  1. Cubs already getting under Sox' skin March 18, 2004 BY MIKE KILEY Staff Writer Advertisement SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Bad blood already is building between the Cubs and White Sox, who will meet for the second time this spring Friday in Tucson. Cubs outfielder Nic Jackson reacted Wednesday to Sox second baseman Willie Harris' complaints about the way Jackson slid late into second on a force play Saturday in Mesa. He advised Harris to cool it. ''There was no malicious intent at all, and he took it the wrong way,'' Jackson said. ''So be it. Everybody is trying to do the same thing. We are all trying to make the team. It wasn't malicious. ''It's kind of funny that it's been built up the way it has been. It's really immature, but so be it. To me, it's over.'' Told of Jackson's remarks, Harris said: ''It sounds like he's all about himself as far as him saying I should relax. He should relax. It's a force play. But he came straight through the base, spikes up. If I wouldn't have felt him there, who knows what would have happened? ''If it was Alex Gonzalez, he wouldn't have done that, but I understand he's trying to make a team.'' Cubs manager Dusty Baker agreed that Jackson slid late in a two-out situation that didn't call for a takeout slide to avoid a double play. But Baker said Jackson was trying to be aggressive, not dirty. ''Nic wasn't right,'' Baker said. ''He slid too late. He wasn't trying to take him out. Here's a kid out of Triple-A trying to make the club, and Willie needs to realize this is a very young player. The kid wasn't trying to do it.'' Harris said he would have been less upset if it had been a double-play situation. ''But what he did was so uncalled for,'' Harris said. ''In the regular season, guys don't even do that.'' The Sox responded by hitting Jackson with a pitch and made no secret of their intent. Was Jackson surprised? ''Well, maybe a little bit,'' he said. ''If it was on purpose, it was on purpose. So be it. It was a 1-2 pitch, so I didn't think it was on purpose at the time.'' Jackson is having a good spring but is expected to start the season at Class AAA Iowa. Depending on whether the Cubs re-sign left fielder Moises Alou for 2005, Jackson will be among the contenders for that job next year. ''I have had some injuries in the past, but they were kind of freak injuries,'' Jackson said. ''It's not something I think is going to happen over and over. So I'm really looking forward to this year and seeing if I can help out a little bit.'' Contributing: Doug Padilla
  2. I was looking up Washburn and Ortiz. If this is up to date on ESPN. Ortiz makes 2.2 million and Washburn makes 3.85 million.
  3. Hopefully Maggs will see that the money just isn't out there and really wants to come back to the Sox. If the Sox can get him to sign for $12M would be great.
  4. Take it easy there killer... its only spring training.
  5. Thing I wouldn't mind seeing is if KW could work it to get Ortiz and Kennedy for 2B. That would make all the difference for this team me thinks.
  6. I would bet the Angels would trade Ortiz b4 they trade Washburn. Washburn is their only leftie.
  7. Its not likely the Hawks would have won. They are fielding pretty much an AHL team. I would be surprised if the Hawks could beat the Wolves right now.
  8. Its amazing how early everyone was saying he is unhittable... makes you wonder. Either they were just saying that about him or he isn't showing all he truely has to offer in ST. Which I hope for the latter.
  9. Ohh sure Cheat make it easy on everyone... sheesh. LoL
  10. Well like its been said... its only ST and he is still working on his pitches... lets hope this ins't an indication of whats to come. If it is hopefully KW will pull a deal to get a good starter in here.
  11. Seems like Schoney, Takatsu and Jackson all got hit hard today. Nice to see PK and Olivo hit well today though.

  17. Yahoo shows it end of 3rd Sox are trailing 3 -0 now.
  18. Who is pitching for us and the A's?? I know we are down 2 - 0 bottom of the 3rd according to Yahoo.
  19. I will be shocked if Bud gets up the balls to tell the union its going to happen even if they don't like it. I hope he does this though.
  20. Ummmm Errrrrr I don't know what youre talking about hehehe.
  21. Pitt would never swing that trade for Paulie. Pitt is trying to cut payroll not add it.
  22. Rauch or Borchard, I would be fine with. Not Reed though. KW would be hanged for that. I say go for Washburn, but we have heard this crap all off season though. So I am not holding my breath.
  23. And who was worried????? Not me... no way hehee
  24. If Salaam signs I bet the Bears cut Columbo. He has been talking of retirement anyway. His knee injury is very bad and isn't healing like they thought it would.
  25. Maybe it is, I wasn't sure though. Sorry if it is.
