  1. The reason is that a)the Sox got very little from secondary trades and b) their drafting/development of their own players remains bottom quartile and c) their 3rd tier free agent signings, particularly pitching have been terrible. Honestly, 2 solid #4 starters would help this team immensely right now.
  2. Well he successfully feigned high demand for a flawed player he was trying to get rid of, such that he got a GM to give him its #6 prospect for him. That's something.
  3. I can think of only one trade for a veteran by this FO that has been a positive (Soria) and several that have been devastatingly negative. And most of it wasn't bad luck: it was self-induced. So put me in the "scared" category. But I will say, they are certainly due for a good one.
  4. All that stuff Hahn said about trading prospects only for young players with 4 or 5 years of control? Forget it. This is trade the top prospects for 2 years of a veteran top of offers, with Hahn as the dupe. And, no, an injured Chris Sale does not warrant a top prospect. Good lord.
  5. For Palka and Reed. No outgoing pitching.
  6. That's not how Rick Hahn does salary dumps; the Red Sox will wrangle a good prospect or 2 out of him, if they know what they're doing.
  7. The "industry" probably has a better idea of the guys in his farm - which ones have real potential - than he does.
  8. Price +40% of his contract should be for free.
  9. The risk is 2 years of control, with this team nowhere near ready to win with our without him.
  10. Well this is certainly the organization to improve a player's walk rate. Abreu used to walk a lot too, until he learned the White Sox Way.
  11. Giving good prospects for bad veterans. Walker was #7 on Future Sox. The Brewers sent Seattle their #25ish prospect for Narvaez who had more WAR last year than Mazara has had in his entire career. That's what Rick Hahn brings to the bargaining table.
  12. Makes sense - Hahn routinely "sells" (at a massive discount) international bonus money to the Rangers; he makes Rule 5 picks for he Rangers. Maybe its time for Daniels to do him a solid - Mazara for the international money that Hahn won't use anyway.
  13. That's if you want a 2-3 year window like the Royals. You should ALWAYS have a prospect push. Injuries, upgrades, etc. That's what drafts and international signings are for. Good FOs don't rely on top 5 picks or good prospects only when they tank.. And this org. hasn't shown any ability to be above the bottom quartile via the draft (they're better at international signings, the rare times they bother trying).
  14. That would be a fair trade. Whether it helps the Sox is another question.
  15. If those are the only 2 prospects we have of real merit, we won't be rolling. You'll need more, if for no other reason, to trade WHEN you are rolling (versus off of 72 wins)
  16. In this case, it's enough. Although that .310 OPB, 25% K rate and lousy defense add to the fun
  17. Mazara full season WAR: .5 Adam Engel 1/2 season WAR: .8
  18. How about not trading for .6333 season avg. WAR player at all
  19. IFF that's the reason they fired him. There's been some talk, but I haven't seen much objective and tangible evidence that this org. is very interested in analytics.
  20. Low OBP and high K. 1.7 WAR over 3 years. Premium talent.
  21. The Giants know how to accept a salary dump. Hold a seminar, Zaidi, and invite Rick Hahn.
  22. Well-said In fact, I think the Sox would be in good shape with a couple of consistent #3/4s.
  23. I thought it was funny. I didn't take it as a jab that "no one wants to play for the Sox"; rather as a jab on the FO always rushing out the news "we had the better offer"
