  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) With all of the affiliates each team has this would be a huge expenditure. ARod gets $252 million. The cost of each facility would be maybe $15 million per place.
  2. Each minor league team should create a campus. Dorms, cafeteria, common area, training facility. Offer space for the visiting clubs too. Part of the problem is solved, this way.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I don't think the foreign guys usually get one. But for the guys who do, I would imagine it is to a specific college or a specific dollar amount. I would imagine most getting them were getting a full ride anyway. With the cost of college, why would you give up a full ride for a $50k bonus? If you didn't make it, you would be in the hole getting educated. Because they are young and poor. Most would take the cash over the college. It's a sense of need and want over a possible future need.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) What would be interesting to see is a college scholarship clause in a contract. Does it pay for 4 years of Yale or community college? How many foreign free agents might not even be equipped to go to a college?
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) Hoiberg on Obama coming to the game: "It'll be cool." Hoiberg on the after game buffet: "Nice! I like food."

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) It's the realization that it was the peak of baseball for us...we were all at the perfect age to have an amazing time through the 05 run...AND, you will likely never see a team as dominating again. Wire to wire. 4 complete games in the ALCS. Timely hitting throughout. 11-1. World series. Even if another team goes far, odds are you never see anything like the 05 Sox again. AND they were beating actual names...it's not like they outpitched a bunch of young kids nobody's ever heard of... It's like how the Jordan Bulls were crushing superstar hall of famers instead of a bunch of over the hill has-beens or never was types like Miami did. The 72 win Bulls team has made me passive as well. Rose and company are a pale replacement.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) And tickets cost a nickel and a pack of bubble gum There was also ownership collusion and a reserve clause.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) After 2005, I felt like the Sox had accomplished everything I'd ever wanted...and if I'm being perfectly honest, baseball lost a lot of it's sheen to me. At the time it was my favorite sport, and after it happened, I felt like it was over. Both Hockey and Football rank above baseball for me now...and they weren't even in the running prior to 2005. Post 05, I've hardly posted in the actual baseball forums, and almost exclusively posted in Slam...I just don't care anymore. Win or lose, I have just as much fun these days. I'm also in a bit of a malaise and indifference. Frank is gone. Paulie is gone. Buehrle is gone. Sale and Abreu don't really have the same affect on me as past players did. I guess that I'm getting old.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 12:21 AM) The Mets really are the Sox of the NL Because of their young pitchers?

Have see far too many Walking Dead Zombies will be hungry jokes today.
  11. I worked for a single A team in concessions twenty years ago, and the visiting players would line up at the end of the games for leftover hot dogs, so they could eat something without having to spend their meal money on food. Pretty sad that pro baseball players get fed worse than college guys.
  12. The USC and Georgia Tech wins helped ND's SOS. Now, they have to keep up their winning. Temple and Stanford would be excellent additions to the SOS if they take them both down easily.
  13. They were both successful franchises during my kid/teen years so I'm indifferent as they both deserve a comeback. Although, the Royals' window is closing soon and the Mets' window is just starting to open. I'd say, the Royals winning would be the best option as the Mets will have the next 5 years to taunt and squash the Cubs' dreams.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 30m30 minutes ago New #Mariners manager Scott Servais has never managed or coached at any level. No one even blinks; such hirings becoming almost the norm. It's called: The Ventura Effect.
  15. Well, We're all set with left SPs for the next 5 years.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Great, thank you so much! I really appreciate your time. No problem!
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Also googling his name the first result said Theo is looking to give him an extension and resign Fowler. Theo said those things at a press conference yesterday.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) I agree with basically all of this, but the entire front office could have been let go over Tyrus Thomas/LaMarcus Aldridge. Just want to be fair. Basically, it allowed them to move up to get Doug McDermott.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 10:17 AM) Out of everything done since Star Wars, Harry Potter comes the closest, and is the only one that has the potential to maybe some day match it. There's no other franchise that has a toy for every single character, set, and ship/vehicle that's ever been in the film. Hundreds of characters. There's never been a film series with that kind of huge cast that had that kind of popularity. Not even LOTR or Marvel films. Maybe Star Trek, but they don't really appeal to kids. Not sword-fight-y space enough.
  20. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) No. It still says "logged in as: Mike F." Ideally, I'd like it to say "logged in as: ChiSoxFanMike". We can change your screen name, but not your login name. You can have your name to the left be "ChiSoxFanMike" but you'll always have to login as "Mike F."
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Define choke? For a 97 win team with the 3rd best record in baseball they put on an absolutely pathetic display in all facets of the game. The Mets aren't good enough to make a 97 win team all of the sudden look like a bunch of little leaguers. Sounds like when the '83 Sox played Baltimore.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) Gee, maybe the website should be called Sox Silence. Or Sox Ramble.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) They "missed" on James Johnson (mid 1st round) and Teague (28th/29th?). They traded Johnson to Toronto for the right to draft Norris Cole who was traded to Minnesota then Miami. That Minnesota deal was gaining the rights to the #23 pic (Mirotic).
  24. Went to the Park Grill near Millennium Park a few weeks back. Pretty good.
