  1. He was not universal top 15 and I don't think anyone had him at 11; where the Sox drafted him, he was a reach. And the prior year, while (the now promoted) Hostetler drafts Collins and Burdi, the Dodgers, drafting much later, nab Lux and Will Smith. At some point, there needs to be accountability.
  2. Whoever plays 2B will Lead-off. Possibly the same lead-off as last year: Leury Garcia.
  3. Rutherford has enough value to get a live bullpen arm with potential. That's what they need. I'd look at someone like Feliz from the Pirates. Improving, high Ks, but still hasn't put it all together.
  4. Yea - Rutherford for a reliever- okay. Preferably one that is reasonably young with some control.
  5. Phases 3 and 4 should be the same; you trade for vets when you know you can contend. Phase 5 depends on drafting/development/evaluation and there's not much evidence that it has improved from where it's been most of the last 2 decades. Hopefully Phase 3/4 is a roaring success.
  6. 2.5 years ago, the conventional wisdom was that we must trade Kahnle because relievers ebb and flow, despite 4+ years of control. Now to get a reliever it will cost at least Rutherford, which is all we got for Kahnle, Frazier and Robertson (a couple of rule 5 guys added in). We got Kahnle by dealing the prospect we got for dumping Beckham - there's always dissonance in that kind of move - essentially dumping Beckham for Kahnle. Plus Kahnle hadn't come close to putting it together when acquired. Don't trade a serious prospect for a reliever.
  7. He is and really the only pitcher in the lower minors we have. No way should they trade good prospects for relievers, especially pitching prospects. Go sign Hudson - if Cooper will allow it.
  8. How about the Sox concentrate on building a contending baseball team, versus contrivances that will hurt like this? a I would also note that actual Contenders that have no 3B aren't pursuing this. But a 72 win team that has a 3B should?
  9. If they want to trade him, they'd be smart to trade him to the White Sox. They get the prospects they want, plus damage a divisional rival long term. If they trade Lindor, they don't care what happens next year anyway.
  10. The Rays would do that trade in a heartbeat...that's what they do. For the Sox, that's buying high on a career year.
  11. At this point that's basically what they need to do. Get 2 capable starters in here to take innings, relieve pressure from the young guys, etc. No silly contrivances for guys who were studs 3 years ago.
  12. One of those for the 35 year old injured pitcher is too many. Them liking Price - who, although in decline, was one of the best pitchers in baseball several years ago - is the way the White Sox FO has viewed the game for a long time. Maybe Rutherford - if they must have Price.
  13. Yep Yep (that's why he's on the block hoping some dupe will trade real talent for him) and Yep And, as said above, it all helps out the RedSox with their financial problems (just like they did for the Indians last season; I would suggest helping themselves instead)
  14. I read somewhere that he's lost a lot on his fastball; thus the control issues. But still, for #5, seems good. And he might figure out how to pitch with less velocity
  15. Back to the topic, when the Price thing first came up, the idea was the RedSox had to throw in Benentendi to get someone to take Price. Now we're talking Vaughn and/or Madrigal for a 34 year old pitcher and/or Benentendi (a nice player, but not special). And if you're worried about Ryu's health, why not Price's? Walk away from that nonsense.
  16. Friedman v. Hahn. It's like deciding between lobster and Filet; a BMW or Lexus. Let's see - while Hahn drafted Vanderbilt's Fulmer, 16 picks later, Friedman picks Walker Buehler. The next year, Hahn again picking well ahead of the Dodgers (that happens when you field a bad team) selects Collins and Burdi in round 1; Friedman picks Lux and Will Smith in round 1. Friedman also got Muncy and Turner for nothing. You see, Friedman makes up for his gaffes. Hahn has to tear the entire team down, such as it was, to recoup the talent from his gaffes. And from the continued moribund drafting, the rebuilt gets stretched. The FA signings have been 5 bad/1 good. The trades for vets - other than Soria, which one has been a plus? Were the Sox better off letting Avi and Flowers (to sign Navarro!!) go?
  17. Hahn has been consistently terrible at trading for veterans and at trading away prospects. His Shields trade kneecapped this organization. Big difference between that and getting good prospects for high-end players in their prime, at low cost, like he did with Sale, Eaton and Quintana. And beyond those 3, he didn't accomplish much at all in his dispersal. Most secondary trades were giveaways for Rule 5 guys.
  18. They shouldn't. And if good prospects are required, they shouldn't make the trade. He's an aging pitcher who wasn't anything special last year and who has pitched 1/2 a season in 2 of the last 3 years. That's the price to pay. Boston may not like it. But the Sox can go free agent route if they don't like it. Most prospects don't pan out. But most GMs understand which ones are real prospects with potential and which are limited. Unfortunately, the Sox GM is not one of the "most" and you can't take the chance with him dealing prospects. He's really bad at the veteran side of the trades too.
  19. Agree- Engel improved a lot with the bat last year. Another step up in improvement and he's a pretty good player.
  20. They are happy to be at the table for premium talent. They hit on 1 of 2 of their targets and continue to have great conversations.
  21. Note the word "feigned". If your #6 prospect yields Mazara what does that tell you about this organization? The pitchers that the Rangers signed miss bats; Nova, whom the Sox traded for last season, does not. Sox could use those 2 pitchers.
  22. Don't sign Castellanos. Don't tie yourself to another player who can't defend. And I will point out that Adam Engel had an OPS over .840 against LHP last year. He's always shown big splits, and his overall O took a big jump last year. And he brings some D. (I'll now duck). Sign pitching.
  23. The reason is that a)the Sox got very little from secondary trades and b) their drafting/development of their own players remains bottom quartile and c) their 3rd tier free agent signings, particularly pitching have been terrible. Honestly, 2 solid #4 starters would help this team immensely right now.
  24. Well he successfully feigned high demand for a flawed player he was trying to get rid of, such that he got a GM to give him its #6 prospect for him. That's something.
