do to make it a little easier is to trade Abreu. Yea, let him know ahead of time, but move him. I don't give a rip about his "leadership" - not sure how great it's been anyway, and the young players may breath easier with papa gone. Call the Brewers, Rays, etc. A week ago, it could also have been the top 3 relievers, but they have turned to dust all of a sudden.
  14. I guess we can wait for new front office to fire Haber, Getz, Hostetler and Shirley (nothing against Shirley, but he'll be a casualty).
  15. All trade inquiries should be halted. It's all lipstick on an old sow. Tonight was a disgrace. The worst thing they could do is trade for a 2-year player that will cost real prospects. The next worse thing is to waste 2nd tier prospects to rent more old guys.
  16. Yea, he isn't going to vax for these scrubs, but when there's a good chance to win, sure thing.
  17. Very difficult in July with the premium prices, yes. But, as I've posted before, we sold 2 late-inning relievers for 1 Rule 5 guy each, so perhaps that's a possibility. This is kind of a circular point, but if the front office actually knew which prospects had ceiling and which didn't, that would help. But it's hard to have confidence that they do - if they were that good with prospects, the farm probably wouldn't be at a deficit. But they seem to be getting better. To that end, while trading for Kimbrel was dumb (we didn't need him) trading Madrigal, a known quantity with limited ceiling, was smart. Should have saved Madrigal for a good player that we really needed.
  18. Yes, as are 90% of them. That's the nut of it. For us to give equivalent talent (or more, as some suggest is necessary), would severely hurt the farm. We'd likely have to give top 10s. But I look at opportunity cost when evaluating these trades. And to give top 10s is just way too high from the Sox perspective, considering the wins added (a couple).
  19. Yankees gave their 18th, 24th and non top-40 prospects for Benintendi (fangraphs, 1/22). None top 20 per Law. If the Sox, can give the 18th, 24th and an unrated prospect for Happ, that would be fine.
  20. Kelly was a "buy high" off of a career year in the first place. He's been a very average pitcher, at best, during his career.
  21. Wasn’t it always realistic? Take his salary, he’s yours.
  22. Is Simas Billy Bob's son?
  23. Guardians If the Sox had the Guardians' front office, we'd be the Astros/Braves etc.
