  1. Zhitnik trade to the flyers...I would think that kills the Calder rumors... http://www.newyorkislanders.com/pressbox/archive.asp?id=1247 Freddy Meyer and a conditional 3rd rounder to Islanders.
  2. Any possiblity the Sox are maybe thinking of using Sisco as a starter if they move either Javy or Garland?
  3. As said Gload doesn't see enough time and Sisco can be down right nasty....I like the deal.
  4. O'Dowd: More deals on horizon Jennings trade allows flexibility By Patrick Saunders Denver Post Staff Writer Article Last Updated:12/13/2006 11:33:15 PM MST In exchange for Jennings, above, and pitcher Miguel Asencio, the Rockies received Astros center fielder Willy Taveras and young pitchers Jason Hirsh and Taylor Buchholz. (Post file)The dealing might not be done. A day after the Rockies shipped staff ace Jason Jennings to Houston in exchange for three players, general manager Dan O'Dowd said other moves could be in the works. "We're not done yet," O'Dowd said Wednesday. "We feel like we've improved our team, but doing this trade also puts us in a position to be flexible and make some moves if we think they'll help us." In exchange for Jennings and pitcher Miguel Asencio, the Rockies received Astros center fielder Willy Taveras and young pitchers Jason Hirsh and Taylor Buchholz. Taveras, who batted .278 and stole 33 bases last season, gives the Rockies much-needed speed in the outfield and on the basepaths. However, Taveras doesn't hit for power, swatting just one homer last season. If the right deal pops up, Taveras could be part of it. The White Sox, for instance, desperately need a speedy leadoff hitter and might be willing to shop center fielder Brian Anderson, but O'Dowd said the Rockies aren't interested. "We like him as a player, and although we do have interest in a center fielder, one in particular, he's not the guy," he said. O'Dowd didn't say who that player is, but the Rockies have had previous interest in Tampa Bay's Rocco Baldelli, who hit .302 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs in 92 games last season. Tampa Bay is loaded with young outfielders, so Baldelli might be available. If no trade is made, O'Dowd will still be a happy GM, because he's excited about Taveras' potential. "I knew Willy when I was in Cleveland and he was just a young kid," O'Dowd said. "He's still young (Taveras turns 25 on Christmas) and can keep improving. He's got a good arm, but he needs to take better angles to the ball." O'Dowd says Taveras has the potential to hit 30 to 40 doubles, 15 triples and score 100 runs. "If he turns it on, he can be a tremendous player and add a new dimension to our team," O'Dowd said. Pitching in It's no secret the Rockies would like to add another starting pitcher - they have about $4 million in their budget - but they are not likely to shop the free-agent market to get him. "If we get another pitcher, it would probably be through a trade," O'Dowd said. "We just don't see that much out there for us with the free agents that are left." Free-agent pitchers such as Mark Redman and John Thomson would fit into the Rockies' budget, but agents for those pitchers said they have not been contacted by Colorado. Footnotes The Rockies officially completed a one-year, $1.075 million deal with catcher Yorvit Torrealba on Wednesday. ... Left-handed reliever Tom Martin signed a one-year deal with the Rockies and the club also signed a minor-league deal with left-handed reliever Mike Gallo. ... P.J. Carey, who has managed the Casper Rockies for five of the past six seasons, has resigned to take a job with the Dodgers. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
  5. Hawks looked pretty good tonight except for a few gaffes with turnovers. Hasek was standing on his head as always. I agree Havlat still seem bothered by the ankle a bit.
  6. Goes to show you how much the Hawks are hurting for people to show up eh?
  7. I say Bye Bye Vandy and hello Prospal and Barker/Buf come on up...then Swing Aucoin to Philly and welcome back Calder....Hawks would be in pretty good shape there.
  8. The Chicago Blackhawks brought in sniper Peter Bondra this week to add some scoring punch to the lineup, but that doesn't mean their finished making changes. Various reports have suggested the Hawks have been eyeing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vaclav Prospal for weeks. The Lightning have gone 1-5-1 in their last seven games and are now one game under the .500 mark. According to the Tampa Tribune, former Lightning GM Rick Dudley, now with Chicago as their Assistant GM, was at last night's game along with Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon. Prospal, 31, is fifth in team scoring with three goals and 15 assists for 18 points.
  9. Man someone woke these guys up.. just in time too.
  10. Hawks are looking flat. Blues are blocking a ton of shots. Bondra...Peter Bondra...ties it with a 5 on 3 PP goal!!! # 499! The Vrbata with another PP goal! 2 -1 Hawks!
  11. How about Belinda Carlisle? I always liked her voice. Also going back a bit Connie Francis.
  12. Seen this on Stuy's board... Bill Clement apparently, tonight on whatever show he has on XM, said Vandy is headed back to Philly to play for his old minor league coach, Stevens. It's apparently a 1 for 1 in exchange for Calder...I sure hope this is only rumor and speculation, not reality. Maybe someone that has XM and heard the whole show can report more.
  13. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston & Cristina Aguilera. They all have great voices....I guess these could go under the guilty pleasures as well lol.
  14. Sox retain control of Crede, but future iffy Third baseman still could be traded away By Mark Gonzales Tribune staff reporter December 11, 2006, 7:49 PM CST Offering a contract is the easy part for the White Sox. The tough part begins soon and could last until a salary-arbitration hearing in February if the Sox and representatives for third baseman Joe Crede can't agree on a one-year deal. There's always the possibility the Sox could deal Crede, who had an All-Star-caliber season in 2006. For now, however, the Sox will tender offers to Crede and utility infielder Alex Cintron by Tuesday's deadline, which is all they need to do to retain their rights. The Sox's current cash obligations are about $85.5 million for 15 players for 2007. That gives them enough room to field a 25-man roster under the $100 million mark—unless they add a marquee player and hang on to Crede. Crede, with more than four years of service time, should receive an offer that exceeds the $3.8 million Astros third baseman Morgan Ensberg was paid in 2006 after he had a career year in 2005. He could receive more than the $4.75 million that Rangers third baseman Hank Blalock is due in 2007. The Tigers' Brandon Inge, who has about one more year of service time than Crede, recently signed a four-year, $24 million contract that will pay him $4.9 million in 2007. Since the end of the 2006 season, the Sox have agreed to terms with four arbitration-eligible players: left fielder Scott Podsednik ($2.9 million), reliever Mike MacDougal (three years, $6.45 million), infielder Pablo Ozuna ($800,000) and outfielder/first baseman Ross Gload ($625,000). They avoided another negotiation last month by trading left-handed reliever Neal Cotts to the Cubs. Cintron, who turns 28 on Sunday, should receive a decent raise from his $1.6 million salary in 2006. The switch-hitting Cintron batted .285 in 91 games, and the Sox were 38-28 with him in the starting lineup. "We've had good discussions, but there's still a bit of a difference," agent Brian David said. Cintron is the Sox's only true backup shortstop but isn't eligible for free agency until 2009. The stakes, however, are greater for the Sox and Crede. Special assistant Dennis Gilbert handled talks with agent Scott Boras last winter and negotiated a $2.675 million contract two weeks before arbitration hearings started. The Sox are hesitant to discuss a multiyear contract with Crede, who is recovering from lower back problems that didn't require off-season surgery. But there are serious financial ramifications for the Sox. Crede, 28, set career highs in batting average (.283), hits (154), doubles (31), home runs (30), RBIs (94) and runs (76). He ranked third among AL third basemen in homers, RBIs, slugging percentage (.506) and extra-base hits (46) and had a personal-best .978 fielding percentage. That may be one of several selling points Boras uses if negotiations reach arbitration. General manager Ken Williams said last month that this year's off-season signings should have no affect on arbitration-eligible players. But Crede is eligible to become a free agent in 2009, and the emergence of 2004 first-round pick Josh Fields as a potential replacement gives the Sox more to ponder. [email protected]
  15. Jose Mesa, RHRP--Colorado Rockies: He is set to sign a 1-year, $2.5M deal with the Tigers. The Rockies had offered a 1-year, $1M deal for him to re-sign and MLB.com had reported the Marlins were interested, though they had previously denied interest. 16. I am thinking the line will be Bondra/Ruutu/Havlat pushing Vrbata to line two with Smoke and more than likely Borque when he comes back. Bondra played with Havlat and Smoke in Ottawa so I don't think he will have to worry about building chemistry with those guys....
  17. The Hawks were extremely lucky to get a point out of this game....as was stated Minny hit a minimium of 6 posts. Boucher was terrible and all the stupid penelties. Havlat is amazing BTW. Wiz was knocking people off the puck quite a bit and seemed to be in the right spots. I am very impressed thus far with him. He has filled in nicely for Augroin and should help ship him out. As for Cullimore hopefully a team will see his recent play and take a shot on him. I heard rumor that Philly might be interested in Culli and Boucher...I would assume for Calder and possibly something else. One could hope at least.
  18. Boucher was awful and the stupid penelties were killing them. I have to say Cullimore has been playing a lot better of late....hopefully that will help in dealing him away.
  19. Havlat comes back like he hasn't missed a beat... great to see. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) It no longer exists I guess I would have known that if I would have bothered to read part of this thread...sheesh. Seen this and thought it was worth sharing...it wouldn't be the worst idea. Source: Ron MacLean just now on Hockey Night in Canada's Hot Stove segment. Stated Bondra in talks with Chicago, could be very close to signing with them!
