  1. The Terror is coming to AMC in March. Really looking forward to that.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Not trying to flame (you see I've been quiet lately), but your two sentences got me thinking. I wonder how many players you can say that about in terms of "regression." There will be regression? Hmmm. ... I'd say of all the players who hit over .320 and hit 25-35 home runs you can expect regression next season. Why do we rate our own so harshly? Anybody who had a GREAT season, expect regression. Give me a percentage. 80 percent of all guys expect regression? Don't eat your own. Regression with Garcia is expected because up until last season he did not perform nearly that well nor consistently. I wouldn't expect a big regression because I do think he's figured some things out and was in better shape. He could, however, surprise us all and have another great year building off last year's success.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Please tweet, please tweet.... I would imagine his phone has been taken away.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) In terms of full disclosure, I would love to see Jose be a lifetime White Sox. He represents everything that you want in a face of the franchise type of player. And he has expressed interest in playing for the White Sox for his career. I really like the idea of a 4-5 year extension, and I believe that he'd take a little less money to stay. I wouldn't argue against $20-$22 million a year average.
  5. Unless Hahn is blown away with a proposal for Abreu, he should remain with the Sox and be extended so he'd be around for the competitive years. I think Avi could be traded for a decent package now after last year's performance, and he doesn't fit as well with the plans going forward as Abreu does. I obviously voted for Avi, but if the Sox get a haul for Abreu I would understand.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) This explains my position pretty perfectly as it stands today. By trading Abreu and Avi, this thread is worthless. It means Hahn is pushing back the years of contention (in theory) as he waits for the kids to completely overhaul the everyday lineup and pitching rotation. Presumably add some vets through free agency to that 3-4 years down the road. I have a sneaky feeling they'll be bargain type veterans, taking a shot on some relievers who don't make a lot of cash. I'm assuming our payroll is going to be mighty low for some time to come. We shall see. I don't think trading Garcia affects anything the Sox have planned. They have quite a few promising outfield prospects that could be patrolling the outfield for years. They might have to look for a veteran to play a year or so, but that's about it. Trading Abreu has some effects, but if the right deal comes along I'm sure the Sox have a contingency plan for 1st base. As far as the payroll, I think you're going to be surprised. The Sox will spend next off season, and they will be pursuing the likes of Machado and Harper.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) I’d give Abreu something like 4/$80M with a 5th year team option and call it a day. He can anchor the middle of the lineup for a big chunk of our window, serve as mentor for Moncada, Robert, & other young LatAm players, improve our sales pitch to free agents next offseason, & further establish our status as the team to sign with for future Cuban amateurs (which becomes important with capped spending). All those factors combined make him worth more to us than other teams IMO. This is what I've been thinking, too. I'm not sure he'd take an offer like that, but he has expressed wanting to play for the Sox for many years. I could see boosting those numbers a bit, and if he agrees it's a great deal for the Sox and a pretty good deal for him. If not, then the Sox could look to trade for the best deal possible. Personally I'd feel better about having him anchoring the lineup for the years when we're contending while mentoring all the young 'uns.
  8. I would be much more upset about Abreu being traded than any of the guys traded last year. However, I understand that as his current contract stands, he wouldn't be part of when the Sox would be contending. I think extending him for a couple years makes sense, especially to use him as a DH. I'd rather see him extended, but if there's a can't miss trade proposition, I would completely understand.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Machado and Harper? Cmon. The Sox do not sign guys to 10 year deals. They just don't. Wanting to sign those guys is dreamland. It's not based anywhere close to reality. Tell me names of guys Sox fans want to pay 15 mill a year to for 5 years or so. I'll point out flaws in those players. Hosmer? Not enuf power. Moustakas? Injury risk cause of conditioning. Cain? Too old. Those are just some examples. Abreu? Too old. Avi? Flash in the pan. He'll never repeat those stats. I didn't say the Sox WILL sign Machado or Harper. I said that there has been plenty of talk by fans about guys like that. However, I do believe the Sox will pursue guys like that, and they will spend during next off season. I don't know if they will get one of those guys, but it's more possible now than ever with the rebuild going the way it is. So what do you want the Sox to do? What do you expect them to do? You say you want them to win, but you haven't suggested how they can do it.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 11:42 PM) You'd want Melky over Avi? I still am waiting to see what established (non prospects) baseball players you guys think are good players and want on your team (and don't list anybody making a good dollar cause we know Sox fans don't want to pay anybody). Modern day fans slay me. Eventually I'm gonna give up and just lurk on here. I am growing weary of defending White Sox baseball players who have been in the bigs a few years. So, you haven't read any of the posts regarding Sox fans wanting the Sox to pursue big free agents like Machado and Harper? Just about all fans on this board want the Sox to spend, and many are in touch enough to realize that they will.
  11. Really have to type faster so my posts stay within the designated pattern.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 12:37 AM) Only great post in this thread IMO. Sox fans on this board overwhelmingly want the owners to spend no money, get rid of any player making a buck in pursuit of the rebuild. I can't wait to see who fans on this board someday deem worthy of a fat contract. Most of you soxtalk fans go to games. I can't believe your patience and willingness to give JR and the partners so much of your money for nothing in return (since 05). The Sox front office loves this board if they read it. You know my desires: Spend, spend spend just as fans spend 15 for a burger and 11 for a brewski. The Sox will spend but not this offseason. It is expected by anyone who understands the rebuild that they will pursue some big FAs next offseason. But you know this and still want to complain about this rebuild you don't seem to get.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) Greg, the issue is Avisail and Abreu's contracts. THey each have two years left. What Hahn needs to figure out is whether they should extend or trade either player. The worst case scenario would be to do nothing in this instance. My guess is that they try and trade Garcia this winter and lock up Abreu to a 4 year extension. The two years left for these two guys does seem to be one of the bigger concerns. I do think that Avi has figured something out, and he could be pretty productive for a while. Abreu, however, has been consistently good at the plate since he was signed. I agree that if one were traded, it would be Avi. I like the idea of extending Abreu so he'd be around for the competitive years. I wouldn't be upset if they did the same with Avi, but the Sox have enough OF talent coming that trading Avi might make more sense, especially considering what extending him might cost.
  14. I like the idea of expansion and realignment, and the referenced proposal is pretty good. I'm on the fence about the DH. I see the reasoning for the DH, but at the same time I think having the pitchers bat adds a managerial aspect which I think enhances the game. If push came to shove, though, I would probably agree to leave it the way it is with the DH in the AL only. One thing that I've not seen thrown out there is the idea of an EH vs. the DH. Have the pitchers hit (or attempt to...at least get in the box with a bat) and have a "DH" as well. So you'd have 10 hitters. I'm not sure that would work, but it would keep the DH and keep the spot in the lineup where the manager would have to be creative at times.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 12:05 AM) I hope we're not at the point where we want to trade the guys we got for the next WS team for other prospects. This madness has to stop. You take the guys we got and for better or worse they are the core of our next WS team. The trading is done unless you want to trade Avi and Abreu which I think is dumb. But the young guys we got in trades?? Geez we can't be talking about trading them. This is madness. At some point soon we need to win again. How many years in a row do you want to go sub .500?? 20-30 years in a perpetual rebuild? I repeat .. we do not trade the guys we've already traded for!! This thread was created to talk about buy low candidates. Not to trade the top prospects and abandon what they've been working toward. No one has mentioned trading the top prospects, and I would doubt there's anyone on this board that thinks that way. However, with the way you've been degrading the rebuild one would think you'd be all for trading away those top prospects to win now.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) Yes we have 2 meatballs available on the menu: The pansy scared one you alluded to... And the no balls, overworked washout lamewad Still glad it's the latter, at least til his next start. I don't think he's a scared pansy at all. I think he was overworked, and his emotions (anger) got the better of him. We've seen the emotions with him, on and off the field. Hopefully he'll get a chance to pitch again this year.
  17. If Sale had gone out yesterday and dominated while striking out 15 Astros, a thread would have been created saying look what the White Sox missed out on. And there would be comments about how Moncada didn't really impress and how Kopech will end up blowing his arm out soon enough. I tend to think that he was overworked in the regular season, especially with the Red Sox having him go back to being more of a strikeout pitcher. Add to that the evidence that he can get emotional and tends to overthrow when pissed off. If he gets to pitch again this post season we'll get a chance to see if last night was a one off or he's cooked for the year.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) You guys all love the Sale trade. A small percentage of us Sox fans think Sale and Q were a pretty potent 1-2 to head a pitching rotation and only a lousy manager in Robin prevented some pretty good success. We had some pretty good ballplayers on paper during the Sale/Q era. Hopefully the Sale trade will fuel a nice rebuild; we shall see. Uh...I don't think there's very many people, if any, that didn't think this. And it wasn't Ventura's fault that a lot of the guys "who looked good on paper" sucked.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) This season is only "miserable" if you don't actually understand what's going on. So many positives this season. Sucks you can't enjoy it. Yeah, I feel a lot better about this season than I did about 2016. The future is very bright, and it's part of the rebuild life that we have to walk through some darkness to get there.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) For many, its a black and white issue. I don't think it was just coincidence Trump popped this one off in Alabama. Puerto Rico is disaster area, Health care, tax reform, and Trump wastes his time on this...Trying to divide the country is disrespecting the flag. Fire that son of a b****. Could not agree more. People are b****ing that the NFL players should be standing, agreeing with Trump when he calls them sons of b****es. Maybe they should be a little more concerned about Trump trying to lead us to war with North Korea, Trump trying to take health care away from millions, Trump ignoring the fact that a US territory has been devastated...
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) And it's not like the guys hitting in front of him have been on base machines. True. With better hitters in front of him his numbers would be more impressive.
  22. Trump is making a huge mistake taking on the NFL and its players. These are some very influential people, especially to younger Americans, who will (hopefully) be voting in 2018 and 2020. If the players stick to what they believe and start communicating that the American people need to speak up and do something about it, things will look pretty grim for the Republican party and Trump. The one thing I can't get past is how Trump and many of his supporters believe that the neo Nazis and white suprematists are better than these football players who are peacefully protesting by kneeling or not participating in the national anthem. I see posts by some of my Facebook friends, and I'm appalled. It's hard for me to believe that people I know actually feel that way. It's very sad and disturbing what is going on in this country.
  23. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) Cool I guess. The RBI is a nearly worthless stat though. Jose also came into the league older and more experience. Jose has been a solid player though. Props RBIs are hardly a meaningless stat. Teams win games by scoring more runs than the other team. RBIs are more important to a player like Abreu than a player who is a lead-off hitter. But since Abreu is a guy who typically bats 3rd, 4th, or 5th, RBIs are important since his job is to drive in the guys who have gotten on base.
  24. 2018 will be an exciting season, and I think they'll win more games. However, I don't think they'll quite be ready to compete. The biggest reason will be the pitching. I could see the bullpen losing a lot of games next season.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Greg doesn't actually read anyone else's posts he just assumes the position and rants against it. Yeah, really the only critical talk is around his defense. Most on this board are Abreu fans.
