Our Poor Chicago Media, er Again
quade36 replied to quade36's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) It's a matter of one branch of the company hyping another branch of it. If the Trib owned the Bulls, they'd be trumpeting the Bulls success. It's all about cha-ching. Yeah, but in this case, there is a big difference. Its not like there is another basketball team in Chicago. -
Okay, in 2000 I stopped reading the Tribune because the day the Sox clinched the division the biggest article on their front page of the sports section was Kerry Woods pitches an eight inning gem, and in a small corner, Sox clinch division. Well, after a few years of reading the suntimes, I eventually went back to the trib. I know I know, its still biased, but the suntimes writers are just so horrid. I really didn't have a choice. Well, I was yet again shocked by the Trib but in a different way this past Sunday. As you all know Saturday night the Bulls clinched their first playoff birth in 8 years. Thats pretty big news if you ask me. In fact, its gigantic. While eating breakfast with my girlfriend I pointed out to her how the cubs and Carlos Zambrano's great game were gigantically smacked right in the middle of the first page of the sports section, and oh, in the bottom corner, Bulls clinch playoff birth. I understand the trib's bias against the Sox, but the Bulls? Thats jsut a load....

Ozzie's quote on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball
quade36 replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought they gave the Sox some justice. They said that this team was still a powerful team in the very beginning. It was funny, they started going down the lineup and seeing how many HRs each player hit and made it a point to say even though they lost some power, they still have quite a few hitters. -
Talk about waking up at the right time!!!

Is now the starting shortstop for the Mariners. Hopefully, Ozuna will pan out and we did not make a mistake.

Wow, I heard the fireworks from Division and Halsted!!!!! -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) The ChiSox will need a whole lot of luck to get out of April above 500. The ChiSox were long shots to win the division to start with so there's not as much pressure to win this year. Put BMac in at #3 & let him grow. Who is this guy and why is he on a Sox thread if he bashes the Sox all the time???? Oh, and sorry to say they Sox are NOT a long shot to win the division. Whoever believes that probably believes the Tigers actually can win.
-
Well they didn't say he broke it definitely. They said he could be out 2-6 weeks.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) That's from Yahoo News. That is yahoo news. I have never taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs.... Why couldn't he just say I have never taken steriods????? hmmmmmmmm

With the Emergence of McCarthy and the idea that it'll be hard not to bring this guy up to the majors, who can the Sox trade to make room for him and what could they get? I know Garland and Contreras' names keep popping up in threads. But which would you trade (or maybe someone else) and what do the Sox need to get in return? I think the Sox did a great job in the offseason filling their needs so I am a little curious as to what you all think about this.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) Its not even close...I'd take JG over JC any day of the week. But remember, this is a luxury. The Sox have 6 capable guys plus its a given that every team is gonna have an injury or two at one point or another in the rotation, so Brandon will get his shot. Even Rooney and farmer were talking about a trade to make room for him. Actually, remember the Sox still have a few Minor league pitchers as a backup plan. Adkins could be solid, so could Diaz, and I am sure they haven't given up on Munoz, Honel, Stewart and Tracy. All these guys should be in AAA this year.

Well McCarthy pitched well while in trouble. -
I loved Rob Deer. How many guys do you know could hit an amazing .209 with 27 HRs and 147 Ks and still have fans upset that he left their team in 1990.

we don't need rob deer......

March 14 2005 Cubs vs Sox spring training game
quade36 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2005 Season in Review
We have no power, we have no power....... -
What happened to all the media talk of the Sox bad start????? How they can't score any runs???? The Sox are now 5-6 in the spring training and showing signs that their pitching will be leading the way. Oh, and they ARE scoring runs....
-
I find it funny that the San Diego anouncers pointed out how the Sox aren't a small market team yet their owner gives that assumption.

QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) I can't wait for the Sox to finish in 3rd place so I can read some more about how great Juan Uribe is, or how awesome Aaron Rowand is. Its just a joke. Is this guy trolling????
