  1. In no way should Thorpe be untouchable. is it normal for the GM to be on the road with the team in this situation?
  2. Grifol ,there is reason why there are 8 relievers in the bullpen.
  3. Hard to believe they can square up on Peralta's 89MPH 4 seamer. Use the worst pitcher on the team for multiple innings in a tight game. They don't give themselves a chance.
  4. Have you seen his numbers? They're worse than the Sox prospects we're grousing about in AAA.
  5. Someone on Twitter claims that the Sox are asking for Matthews (BA top 100) and Cho for Fedde. I would do that. as for Jordan Walker, I wouldn’t want him anyway. He’s the definition of a declining prospect. And even if he could still hit, he’s completely unplayable on defense.
  6. I think you’re right, except that I think that that GM will want and get a discount if the Sox trade him.
  7. This is tricky because neither is at peak performance. Crochet has pitched 10 innings in July; he’s pitched well, but not the complete dominator that he was before. He’s playing into endurance concerns. If Sox hold him, Sox will limit the innings and the concerns won’t be allayed for an off-season trade and his value will have diminished because it’s one less playoff season. Robert is not playing well; how much is a team really gonna pay for his potential? in all, I don’t think we will get what we hope for either. I think they should move crochet; even though the current situation isn’t absolutely optimal, it’s still pretty good.
  8. That's what a lot of people say. It's all relative. on this team, his numbers are better than everyone except for Robert and Pham. 10 ABs in July is ridiculous. Yes, Colas should be up. And Sosa should never have been sent down. His bat was improving.
  9. Corey Julks, thee team's 3rd to best hitter, has had 10 ABs in July. Won't start him, won't use him as a pinch hitter, even in the most obvious circumstances that even Grifol could see. Square in the doghouse (how has Grifol earned the right to have a doghouse?). While Lee is by no means hitting well, he's a better hitter than the 2 guys right before him in the lineup; yet Pedro pinch hits for him and not Lopez or Baldwin.
  10. Is there a rule where when a team changes pitchers, that the other team can't announce a pinch-hitter?
  11. Looked to me like he was hitting the corners all game. Probably doesn’t use the fastball too often because it seems to peak at 93..
  12. Tallying up Passan's article from this morning: All-in Buyers 2 (Dodgers, Yankees) Non all-in Buyers 9 (Philly, Padres, DBacks, Braves, Cards, Mariners, Astros, Guards, Royals) All out Sellers 4 (Sox, Nats, Angels, Marlins) Partial Sellers 6 (As, Jays, Tigers, Rockies, Cubs, Reds) The rest try to thread the needle in one way or another, with Texas TBD Buyers: 11 Sellers: 10 If he's correct in his assessment, it really is more of an even market than a seller's market.
  13. So Jimmy or whoever knows, now that Great Falls is no more and Az is about to close, what do the players do for the next 6 weeks?
  14. That's what I was thinking, half kiddingly. For how long will a great changeup fool major league hitters, when your fastball is low 90s? Maybe it is sustainable, I don't know. Looking at gamecast on ESPN, he seems to have great command, pitching on the edges of the zone.
  15. It's like they over compensated by punting too much and just had money to spread around. Smith, for example, didn't warrant an overslot and it's hard to see how he had the leverage to get one. That's one of the reasons that I suspect that Smith was a late call from our Jerry Jones.
  16. One rising Dodgers prospect that we could really use is Alex Freeland. He's a SS, #12 on the MLB.com list, but he just entered BA's top 100. These lists are always moving. He's cut his Ks, which was his big flaw, way down this season. Dodgersnation is a pretty good listen, and their prospect guy was just glowing about him. I'd prefer guys like him over the stagnant players. I just hope that Getz doesn't do what Hahn did and rely on mlb.com (or any ranking really) to make these trades.
  17. That article has a much higher return for Flaherty than Feddy, which is ridiculous. I do like Nacho from the Braves, if he can stick at short.
  18. I guess it would be too easy for me to say not the guy who had been absolutely bombed the day before; or perhaps he could’ve gone to the guy who had pitched an effective inning 2 days before. That’s a bit of redboarding on my part, except that he consistently makes the decision that blows up. And then there was the 10th with his intentional walks with 2 outs: not with one out where you might do it to set up a double play; but with two outs where are you trying to pitch to a specific batter with no room for error. Low and behold the player he thinks is best to pitch to gets a hit. Of all the luck!
  19. I don’t think Kopech’s issue is that he chokes the ninth. But I had no problem with him bringing him in on the seventh and pitching multiple innings. It’s a good showcase. After Kopech left the game is when Pedro started effing up.
  20. It was a James Fox tweet. I’m on my phone so I’m not good with linking. You could just search on X Francona White Sox.
  21. Well, that’s how. Melton. That’s the only way. I doubt that we get a higher rated prospect than him for Fedde. That’s another team. I would look deeper into their prospect ranks too. Those guys aren’t idiots. They find players..
  22. Fedde and Vaughn for melton and a couple of other pieces. Astros could actually use Vaughn.
  23. I read on Twitter that Bruce said on the radio that the Sox were talking with or had approached Francona. is that true or is that just Bruce musing.
  24. Chavez, although I haven’t checked recently
