QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) No. He's not going to be a savior, aka be at the level of a crosby/ovechkin/kovalchuk, etc. He could be a really really good 2nd line player. Maybe if healthy he's a first line player, but he's not going to be a superstar. That being said, he's a player that i want on the hawks. Reminds me of Roenick with his physical aspect and love for the game. He's a guy i want wearing the indian head. Just imagine what he could do if he actually had some talent around him.... -
They have me hooked...It was very sweet how Sawyer played them. Charlie is looking more and more like a crackhead.....

A possible deal in the works with Boston.... Here's the trade as reported on Spectors: BOSTON GLOBE: Kevin Paul Dupont reports a Chicago radio station "floated the notion" that the Bruins might ship struggling goaltender Andrew Raycroft and forward Sergei Samsonov to the Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Tyler Arnason and Mark Bell. Dupont noted Samsonov has a "strong connection" with Blackhawks director of player personnel Rick Dudley, who brought Samsonov to the IHL Detroit Vipers back in 1996 and formed a fast friendship with the Russian winger, and that might mean Dudley could be lobbying 'Hawks management to acquire Samsonov and then hopefully re-sign him this summer. -
I think Toronto could be a good potential trading partner...see if they would be willing to deal Vernon Wells...not likely but hell why not try.

The Blackhawks have acquired Finnish forward Tony Salmelainen from Edmonton in exchange for D Jaroslav Spacek. Salmelainen will remain in Finland. D Danny Richmond has been recalled and will play tonight vs. Calgary. Blackhawks Acquire Salmelainen For Spacek Chicago Blackhawks Press Release January 26, 2006 Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have traded defenseman Jaroslav Spacek to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for left wing Tony Salmelainen. “We are continuing to make changes and adapting to a new style of play,” said Tallon. “We’re trying to get more skill and speed in our lineup. Salmelainen possesses breakaway speed and has great offensive ability.” Salmelainen, 24, was the 3rd choice (41st overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. A teammate of current Blackhawk Tuomo Ruutu in their early playing years in Finland, Salmelainen has been playing for HIFK in Finland this season where he has appeared in 41 games scoring 22 goals while adding 19 assists for 41 points with 30 penalty minutes and a +18 rating. His 41 points currently lead the Finnish League in scoring. Salemlainen played in 13 NHL games for the Edmonton Oilers during the 2003-04 season recording 1 assist with 4 penalty minutes. Last season, he played for Edmonton in the American Hockey League and had 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points in 76 games. Spacek was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on August 4, 2005. It was his second tour of duty with the Blackhawks. He had also played for the Blackhawks parts of the 2000-01 season after being acquired from Florida and 2001-02 season before being traded to Columbus. The 31-year-old defenseman appeared in 45 games for the Blackhawks this season scoring 7 goals while adding 17 assists for 24 points with 72 minutes in penalties. In his NHL career with Florida, the Blackhawks, and Columbus Spacek appeared in 465 games scoring 46 goals and adding 140 assists for 186 points with 349 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 4 career playoff games and has not scored. -

Sun, January 22, 2006 Hawks not very Khab-by By BRUCE GARRIOCH, OTTAWA SUN BRUCE.GARRIOCH -- Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon is getting an itchy finger and don't be surprised if he makes a deal involving G Nikolai Khabibulin, who has been a bust in Chicago. Khabibulin, who backstopped the Lightning to a Stanley Cup title in 2003-04, was considered the free-agent prize among goalies once the NHL lockout was settled. Khabibulin signed a four-year, $27-million (all terms US) deal ($6.75 million a season) in August with Chicago -- a contract Tallon would now like to rid himself of. There's talk the Hawks are working on a deal to send Khabibulin to the Oilers. Yes, the Oilers have targeted Washington's Olaf Kolzig and Khabibulin hasn't played well, but Khabibulin might be better if he had a decent team in front of him. The fact the Hawks are awful has only made the situation worse for Khabibulin in the Windy City. Naturally, Chicago would have to take G Ty Conklin as part of a package in return, but Edmonton might be a nice fit for Khabibulin to get back on track and the club has the cap room to make the deal happen ... It's looking like Caps F Alexander Ovechkin is going to bring home the hardware this spring. He's taken the lead in the NHL's rookie-of-the-year race over Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and there's even whispers he should be a candidate for the Hart Trophy as the NHL's MVP ... The NHL will announce tomorrow Dallas is getting the 2007 all-star game. AROUND THE BOARDS: The Panthers are going to have to get by without top LW Gary Roberts until after the Olympic break. He's out with a knee injury he suffered in a collision with teammate Sean Hill ... New Jersey G Martin Brodeur is after the officials. He wasn't happy that Nashville C Vernon Fiddler crashed the net Friday and there was no call because the referees decided it was incidental contact. "(That) was as bad a call as they could make," said Brodeur. "I have never heard of incidental contact in my crease. That was as bad a call as they could make." ... The Islanders have interviewed John Weisbrod, a former NBA and NHL executive, for the GM's job left vacant by Mike Milbury's firing. Indications are Weisbrod would like to bring back former Isles coach Peter Laviolette as the club's player personnel director and bench boss. Laviolette, who is doing a great job behind the Carolina bench, is a free agent at the end of the season. Red Deer coach and GM Brent Sutter and Vancouver assistant GM Steve Tambellini are top candidates for the job. Look for Senators assistant GM Peter Chiarelli to get an interview ... Columbus GM Doug MacLean sent word through an NHL executive last week that he's not getting fired and he expects to sign a contract extension ... There's a lot of talk Leafs D Bryan McCabe won't be ready for the Olympics. Tampa's Dan Boyle, Calgary's Dion Phaneuf, San Jose's Scott Hannan and Florida's Jay Bouwmeester are being considered as possible replacements. RUMOURS DU JOUR: Is the dismantling of the Coyotes under way? The club sent underachieving C Petr Nedved packing to the Flyers on Friday, and that could just be the beginning. Once the dust has settled with the club's ownership group, expect to see C Mike Comrie and G Curtis Joseph shipped out ... The Hawks are also looking to move C Tyler Arnanson. The club has plenty of young players coming along and don't be surprised if the Senators are in on those sweepstakes. The word is Minny is trying to make a pitch ... Is Minny G Dwayne Roloson going to be dealt to the Canucks? That one won't go away, but the Avs remain a strong possibility ... Speaking of the Wild, it's interested in Tampa C Brad Richards -- as are the the Predators. Wild GM Doug Risebrough badly wants a No. 1 centre and it's a forgone conclusion the Bolts aren't going to be able to keep Richards next season after signing C Vincent Lecavalier and RW Martin St. Louis to long-term contracts. Perhaps, the Lightning will get G Manny Fernandez in return ... Not only are the Blues going to shed the salary of C Doug Weight by the trade deadline, they're also going to move LW Keith Tkachuk ... Plenty of talk Pittsburgh GM Craig Patrick will take over the Bruins next season ... Talks to get C Olli Jokinen signed in Florida will heat up in the next 10 days. If doesn't sign a new contract, he'll be dealt and the Flames are the No. 1 contender. -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 08:05 AM) Sounds like Zito is just a bit of a jerk. Why would Seagal fight him in a nightclub? Anybody who has ever spent anytime in Martial Arts would know that Seagal would just walk away. You don't fight in public, it's that simple. The Gracie brothers (and their cousins) would, as would a few of the nuts I know who work in a street fighting style, but they do it to learn their craft. But a traditional stylist, such as Seagal, would never fight. Bruce Lee used to accept challenges, but only when people would walk into his school. A bunch of these were actually filmed. Obviously all of the fights last about 5 seconds from what I have been told. I'm also sure the Hell's Angels has a few wusses in their club. Actually as the story goes as I remember, Seagal was talking s*** about several people that hang out with Chuck Norris and they supposedly call themselves the "Dirty dozen" anyway, I guess Seagal came into the night club and Zito was alerted to the fact he was there and went and confronted Seagal about it and challeneged him to a fight and Seagal wouldn't. Also, I am quite certain every gang has a fair share of wussies in them.. hench why a lot of the gangs begin in the first place. Not being tough enough to defend yourself, so I will get 20 guys who can for me....IMO. Given some of them are hard f***ing core and would tear some s*** up..Zito is certainly not one that needs back up.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) There was a story a few years ago about how Chcuk Zito beat the hell out of VanDamme in a NY club. It was like 3 punches and VanDamme was down and out. Zito also called Steven Segal out at a NY nightclub and Segal wouldn't do anything..... Zito is a serious bad ass.... he has been with the Hells Angels for over 20 years now....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) What they don't tell you is that any team formed during this event gets a tryout with the Blackhawks... I already had my tryout and couldn't make the team... tells you about my playing abilities eh?? -

My thought on Yawney is why bother replacing him anyway... Who will take his place and who can do a better job with what he has to work with anyway?? You could have Scotty Bowman coaching this team and not get much more out of it anyway.....IMO
