  1. The Sox don't have near enough top prospects or top young players to trade one like Vaughn for a piece to plug a hole. That narrows the window and will cause far more harm than anything gained from plugging a hole. If traded, it should be for a similarly situated young player.
  2. Well Montas and is scheduled to pitch tomorrow, so at least give it another game to see if he sucks this year.
  3. That would be terrible too. Not Vaughn level terrible, but terrible. Find another pitcher. Why trade with the As? That's just lazy. The Sox willingly went into the season with the staff as is. They have a couple of injuries, which will keep 2 pitchers out for 1 month. Why make a desperation trade for 1 month?
  4. With the expanded rosters, we sort of can. Tony won't call them "openers" but we could use openers.
  5. I don't think Hahn has ever done a deal with the As without getting fleeced; and the As may not want to change precedent and do a deal without fleecing him, so I'll take a pass. But if they are serious about Montas, please scout a few of his starts first.
  6. Or because his production has been mediocre, outside of 2019. I really like his D though. Don't care about his personality.
  7. I'd rather Burger prove he's the real deal, and trade Moncada in the offseason, get a couple of decent prospects and clear a lot of payroll so that we can make this team better.
  8. 1. Chicago 2. Kansas City 3. Detroit 4. Cleveland 5. Minnesota
  9. Yea, I forgot about that. Anyway, substitute Mendick for one of the relievers. Moot, though as per a comment above, the roster has been set.
  10. Well the Sox can give themselves some time with the expanded rosters. Mendick, e.g. isn't exactly a "must have" for the first week.
  11. at the moment. The proposal is not a bad trade; it's just frustrating to be in this position.
  12. Trade Sheets and we're short a LH hitter. Fill one hole (and neither Weathers or Paddack are certainties) and create another. Hosmer has negative value. It's just so late for all of this.
  13. Keller has a WHIP in excess of 1.7 in 170 innings. That's about what touted prospect Gavin Floyd looked like with the Phils (in fewer innings). Kenny Williams didn't send an Andrew Vaughn for him. Comparing Keller's resuls to Vaughn's first season is ridiculous.
  14. Vaughn has a more ascertainable value than Burger and esp. Sheets. Extracting that value in a trade is difficult, however. Montas sure isn't it.
  15. Why not? Plenty of pitchers come back to start, and do it well. They can build the innings up post-surgery.
  16. Hopefully they groom him for the rotation, post recovery.
  17. He's an average pitcher, and the price will be steep. The Sox may have to make a trade for a SP while the market favors sellers, but they don't have to do it now, and they don't have to do it with the As. So wait.
  18. No team trades a prospect for an org guy. Well, almost no team. They're available for cash considerations. It needs to be a heck of a pinch for him to be on the major league roster.
  19. Then find another org. outfielder. They're a dime a dozen.
  20. One org guy deserves another. If the Sox gave anything more than an org guy or cash, they really should seek mental help
  21. Agree. I just don't get the desire to tie the Sox up long-term with a slightly above average player (who had a well below average year last year). Just a repeat of another failed practice.
  22. I'm high on Sheets, Vaughn and Engel.
