  1. Tue, Aug 19 8:10 PM EDT U.S. Cellular Field Baltimore 71-52 @ Chi White Sox 59-66 Orioles-White Sox Preview By JEFF MEZYDLO (STATS Senior Writer) AP - Sports Chris Tillman's current success has come at home for the Baltimore Orioles, but he's been just as good away from Camden Yards of late. The right-hander will try a fourth time to improve to 7-0 on the road Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox. Tillman (9-5, 3.68 ERA) is 6-0 with a 4.68 ERA in 13 road starts, but has a 1.69 ERA in his last four since yielding five runs in one-plus inning during an 8-6 loss at Texas on June 5. He's not pitched away from home since July 23 when he gave up a run in six innings of a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. In Tillman's next start, he gave up five runs - three earned - in five innings of a 7-6, 12-inning victory over the Angels, but has gone 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA in the next three. He's allowed a two-run homer in each of the last two for his only runs over those three, most recently Wednesday in seven innings while not factoring in the decision of a 5-3 win over the New York Yankees. Tillman is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA against the White Sox (59-66), but hasn't faced them since 2012. Markakis, who hit one of his team's three home runs, also robbed Conor Gillaspie of a potential go-ahead homer with a leaping grab in the seventh to help the AL East-leading Orioles (71-52) win their second straight. ''They're pretty much the whole package,'' losing pitcher Chris Sale said. ''You've got to be sharp and on your A-game when they come into town." Markakis is batting .415 during a 10-game hitting streak, and is 9 for 15 with three RBIs in his last four at Chicago. He's 1 for his last 7 with three strikeouts against Jose Quintana (6-9, 3.14). The left-hander gave up five runs in 3 2-3 innings of a 5-3 loss in his first start versus Baltimore in 2012, but has yielded four and fanned 23 over 21 innings to go 1-1 in three since. All four runs have come on solo homers, most recently one from Pearce in seven innings of a 4-2 victory June 24. ''He's a guy that short arms the ball and the ball jumps out of his hand," Markakis said. "It is tough to get in a rhythm when you don't see the ball behind his back." Quintana went 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA during a nine-start stretch prior to posting a 4.38 ERA while losing his last two. He left in the seventh of a 7-1 loss at San Francisco on Wednesday, when he was charged with four of the seven runs scored in an inning that featured an overturned blocking-the-plate call. Nelson Cruz is 2 for his last 6 with a home run against Quintana. He hit his 32nd on Monday to surpass Chicago's Jose Abreu for the AL lead. Abreu has gone 18 straight contests without homering. Chicago's Avisail Garcia had a two-run single, and is 4 for 10 with three RBIs in three games since missing four months with a shoulder injury. Alexei Ramirez is 4 for 6 with a homer against Tillman
  2. If new ownership took over in the next 10 years and wanted a new publicly funded stadium, would you support it?
  3. Not umpire related. Anyone listen to the radio broadcast yesterday? Was DJ not in the booth with Farmer? He sounded like he was doing the broadcast from his home while watching a monitor.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Actually these took a week to make. Obviously the longer you take the more they will soak in the brine, but it wasnt bad at all We made ours on Labor Day, ate them on Thanksgiving.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) They taste so good, the only problem is it takes soooooo long for them to make. 2 1/2 months. Not so long if you stay busy.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) How has he been doing down in Charlotte? 13-38 in has ABs.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) They have 39 active players on the 40-man roster. Well... Problem solved then! /thankswite!
  8. Garcia is on the 60 day dl. Someone will need to be removed from the 40 man as well.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) It will be really interesting to see who gets moved. Jordan Danks is the last guy on the roster, but then either De Aza or Garcia is your CF. Someone will suffer from a mysterious ailment very soon.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) I didn't know they were back together...no wonder he is injured and pitching like s*** She's Memo Paris.

    2014 TV thread

I've been renting and watching BBC's Sherlock (I'm just one episode into season 2). I like it, but only 3 episodes a season is a sad disappointment.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) So if the Tigers miss the playoffs, who's that on, Ausmus or DD? Because if Ventura had that talent that the Tigers have, and the Sox were in their position right now, we would be calling for RV's heads. Ausmus is the sacrificial lamb. Dombrowski is only doing what the owner tells him to do. If anything, the flop is on the owner.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) So here we are 11,400 minutes after the trade deadline and the Sox still haven't traded anybody. So what now?
  14. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) I like the Martin idea (as well as the deal for Salty option Roostifer considered before) as far as a shorter term stopgap. But I hate the idea of trading one of our best pieces in Alexei for a C prospect. C prospects bust at an incredible rate. I want to get someone else's proven player. And really look arond the league, you don't need an ideal type of C to win ballgames. The A's didn't spend a lot acquiring a C, the Jays signed Navarro for free as did the Rays and Cubs before, etc. We need to get a SP, LH bat, or an MLB ready SS out of Alexei. Or if it is a RH bat then it needs to be a damn good one in terms of potential. The LH bat is our biggest need. The A's are exploding with catchers. Sox should acquire one of them. Norris Jaso Vogt
  15. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) Props to you Wite this is a solid list. I just think you are crazy for making Rondon a top ten prospect when his ceiling is Brendan Ryan. Perhaps that says something about the current state of the Sox minor leagues right now.

  20. Soul Men was pretty good. - Funny through the first half, but feels forced and emo by the second half. It's a good rental if you enjoy Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson and the word, "motherf***er."
  21. I don't doubt that Derrick has been rehabbing hard; I just wonder if he listens to the wrong people when making his decisions.
