FS: Write-up on Ryan Cordell, newest Sox prospect
knightni replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) I like this move. Love the fact that we keep adding outfielders to the mix. Hopefully he can get some time in Chicago before the year ends. Probably a better option than Jacob May or Danny Hayes if Avi or Melky get dealt. -
Trump has been living on bank credit for years; he doesn't really own as much as he claims. He admitted that himself in the Art of the Deal book that he wrote in the '80s. He borrows from one thing to start something else.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) So a little off topic, but can we find out how many posts and pages were on all the Q trade threads combined? It would be pretty interesting to find out who much we talk about it... About 2,200 or so. -
He's killing it this year.
-
Has a tear in his UCL. Probably getting Frank Jobe surgery and won't see the field until 2019.

I've seen it twice. and I'm already sick of the term, "rot on the vine." -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) I just don't see Avi as part of our next contender, and I don't think there's any way he's ever going to have a BETTER season, so I'm all for moving him for a decent offer, despite his youth. His RF defense leaves something to be desired as well.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Basabe is the classic toolshed prospect who is missing a hit tool. To his benefit he is playing most of this season as a 20 year old in A+ ball. He is very likely to repeat in Winston Salem next season and will need to show considerable improvement with the hit tool. His stock is down for sure. He hit for low average (.264) last year, but showed power (12 HR) in low A.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) I think the prospects guarantee the Sox a WS or two. I'm just saying as part of the process, you have to look at the lousiness of this season and tack on however bad the team is the next 2 seasons. I think the prospects make sense on paper and hopefully will star in the big leagues. That will be great if Moncada, Eloy and Robert rake the baseball to go with Avi and Abreu and Anderson hopefully having continued success. Well, everybody was asked to vote. I gave it a 2 because I have to combine the current misery with what is coming, which is a few WS titles according to the experts, which will be great. But now I say if you combine both factors the rebuild 'currently' is a 5. That's because the current team is that bad. Remember all seasons are equal. The WS seasons are going to be great. But these horrific seasons have to figure in the overall equation/grade. Well, my paying attention to the prospects is assuming they are great. They are mostly all rated very high, baseball people love them, so that's good enough for me. Now when they get to the bigs is when fans like me get excited and 'judge' them. I trust that the key pieces acquired are difference makers and WS are in the Sox future. I'm not saying the rebuild is going terrible BTW, I'm saying the current big league product is beyond horrific. I think that's OK for me to figure into the overall grade. The prospects Hahn have acquired all make sense and all figure to provide October/November baseball to Chicago hopefully for a 5-8 year window. Quality prospects don't guarantee World Championships. They just allow for more budgetary movement to get more value in free agency and to build a winning team. The Cubs had the money to get Arrieta, Heyward, Fowler, Zobrist, and to extend Rizzo because they had young, cheap guys with talent at many starting spots.

I chose Sale because Moncada is as good as two guys in value, but the Eaton trade had the most depth for Eaton's value.

I wonder where it would have landed if the roof had been open.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) I'd estimate that Anderson would barely be in top 15 if he was in our minor league system right now. Sanchez and Saladino were never MLB starting caliber guys to begin with. They'd probably be way down in the 20s on the present list. I take it back. Anderson would be about #8 or 9. But, the top 15 that the Sox have right now, gives them the best system that they've had in many years.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) I am not suggesting that Hahn did NOT have other choices. To the contrary, I am stating that he did. One of the choices was to not make that breathless trade with Epstein and to simply wait to trade Quintana. Epstein became desperate to deal for a starter. The return was not overwhelming. No one can say that Quintana would have had any less trade value this week than he did last week...including to the cubs. Quintana will not win a World Series for the cubs but he may put them in a good position to get into the play-offs. Chalk up one big win already along with the emotional turn around of the team after getting that shot in the arm. Go ahead and root for the cubs . I guess the rest of us will wait for 2019 when So, you'd rather he dealt Q to another team for less than he got from the Cubs? That's pretty narrow thinking. -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) I don't agree. The current MLB team's lack of success can be blamed on either poor drafting/identifying talent and /or poor player development with positional players. Critical with this rebuild is that the FO identify quality young players in both trades and the draft. Second, they must develop them once they get them. Anderson is our only real positional roster player that the farm has produced that has a chance to be a building block in the rebuild. So far the results are still mixed. Sanchez and Saladino still border on utility type players. I'd estimate that Anderson would barely be in top 15 if he was in our minor league system right now. Sanchez and Saladino were never MLB starting caliber guys to begin with. They'd probably be way down in the 20s on the present list.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) If you are objective that's absolutely true. There's no way to give it anything HIGHER than a 5. Why? Cold hard evidence. The current FACTS are the Sox have a horrible baseball team on the field right now. So in that regard the rebuild is frankly a zero. However, in the prospect world, the prospects push it to a 9. So average it out and you get a 4 or 5. The facts are that the team stinks right now and for some time to come. But the experts say the prospects guarantee a future WS or several WS. So you have to average both factions, folks. Like harkness said it is hard to impossible to rate it at this point because the prospects are amazing according to the analysts; the current team is so bad it is beyond belief. If the prospects don't pan out, the current team's lousiness would forevermore deem the rebuild a failure. The current mlb team's success or lack-there-of, has zero to do with the success or failure of the rebuild. I don't see how trying to improve yourself through youth is a bad thing. The Sox have certainly had minimal success with less talented minor league guys and above average free agents. The 2000, 2005 and 2008 players - for the most part, never really had super talent. They just hit all cylinders at the right time.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) I'm not really talking about signing FA....they can do that when they have a hole or 2 to plug when they are ready to go. That's the mistake this (same) FO made in 2014-2015: tried to plug 8 holes with free agents. They will have to sign a few cheapies here and there just to field a team next year. But as the prospects get called up, they are going to have to be fluid and flexible - move some to find players who may better fit what they are trying to do....especially as they don't draft very well (I'll believe the improvement when I see it) and this set of prospects may very well be it. And they have some young players right now that they will have to figure out what to do with to minimize the amount of "rotting on the vine." If they're ready, they'll play. If they're not, they'll be in AAA. Many of these guys are 20-22 and will not be playing in the majors for 2 to 3 seasons. Starting pitching is the only future logjam that I see, and honestly, having a large pool of quality arms is actually a great thing and not something to be concerned about. Depth is a great luxury to have. What position guys are blocking each other right now?

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) I think Hahn's a far superior GM than KW ever was, I don't see him picking fights with star players either Williams always had a weak system and an underachieving, slow, aging lineup At least Hahn has a direction and is truly dominating this rebuild Plus, Hahn has limited himself in the pickup of former Cleveland Indians from the late 90s.

Pineda out with partially torn UCL. Could need TJ.

QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) Them DFA'ing Sandoval may be a sign they are willing to make a move, but I've heard they really like Tzu-Wei Lin, whom they called up not too long ago. Don't know how much stock I put into that though. Frazier would benefit them well. Their top prospect Rafael Devers is a 3B, and was just promoted to AAA 2 hours ago.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Is Jay Groome currently a top 50 prospect? That was the trade you proposed. #34 http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) If it gets us more/better prospects, do it. Exact type of move we should be doing for the next couple years while rebuilding & have no payroll. It's the Browns/Texans Ostweiler deal.
