i doubt maggs would come back if we traded him at the deadline although it would be amazing. i guess well have to see how it plays out and if KW could pull something off like this then i would be very surprised
-
well all i know is we gotta a lot of draft picks this year
-
If I had the choice, I would take neither. My starting 1B and 2B would have been Daubach and Jimenez/Harris.
Just as a hypothetical here to everyone...what if the Konerko for Ortiz trade last year goes through? I would assume we don't get Colon(maybe a wrong assumption...maybe we make the deal still because we still have money, then maybe Loaiza takes over the #5 and he breaks out and we have a rotation of Loaiza, Colon, Buehrle, Ortiz, Garland, being the best in the AL, and we all live happily ever after). Would have been a wacky team and I would say probably would have been the best in the AL, even better then Boston and New York.
to bad we didnt trade for ortiz. i would be in heaven right now if our rotation was nearly as close to as good as that one sounds

My only thought would be that he has only done it for one year and his career as a whole is just picking up. You can't compare him to a Smoltz or a Rivera based on teh years they have been doing it.
smoltz hasnt been doing it as long as rivera has been.
-
the question is will he have another solid year?

ya the red and orange also had me confused last night

This is why I'm giving KW a semi-pass on this off-season... He had a ton of large contracts (I know some were his own doing, but now it's a different market)
There's a possibility KW could leverage all his free space under the Sox imposed cap (which should be about 30m, not counting anything they may get from the new cable station) into a solid off-season next year... I think sticking with what has now, which I believe could still win this horrible division, is better than making stupid trades and getting big money contracts back (ie, the rumored Erstad deal)..
good point saving the money for next year would definetly be more worth it.

this might put detroit over the top to win the eastern conference. solid trade by detroit

jose shouldnt get much more then 4 million a year anyways unless he steps it up this year.

I'm not sold on St. Joe's yet, but I'm sold on Nelson. The guy is amazing.
i agree this guy is just a stud. he makes his whole team better.

My take on the cubs is this. They made some moves this offseason some were very newsworthy but none were all that earthshaking.
They have 7 everyday players which may strikeout over 120 times (Patterson, Sosa, Ramirez, Gonzo, Lee and Barrett) plus the pitchers spot. I can honestly see them averaging about 9 a game. What will that do when the wind is blowing in and they need to move runners over?
Their rotation is better than good but not great. I think Oakland's is great. This assumes no injuries. They had four guys lose double digit games and were all healthy. Zambrano and Clement were terrible at the end of the season. What makes anyone thinks they were not flukes. Maddux was a six inning pitcher last year what will he be this year? Andrew Jones catches everything in center, the cub defense is not that great. What happens after Ramirez launches one into the dugout four times in a game and K's four times? Wood has never won more than 14 games in a year and has flashes of brillance but can breakdown and be wild. Prior......well he is just plain awesome.
Their bullpen. The old lefty is old. Borowski may have been a flash in the pan and he is old and hawkins and Farnsworth are capable of cracking under the pressure. There is a reason the Yanks went with Gordon over Hawkins and it wasn't money.
Are the cubs better than the Sox, I am not as naive to say no but I do not think they are all they are cracked up to be especially when I feel the Astros rotation is better.
IMHO
i think the astros rotation is much better then the cubs because of the influence and experience that pettite and clemens will have on there other pitchers such as oswalt and miller.

i think i would take Oaklands rotation. They are tremendous as long as the big three (Mulder, Hudson, and Zito) aren't hurt.

i was watching around the horn today and the last question was who do u think would win between Duke and St. Joes if they went head to head. personally i think duke would win because they are 5-1 against ranked teams and St. Joes is 1-0 against ranked teams. Also Duke has a much harder schedule then St. Joes. I dk what do u guys think?

How about St. Louis
K. Robinson
Renteria
Pujols
Edmonds
Rolen
Sanders
Houston?
Biggio
Ensberg
Bagwell
Kent
Berkman
Hidalgo
Braves?
Furcal
Giles
Jones
Jones
J.D. Drew
Phillies?
Byrd
Rollins
Thome
Burrell
Abreu
Liberthal
Palanco
Bell
There are a few NL lineups that are pretty damn good
the phillies have a solid lineup plus they have like 4 all star caliber pitchers in millwood, wolf, padilla, and milton. as for the cubs when are they ever going to get a solid catcher.
-
gagne should have won this case. hes easily worth 8 million dollars after becoming the first reliever in a long time to win a cy young.
-
I think the Dodgers or the Bosox have the best chance at maggs, as much as i would love him to stay i doubt he will.
-
I think the sox should go after renteria. He puts up solid numbers and wouldnt be as much as nomar. I would rather see renteria come to town then cabrera.
-
ahh im so sick of waiting for baseball season. Im so pumped for this year
-
I take Oakland first as long as they have a healthy Zito, Mulder and Hudson.
i agree i would take Oakland over all of these staffs.
-
wow payton went tyson on claxton. The glove always given it his all on defense
-
what is happening to the ncaa. its also not a surprise that barnet got placed on administrative leave.
-
i didnt even think of that...harris or jose against lefties???...ouch
that does hurt. jose is just sickening from the right side.
-
solid article. i love it when people show there hate for the cubs and there love for the sox.
:fthecubs

im not to sure the illini will win big here. If they win it will be a close one but i think wisconson has the upper hand
Where can Maggs go realistically aftre this year?

cubs definetly have a shaky offense no doubt about it. thats why i dont think they will win it all.
