We have to keep in mind that no one knows what the actual offers have been...aside from the Sox and Machado of course. Regardless, he's going to want more than $200M over 7 years. If it ends up being a 7-year deal, the total money will have to be closer to $250M.

I've seen some posts with future lineups including Machado and Harper, and as much as I like that idea, how realistic is it? Provided the Sox sign Machado, what other moves should they make if not Harper? Would adding Pollack make any sense at this point since Jay was signed? Another starter would be great along with a little more bullpen help.
-
That's good to hear. I'm wondering if Machado's camp told the Yankees that if they can't offer X amount that they're out of the running or if the Yankees decided the cost was too high to pursue him? Either way, things are looking better today.

Lots of smoke toward the end of the day yesterday. Who knows how much of it is true. The "Yankees are still in it" talk seems a little weak. I'm thinking they truly are out of it. Sox need to offer the most money, that's it. Get him signed and then make a couple more moves. Then this team is a lot better going into 2019.
-
True. I should have elaborated. There was a positive air yesterday that this could be coming to an end and that Machado was going to end up signing for less than 10 years and less than $300M. Heyman's tweet makes it seem like there's been no movement from anyone on getting him. Like I said, it could all be BS based on guesses and wishes.
-
I don't know how much I believe Heyman's tweet about Machado still waiting on $300M. Most of what we've heard recently is that the offers are less than 10 years and somewhere in the $200M to $250M range. Of course it could all be bullshit. Who knows. I just hope this is over soon.

I heard he's a good ball player and is looking to play with a team. Apparently some decent money is being discussed.

Sox. Announced late tomorrow morning.

Okay, for psychos on Twitter and on a message board

Silly raBBit, teasing is for a bunch of news-hungry psychos on a message board

I would hope the Sox step up and add the 8th year to get it done if that's the case.

Very accurate re-cap. -
Maybe because of the Jay signing, but I expect some more smoke today.

Sox Sign Jon Jay; 1 year/$4 mil, Charlie Tilson DFA'd

For all we know, the Sox and Machado are deep in negotiations and he's excited about having a team built around him, but he's asking for some friends/family to be a part of the team in 2019. We, as fans, know that even with the addition of Machado this team needs more in 2019 to a bit more competitive. Jon Jay, albeit not exciting at all, is an upgrade over Engel. And it's $4M, that's not a big deal. It sounds strange that the Sox would acquire these guys (Alonso, Jay) on short deals when they are somewhat redundant, but if it helps to get Machado signed who cares? -
It's truly beginning to sound like there are no 10-year deals out there for Machado, and the Sox may have the strongest offer right now. A 7-year deal at $30M-$35M per would be great.

Let's hope the Yankees don't call a timeout and screw everything up.
-
Maybe this will be the week when something actually happens.
-
He’s signing with the Phillies as we speak.
-
Keep in mind the Bears are playing Philadelphia. ?
-
I could see a 7 year deal with options after. Maybe potential 10 year total at $320M or so.

In regards to landing both Harper and Machado, I would think the chances are pretty low. Not "so you're saying there's a chance" low, but low nonetheless. However, if the Sox were willing to spend the money, it would probably be enticing for either guy to play for a team the other is playing on. The interest for Harper to sign with the Sox would probably increase if they sign Machado (and vice versa). And the Sox have the money. They could sign both and grab Ottavino and add $80M to the payroll...and their payroll would still be relatively low for 2019. I honestly don't see it happening. I think the more likely scenario is that they sign one and stop pursuing the other. I think Machado signs first, and there's a decent chance he signs with the Sox. However, if he signs elsewhere, the Sox will go hard after Harper.

I can already see what will happen. There will be spikes of supposed activity that will result in a flurry of tweets and posts. Then, one day when we're bored and nothing is seemingly going on he'll sign. SoxTalk will lock up, shouts (good or bad) will be bellowed, computers will be hugged (or punched), and we'll all madly search for one of previous posts to share and say, "see, I told you guys this would happen!"
-
Yeah, signing Machado does a lot for this team, but if (and when) it happens, I can't wait to see the meltdowns by New Yorkers and the media.

What new rumor today will spring an explosion of posts? Will we be more optimistic today, or will we be ready to punch a computer screen?
