  1. They haven't made a good trade for a starting pitcher since before the Kenny Williams era. A few have been pure disasters. They seem hell- bent on repeating the things that don't work, and not repeating the things that do. Just a couple of #4s would really help this staff.
  2. Because you can have a hole in the lineup and still be okay; and our hole won't be on defense. You can't have a hole in the rotation. And yes it doesn't preclude a starter...but this org. has a history over the last 20 years of being a starter short when in contention (2005 obviously excepted) I really don't want the Sox to wed themselves to a flawed player like Ozuna; there may be someone they can grab in July on a salary dump. As for the pen, those names you listed: they all had career years last year. And none are of the stud variety to pull you out of jams. Just sayin...
  3. I would prefer that the Sox use its resources on pitching. They can get by in RF with what they have. They cannot get by with this pitching staff or anything close to it. They need 2 starters and 2 relievers.
  4. It sounded good, all the right buzzwords, the slight tone of condescension, but said nothing. i.e. the usual Hahn interview.
  5. Yea, that's what they needed to do with Fulmer and his elite spin rate. Maybe they tried and gave up; regardless, they didn't fix it.
  6. And for the soothsayers and rabbit's foot crowd, adding that piece would harm the team unless that extension is going to happen; thus, there's no point in adding him without the extension.
  7. Along with those that believe that Betts will re-up with the White Sox. Still, I would pursue Rendon. There is a chance that the big boy in that chase is Texas and that the Dodgers, Yankees, et al don't pursue.
  8. It doesn't matter if these 1 year rents are "fair trades." They will not lead to building a winner. You need to make "Fair trades" that help you win. "Fair trades" can harm you when you trade needed parts for unneeded parts or for those quickly consumed (like 1 year rents). And to trade pitching when this org. is way short on pitching (healthy or otherwise)?
  9. Can't fault Preller for this. Preller's under an unrealistic "win now" order after only 5+ years on the job.
  10. The perennially overrated Archer and his 2019 5+ ERA sounds about right.
  11. Hopefully the White Sox (the Mets would say no to). No interest in trading away starting pitching on this team that is devoid of starting pitching. Sox can live with a weak hitting RF. They can't live with this pitching staff (unless each of Kopech, Dunning and Rodon produce immediately off of injury and some AAAA guys find new life in the pen).
  12. Rays know what they're doing on these trades; terrific pro scouting. And they got Pham in the first place for not a whole lot.
  13. yes they are more likely to win in 21 than 20; and 22 than 21. But they need to get the show on the road. No interest in any Hahn trades for veterans (c. 5% success rate), but it's time to amass some free agent pitching.
  14. Last year, it was the Padres; this year the Phillies. Next year it will be the Rangers or Giants. It's not happening with this outfit until they show tangible results.
  15. He's the guy I absolutely don't want to sell. He's got "top 100" written all over him soon. Yes you're right teams want pitching back and the Sox 2nd tier hitting prospects had poor years overall. That leaves 3 veterans to trade: McCann Colome Bummer And then they'll need a completely new pen.
  16. What would they have to give up to get someone like Musgrove from the Pirates? Something that doesn't involve young pitching.
  17. There's always a reason; always an excuse. At some point you have to deliver.....unless you are Rick Hahn, in which case just being Rick Hahn is delivery enough. Rick Hahn doing trades for veterans....can't wait.
  18. We don't know what the Sox offered, so we don't know if they overeplayed their hand. But last year they low-balled; hopefully they didn't this year. And no, he isn't worth twice what other guys are worth; but they don't need those other guys - they need a TOR guy. The Nats overpaid for Corbin and won a title. And since the Sox don't adhere to many of the practices of winning organizations, it's okay with me if they don't adhere to the "not-overpaying" practice as well.
  19. Wheeler is a solid 2. That's what the Sox need. There really is no fall-back option.
  20. Well he had an excellent year and they won a ring; they had the front line pitching to match the Astros. As for Puig, not a big fan either, but I haven't seen any solid choices. Can't the Sox develop an outfielder for goodness sakes...whose the last one developed from draft to an above average starter? Rowand?
  21. I hope you're right. But Sox have a lot to fix themselves. They really could use a real 8th inning flamethrower, e.g. And a RF (although I'd be satisfied with a Puig type). If the Sox like Wheeler, they need to overpay for him. That's how the Nats got Corbin; they really liked him (and they were correct in that assessment) and they paid a premium price. And were rewarded.
  22. I was thinking 4/$85. But he's worth 5/$110; it may be above market, but he's worth it.
  23. False choice; 1 year rents are not the only trading option...unless you are reactive instead of proactive; play on the other team's terms and lack creativity. Plus, what Sox prospects have real trade value, but whom the Sox have no real need as they are surplus?
