Rob Neyer: Babe Ruth the Best Ballplayer Ever
EvilJester99 replied to C.Rector's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You may be right on that, but I am not sure as well. I forgot back in those days pitchers could actually play even when they didn't have to pitch. Either way I think Babe is the greatest of all time. -
Rob Neyer: Babe Ruth the Best Ballplayer Ever

I ask this about The Babe as well. Imagine how many homers he would have hit if he wasn't a pitcher for his first 5 years?? He only hit every 4th day or 5th day. Just think about if he hit everyday. He probably would have hit over 1000 hrs. Noone would touch him. IMO -
260?? Geez and people thought Colon was a tub of goo. Hopefully he can actually make some kind of impact with this team. You can never have too many pitchers.
-
I think the Yanks spend so much, is because they can. Unlike our management team they know how to spend money and draw tons of interest.
-
I believe it will be Rauch or Cotts as your #5. Unless they pull a deal that is. Diaz may get a chance as long relief. I hear Diaz has damn good stuff though.
-
As I said, I couldn't find anything about it in USA Today as Tom Shear said it was quoted in. Go figure...Prolly a bunch of BS anyway. You can't blame Frank if he does want out though.
-
I actually heard it earlier this morning as well. Tom Shear did say it. Supposedly it is quoted in the USA today but I have yet to find it. So take that for what its worth I guess.
-
Typical of the Sox front office and oohhh so typical of Frank. Same ol same ol as far as Im concerned. Hopefully, the Sox can still make the deal without getting hosed now.
-
Ok take this for what its worth...which isn't much because Jose is still here and Detoilet has Guillen. CG - 6 years in the league. 369GP, 3021 innings, 44 errors, .969 FPct, 4.09 RF JV - 12yrs. 1093GP, 9032 innings, 214 errors, .958 FPct, 4.82RF Juan Uribe - 3 yrs. 298 GP, 2509 inns, 43 Errors, .971 FPct, 5.18RF. Now with these #'s if they continued at this pace I would see CG and JV very close. Juan Uribe has better range factor but makes a ton more errors...Joy for when he takes over..NOT!! I suppose the advantage has to go to Jose for power...just get him to not hit right handed anymore. He is a guarenteed out everytime hitting righty. I am just sick of seeing Valentin making errors at the most untimely moments in a game. Now mind you I am not much of a stat monger. Stats don't tell the whole story in my world. All for naught though cause we have Jose for this year anyway.

I wonder does anyone think this Arod deal will spur some sort of deal for the Sox? Like BoSox calling about Mags again to try and even out with the Yanks. Or now that the sale and GM search are final in LA, they will deal O Perez now. Just thinking aloud as I watch the Sox "Watch the paint dry" as you said.
-
Yeah after I read my own question... I was thinking it was do to you have ST... Jester is a blonde so it comes easily to be a dope lol
-
Steff, I take it you somehow work for the Sox in some capacity or another? Or do you know someone who does....just curious is all.
-
As it was said b4... The rich keep getting richer.
-
Oh yeah I am equally excited about Juan Uribe as our SS.
-
Well with Guillen you wouldn't have better power but you would improve the defense. Jose is horrible defensively. He has good range but makes way too many errors. Plus isn't Jose well over 30?? So CG would be younger. Also as for CG being a FA next year isn't Jose going to be a FA also next year? So you would have to try and resign one or the other. Which would you take?
-
aren't ....instead of are as great. sorry bout the typo
-
Israel, I totally agree that I don't think the Cubs are as great as most are giving credit for. They finally have a good season and all of a sudden they are the greatest team ever. I don't think so. For all the reasons you pointed out and there are others. Do you think Sammy will be as effective now since he can't use the juice or a loaded bat?? Hell no.
-
I believe ESPN is reporting Bud as approved the deal. So it seems its a done deal now.
-
Well as I see it, I would be willing to deal some prospect to be able to win today. No I wouldn't rape the farms for this but would deal a few. Prospects are just that and noone can be sure if they will make it in the bigs anyway.
-
I don't think we as Sox fans will ever get lucky enough to have JR sell the team.
-
How long do you think b4 Ryan Wing will be ready?
-
Irish, If the Sox would have let Valentin walk and then did what the Tigers did and made a sweet small trade to aquire Carlos Guillen. The Sox would have been way ahead. I would much rather have CG than Jose. Plus CG is half the price of Jose.
-
Even if KW spent money a bit more wise, this team can not keep up with the ATM machine that is the Yanks. Only thing we can hope for is that the farm teams the Sox have can bring in some good talent. Only problem with that is the Sox are notorious with refusing to pay them and keeping them. ie what will happen with Mags. such is life I guess.
-
This is very true...wasting that 5 million on Jose....could that money be spent in a more stupid manner??? He is a waste.
-
Exactly why I hate those fargin Yankmees. They try to buy everyone and everything....or is it that I am jealous the Sox can't and won't do the same...hell who cares. It all the more reason to hate the Yankees lol
