  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Mike Matheny didn't have any experience. Matheny also doesn't have a passive attitude either. He's a cerebral former catcher with great leadership skills.
  2. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Well Kenny hired Robin after asking Konerko to become a player / manager. Konerko turned him down saying it would be to much to try to do. JR then approved Kenny's decision since he has the final say on positions like that. So if blame needs to be assigned, I assume it goes mainly to Kenny for floating those ideas and then JR for continuing his philosophy of not hiring a manager with previous managerial experience at the major league level since Jeff Torborg in 1989. Mark It's not that there's an issue with no major league experince in managing, it's no experience in managing at all.
  3. The main point in all of this that's missed is that Ventura has no previous coaching experience on any level outside of his kids' teams. Who gets hired to a top level job by any sane/employed person that has zero experience in lower levels to show that they actually know what they're doing?
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/07/l...accountability/ In the first "Lip Service" column, Mark looks at loyalty without accountability in the org. Excellent article. It's like you're speaking my thoughts, Mark.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) 10 teams since 1990 have had fewer playoff appearances then the Sox (I believe): Nats, Rockies, Marlins, Mariners, Orioles, Royals, Mets, Padres, Blue Jays and Rays. On that list, 3 are expansion teams and the list includes 3 world series winners (Blue Jays (1) & Marlins (2)). The Blue Jays have two WS appearances/wins.
  6. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) Well, if this is statistically the 7th worst offense of All Time and yet we have 42-48 record that might indicate that Robin Ventura's doing a pretty darn good job given the talent he has to work with. I'm just sayin'. Unless it's Don Cooper and the pitching staff holding everything up.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Beware the jinx of the Nationals.... Dunn, LaRoche, now we want Desmond? Suppose it would be better than Stephen Drew, Asdrubal, etc., so there's that. Might as well trade Quintana for Strasburg and pray real hard. Heaven forbid that Bryce Harper or Jordan Zimmerman wants to come here.
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Why didn't this happen to the Twins and Tigers? Because the Sox don't hire smart strong managers that hire smart strong assistants. I love Harold Baines as a former-Sox player, but he is not a vocal motivator, nor is he an offensive genius.
  9. Three years til they draft a non pitcher in the first 8 picks of round 1?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) Of course, the White Sox will keep Danks until next August...just the other day, there was yet ather article about swapping the two, Jackson for Danks. Guess that's off the table. Now they can have both! #nopleaseno
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) I went to the Pirates/Brewers game yesterday. I didn't realize Adam Lind was having such a good season. That's who Houston should go after. Also, Sox may be able to dump Alexei on the Pirates since Mercer got hurt. Wishful thinking probably. I had Lind in fantasy for years because he would have surprising production when he'd play. The problem was, that Toronto would jerk him around and not play him or he'd get hurt.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) 2001: 32-26 (.552) 2002: 30-24 (.556) 2003: 29-25 (.537) 2004: 31-30 (.508) 2005: 31-28 (.525) I think you mean since 2006? The early 2000 teams played over .500 ball in August/Sepetmber/October. One to six over .500 is not playing well when you're competing for the division. They slow down and get "tired" arms and malaise quite often. 2005 was 68-35 (.661) April-July.
  13. Reported to have Plantar Fasciitis. Ouch. Can't back-flip his way out of this one.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) I think it's important to note that it's the Dodgers that are desperate for pitching and to shed Puig's contract. By no means are the Sox desperate to move Q which gives them the upper hand in any trade talks involving Q. Again, why would the Sox want a proven head case who's numbers are not all that impressive this year. Also keep in mind who Spiegel works for, The Score. Let's say the Sox are interested in Puig. Due to both the Sox and Dodgers needing to move an outfielder, its likely a third team needs to be brought into the mix in order for it to happen. Not that it could not happen, just adds to the difficulty of the trade. Again, Puig has a s*** attitude and the Dodgers can keep it. If the Dodgers really are desperate to move Puig then trade talks begin with Puig for Samardzija and go from there. No chance I would trade Q for that head case. Just my opinion though. If they're desperate, they should take Q and Danks for Puig.
  15. Shark to Toronto for Pentecost, Smoral, and Nay
  16. Puig for Shark, Micah Johnson, and Montas? Too much?
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) interesting. but after thinking about it, while it is a great idea, i would be hesitant to pull it off. Robertson is an established cl with a track record. Montas will be rookie. then again, how do the sox fill those holes that they are missing. The team is not contending and doesn't need to pay a vet to close. To quote Tyler Perry, "I can do bad all by myself."
  18. Another theory. They're trying out Montas on MLB pitching to see how he holds his own. If he does well, they'll try him out in the closer role and move Robertson to a contender before the deadline.
  19. I think that they'll start pushing his starts back to preserve his arm. The team isn't winning his year, so why risk him? I'd guess he gets around 275 or so.
  20. Called up from AAA as the 26th man for the 7/17 doubleheader vs. Kansas City. - Back to AA at the end of the day.
  21. QUOTE (jblastick @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Ed Farmer really struggles in the booth and when I say struggles I mean struggles to put a complete sentence together. He is the absolute worst and an quite frankly an embarrassment. I can't tell you how many times while I'm listening to the game on my drive home and saying to myself "what the f*ck did he just say?!?" I had my cousin in from San Francisco over the 4th of July weekend (Giants fan) and he commented on how bad he thought Farmer is (unsolicited opinion). If a change has to be made, please let it be Farmer. Not only is he bad he's just weird and creepy. Anybody remember when he was in the Sox dugout in Minnesota after they clinched the division in 2000? He was walking around in Sox uniform pants. Welcome to Soxtalk!
  22. I think that Frank Thomas is getting better and better at doing TV work. I wouldn't be against him as a color guy for the TV broadcasts.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Do you tip appliance delivery guys? What says you Soxtalk? We are having a whole kitchen of appliances delivered tomorrow, but they are only getting put into the corner of the front room for now, so no real extra work needed. Would you tip them? How much? The delivery guys aren't using their own gas, vehicle, or getting paid a lower rate like a waiter. I don't think that you need to tip them.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Hawk will die in the booth (maybe not literally), and I am sure that is the way he wants to go. Until he becomes senile, I doubt the Sox take his job away. Harry Caray made it 10+ years more than where Hawk is now.
  25. Watched R.I.P.D. last night. It was okay. It wasn't as bad as people said. It reminded me a little of a Men In Black ripoff. 2.5 stars out of 5.
