  1. But why does he have to clear waivers if he doesn't make the 26? He can't just sit on the 40 man?
  2. What makes Micker eligible for that? Sox pulled Yermin and a starting catcher out of this so I'm interested in seeing what happens.
  3. The Sale trade is still pending Kopech - if he's not a #2, then the Sox really got the short end of this one. Sale was an elite pitcher on a muti-year contract with favorable terms. It would have been nice for Hahn to have found his direction prior to selling away Tatis, Semien, and 40% of the As rotation for pennies on the dollar and also squandering the #26 pick in the draft.
  4. I would think that Rick Hahn thinks he's worth substantially greater than $16 million in the market. That would explain picking up the option for the purpose of trading him.
  5. The trade was well-intended: 2b was a need and he was playing well and the price wasn't exorbitant. Kimbrel trade was much worse.
  6. That's certainly true in general. Most of the trades and many signings prove that. But Leury can play SS and CF (and 2b, 3b, LF and RF). Shouldn't need any other utility players on this roster.
  7. This is hardly the first time for this FO giving away young players for dimes on the dollar. And never for a compelling reason or high upside.
  8. List of teams that have the #30 farm system......
  9. Kimbrel for Zach Eflin. Kimbrel for Segura would be a lazy move and a major fail. If they trade Vaughn (or Crochet or Sheets) they better get a young player; these self-serving trades take their toll.
  10. There's no guarantee to anything. Heck winning the division is no cinch. You certainly can't count on the rest of the division playing .500 or less next season. Having a fresh staff probably gives you the best chance. But the Sox need a couple of pitchers to get to that.. And there were some reasonably priced guys out there, and apparently they weren't interested. We hear trades - well this ace FO has the #30 Farm, so the marginal cost of trades is sky high.
  11. No interest in Cobb? Seems about what the Sox need. Of course it takes more work to deal with agents than for the FO with the #30 farm to make a trade.
  12. If the FO misjudged the market this badly, it means that, not, they did not work hard, because they didn't get the work in up-front. They cut corners and skimp enough as it is (international market; pro-scouting), they have farm #30, and now they completely mess up the FA market?
  13. Because it works. Despite all of his gaffes over the years, most fans still think he's an effective GM and are fans of Hahn.
  14. He's got a pretty good ground ball rate; he's been a 2-3 WAR pitcher, except for 2020. Doesn't seem that objectionable to me.
  15. Conforto had a .8 WAR last year. Sheets ripped RH pitching. Don't have enough young talent to spare for these trades for players with 1 or 2 years left on their contracts (especially with the As). Use free agency, please.
  16. Screw FAs. Let's rebuild the As again for a 1 year rent. Whoopee!
  17. Yes, he didn't say the Sox were seeking Robbie Ray or Marcus Semien. Just players like Marcus Semien and Robbie Ray. Wide open board.
  18. Kiermeier just cannot hit a lick. Now I assume he can be had basically be free for picking up his contract, but still. If Engel could stay health, they have the D covered with someone who can hit.
  19. Kimbrel for Segura would be a clear FO fail. Lazy, bad planning, bad judgement, just everything.
  20. That's the on-the-cheap approach. And with the #30 farm system, they will either have to trade off of the ML roster, or give 2x the number of prospects as they are currently at their low value. Maybe he can finesse Kimbrel into a starter, but I'm not holding my breath.
  21. Yea, it's a tough call. I like Jon Gray, assuming he's cheaper than the above. I think he'd do well with the Sox. Maybe also McHugh, who can spot start. Our starters wore down; need to keep them fresh. But I'm the oddball in my opinions. I see 2B and pitching as bigger priorities than RF and DH. The Sox can hit; that's where most of the injuries were last year, so it didn't show. Sheets had a great start to his career; he may be the lefty everyone is looking for.
