  1. Yea, he isn't going to vax for these scrubs, but when there's a good chance to win, sure thing.
  2. Very difficult in July with the premium prices, yes. But, as I've posted before, we sold 2 late-inning relievers for 1 Rule 5 guy each, so perhaps that's a possibility. This is kind of a circular point, but if the front office actually knew which prospects had ceiling and which didn't, that would help. But it's hard to have confidence that they do - if they were that good with prospects, the farm probably wouldn't be at a deficit. But they seem to be getting better. To that end, while trading for Kimbrel was dumb (we didn't need him) trading Madrigal, a known quantity with limited ceiling, was smart. Should have saved Madrigal for a good player that we really needed.
  3. Yes, as are 90% of them. That's the nut of it. For us to give equivalent talent (or more, as some suggest is necessary), would severely hurt the farm. We'd likely have to give top 10s. But I look at opportunity cost when evaluating these trades. And to give top 10s is just way too high from the Sox perspective, considering the wins added (a couple).
  4. Yankees gave their 18th, 24th and non top-40 prospects for Benintendi (fangraphs, 1/22). None top 20 per Law. If the Sox, can give the 18th, 24th and an unrated prospect for Happ, that would be fine.
  5. Kelly was a "buy high" off of a career year in the first place. He's been a very average pitcher, at best, during his career.
  6. Wasn’t it always realistic? Take his salary, he’s yours.
  7. Is Simas Billy Bob's son?
  8. Guardians If the Sox had the Guardians' front office, we'd be the Astros/Braves etc.
  9. He has been for a decade. He has no self- awareness, Jerry doesn't care. But why Williams tolerates hapless Hahn, I don't get.
  10. Hahn is certainly the right man for job. Sox are blessed.
  11. Pollock has been hitting a lot better lately.
  12. Leury: The 6 Million Dollar Man (I'm rounding up).
  13. Efficiency: Because they can get 2 utility infielders and a middle reliever for the price of one excellent outfielder.
  14. Cleveland has been about the best there is at snaring prospects. Tampa has traded a lot of good ones away. The thing to avoid with Tampa is their veterans; Cleveland too.
  15. Pollock has a 134 against lefties, which is higher than most in this group against righties. Someone just to platoon with him would help.
  16. And yet by January, 6 months later, this prospect no one had ever seen, was top 50. Add to that that, the international guru, Preller, just happened to be the guy to get a hold of him. Lucky guess by Preller.
  17. Well the Astros didn't make it in their year 2 of their now 8 year window. Need a deft touch; not this all or nothing stuff. And the Sox have the budget to stay good (if they would stop using significant bucks on utility infielders et al)
  18. I notice no 10K guys in the top 10. The college seniors drafted this year did seem like an upgrade from previous editions.
  19. Paddy. He really wasn't some obscure prospect. I figure Hahn didn't have a lifetime contract then, so he figured "it's now or never." a couple of weeks later he used a first rounder for Burdi. 6 weeks later, rebuild time. Hahn certainly has been more cautious in his trades since then. To some, too cautious. I can see Quintana if they are confident he can innings-eat; not to move Kopech to the bullpen, but to give him (and others) rest.
  20. Quintana was pretty gnarly in 2020-2021; One of the best players in baseball. Hahn was warned not to trade him. Just don't trade good up-the-middle prospects. No one trades good prospects for a pitcher like Quintana anyway. Rule 5 guy or 3rd tier prospect.
  21. That last at bat seemed like it took a month. Thankfully, Liam pushed through it. .500 has been passed, hopefully never to return.
