  1. This organization a fiefdom. The top priority in this organization is the comfort of Williams, Hahn and Cooper (and probably several others). If they don't win it doesn't matter.
  2. It wouldn't surprise me. This is how insular societies operate - and the Sox organization is an insular society.
  3. There's no reason for him to be here right now along with about half a dozen other awful veterans. This is a dog and pony show.
  4. I can't get upset with Detweiler...he throws strikes - he gives them what he's got doing the best he can.
  5. Great pitching. Jon Jay now has an OPS below that of both Yolmer and Engel. Bring back Cordell, bring up Mercedes...something.
  6. Looking at the individual statistics, the Padres should be a better team than they are. They have 5 effective starting pitchers, 3 effective relievers, and only 2 or 3 holes in the lineup. The Sox need to concentrate on starting pitching in the offseason. Yea Grandal is a better catcher than McCann...but this team has basically 2 sure starters doing into next season.
  7. The Knight's bullpen needs the veteran leadership of Santiago.
  8. It would be really cool if Cordero is a keeper. He really hadn't pitched worth a hoot since 2016, until he joined the Sox. Detweiler has done pretty well as a starter...not so much as a reliever. Not sure why they insist on switching he and Santiago between the roles. Not sure why Santiago is up at all...if Minaya is all they have in Charlotte, he's still better than Santiago.
  9. What about switching out Skole for Mercedes? Skole has done absolutely nothing on the major league team. Or Santiago for anyone? The pennant race in Charlotte? Good lord.

    WSI

I posted at both places for a long time - only suspended at WSI once (remarkable, really). At some point, I think in the 2007-2010 period, some guys, whom I figured were WSI ex-pats, started a new site. I think it was Soxinthecity.net or something like that. It was good site, but fizzled out after a year or 2.
  11. Cordell, Engel, whomever....they are all better than and should be on this team before the Rickys' cleanup hitter, Jon Jay.
  12. Well of course JR did. Join the lifetime contract ranks with Hahn, KW, Cooper and apparently Ricky Renteria. And if Hahn has anything to say about it, Hostetler and Haber too. And as much as Stone is playing house-horse these days, he's probably close too.
  13. Unfortunately he went into a funk in a meaningful month of baseball this year. His numbers aren’t great. Yeah they’re better than whoever they’ll probably call up. But this is a team with numerous organizational minor leaguers not only on the 25 but starting every day. It’s hard to imagine they are this thin at this point. Winning is not happening next year
  14. Sure leadership is important. But leadership is organic...you don't force it. If Abreu's time to leave has come, so be it...you don't keep him (or anyone) around for leadership. Someone will take his place. I hear 3rd parties (media, front office) say he's a great leader, but the players?
  15. Probably 1/4 of the players on this 25 roster shouldn't be on a major league 40 man roster.
  16. Peak value, such as it is, was in July. They wouldn't get much for him in December. Does he deserve RF? No, of course not. Would I prefer him to signing Ozuna for multiple years - yes; or Dickerson - double yes.
  17. Dunn, Laroche and Frazier didn't fail because they were NL hitters. Laroche was 35 and really didn't want to play anymore; Dunn declined for some reason; and Frazier never was a great hitter to begin with - he popped homers out of the Cincy bandbox and people thought that would translate seamlessly to the Cell. Plus the Sox don't really bring out the best in the low BA, high walk, high K profile hitters: they seem to walk less, K more as the BA craters once they hit the southside. Harper is a completely different class of hitter.
  18. The Sox have done well trading for other teams' prospects. The Sox have done well in the international market, when they've tried. The Sox have not done well evaluating U.S. amateur talent. The Sox have seen significant leakage in evaluating their own prospects. The Sox have been terrible in evaluating major league veterans.
  19. Yes his big 3 dispersal trades were good; some very good. But he had a lot to trade, including an elite pitcher. All under LT contracts. His work otherwise has been largely terrible.
  20. Not particularly well, but not quite awful either; they've picked up worse. Hasn't pitched since June.
  21. Option the prospect; keep the organizational minor leaguers.
  22. Such as 3 of the 4 you mentioned above. That's the problem. And the Samardzija trade was just poorly intended and executed.
  23. Sure he knows they need a starter. Who doesn't? His ongoing problem is the inability to evaluate players; and then acquiring them on terms that harm, rather than help, the team and organization.
  24. yep Another way to look at it. Marcus Semien, alone has a higher career WAR (17.5) than all of Hahn's draft picks combined. Man if you add Tatis....yikes. But the raw number of 14.9/17.3 WAR from all of those drafts is atrocious on its own. The positive WAR players are Anderson, Rodon, Bummer, Engle (.3) and Fry (.1).
