Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

Do the Sox make any more deals during the meetings? Regardless, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

With the way this team has played the last few years I am much more interested now. I like the trade overall, and I'm excited to see what happens next. -

Moncada starts with the Sox next year, correct? Any chance he starts in AAA? -

Wow. I wonder who the other prospects are. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Theoretically, if a trade for Sale brought back something like: Benintendi Devers E Rod Swihart + And you fielded a team of: C Swihart/Narvaez 1B Abreu/Frazier/Saladino 2B Saladino/? SS Anderson/Saladino 3B Frazier/Saladino LF Cabrera/Swihart CF Benintendi RF Eaton DH Cabrera/FA SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Rodriguez SP Fulmer SP Shields I could see that being better than a 81 win team without squinting too hard I agree with your thinking. They'd have to get back a great package (like you outlined) or get back a decent package and spend on a FA or two. Trading one of Sale or Quintana and one of Frazier or Abreu wouldn't be a salary dump. They'd save some money, but not dramatically so. There wouldn't be a lot of additional funds available for a guy like Cespedes (for example). So, yes, they could be a good team with trading Sale, but just about everything would have to go right, starting with a huge return.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Not sure Toronto has the farm system to get the Sox interested enough to deal Eaton. His value is extremely high right now and he is on a cheap contract. I looked at their top 30, and it wasn't overwhelming. However, they might have the pieces. Does anyone know if McGuire could be a legitimate catcher in the majors?

I believe that if the Sox do it right, they can trade one of Sale or Quintana along with Robertson and Cabrera and still end up with a decent team that could compete as early as 2018. Again, if they do it right. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a lot of confidence in that happening. Personally I think they need to hold on to Eaton. He's the type of guy you can build around, and as someone else mentioned, he could be the leader with an attitude of the newbies. Also, I'm not against the Sox extending Frazier. However, a move like that would make a proper rebuild a necessity. You only extend Frazier if you think you can compete in 2018. All that being said, I'll be happy if they get the right packages back for whoever they trade. We'll have a good idea what they're plan is as the dominoes start to fall. If both Sale and Quintana go, I would expect a tear-down and build from the foundation situation, which would mean a few year process. Same goes if Eaton is traded along with one of Sale or Quintana.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
hogan873 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) Or that their price wasn't met. Don't trade Sale just to trade him. I would imagine (hope) that their price will be met. There are enough teams that will be desperate enough to win that they will offer a haul for one of the best pitchers in the game who is on a very friendly team contract. However, we don't really know what the Sox will be demanding. If they are smart (and we haven't seen enough proof that they are), they'll end up with a couple guys MLB ready plus a few guys who will be ready by 2018. Looking at the farm systems of the teams rumored to be interested, I like the idea of trading with Boston or LAD over the Braves or Washington. The Sox are in a unique position where they could trade Sale, Frazier, and maybe even Quintana and still end up with a team that would be decent in 2017 and very good in 2018-19. -
Over the next year or so, I wouldn't be surprised to see some crossing of the aisles in Congress. At a minimum, I don't see a happy partnership between Trump and some of the Republicans in Congress.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) I had thought it even before recent news, but I do believe Frazier gets a long extension. I wouldn't be surprised, and I'd be okay with it depending on money. If the Sox are going to rebuild, they do have the pieces that could bring back young major league talent. So, if done right, they could be competitive as early as 2018...mind you I said if done right. Having Frazier as a leader for the young guys would be beneficial.

The fact of the matter is that the Cubs will be good next year again, and maybe for quite a few years. But the real concern should be that an AL Central team has been in the World Series 4 of the past 5 years...and none of those teams have been the White Sox. You would think that would be a wake-up call to the organization. Truly compete or burn it down and rebuild. No more half-assing this s***.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 06:02 AM) Oh my goodness. Nobody here has had a problem with the 8 billion bandwagon blackhawks fans that have emerged since 2010. gmab. It's one of the reasons that I'm not nearly the hockey fan I used to be. My point was that I can respect the Cubs and their players AND the true fans, but the number of bandwagon fans that emerged this year is insane. I wasn't talking about the Blackhawks because they didn't just win the World Series last night.
-
It's not so much the actual fans but the enormous number of bandwagon fans. Those who pretend to have been Cubs fans for life but have no idea who any of the players are. Honestly, I have to respect the players and admit that they were a damn good team this year. They almost blew it a few times but somehow managed to pull it off. But the best thing about the Series being over is not having to hear Joe Buck anymore.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) He is a brilliant actor. Easily hateable. Indeed. I haven't read the comics, but I understand that Negan is supposed to be a really bad guy but also can be charming and funny. I laughed out loud (and felt really bad about it) when he was driving the RV and a zombie's head exploded against the window and Negan said, "Remind you of anyone you know?"

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) TWD getting some mixed reviews, but I really think last night's episode and its underlying violence was needed to move the show forward. We need to understand clearly why Rick would succumb to someone like Negan and the brutality last night demonstrates why. I thought it was an excellent episode. Easily the most violent scenes ever on "regular" TV. You're right on about showing how Rick changed. It will be interesting to see how this season plays out. A thought:

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Did Clayton Kershaw retire? I wouldn't want to speak for the original poster, but he did say "at a bargain price". Kershaw is better, I believe, but Sale's extremely friendly contract makes him that much more valuable.

I just got the PS4...for my son. He likes the first person shooter games, and I absolutely suck at them. I like the sports games. We did play Madden 17 the day he got the PS4, and it is bad ass. I had some trouble with getting online, so it wasn't the full experience. Noe that I have the network stuff fixed I want to play it again and maybe MLB The Show. I'll need to talk him into letting me play...

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) That would require an INSANE amount of content. I N S A N E It sure would be. I would hope, though, that they continue to put out quality programming. Going for quantity by skimping on quality could end up with fewer subscribers, especially if they reduce the amount of content from the outside.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) I enjoyed The Good Place. Some good laughs in there. Excited for Designated Survivor tonight. Would have been 100 times better on a cable network, though, so I'm not holding my breath. How many times will he say "dammit"?

Started watching Bloodline on Netflix. Man is that a good show. All of the characters are great, but Ben Mendelsohn's Danny is fantastic.

Baseball game tonight - Joliet Slammers. They're at least headed to the playoffs, and it's an inexpensive good time. Whole lot of nothing Saturday and Sunday. Got invited to a pool party Monday. Much beer throughout the weekend.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) So much misinformation out there on Puig, hard to know where teams really stand. I just know that I will be on record that I'd be all for him. Then again, I've said it for a while and the price I would have paid for him would have been much greater a year ago, so probably a good thing the Sox don't listen to me when it comes to Puig. I do know he is the type of lottery ticket who could be a HUGE HUGE spark plug for the team (if he can play to his tools), but he's also been the guy of declining metrics with injury issues for the past couple of seasons too. I'd be on board with the Sox acquiring him, too. If it's true that the Dodgers were willing to essentially "give him away" (which I doubt), the Sox shouldn't have to give much up for him. However, I'd be very surprised if he's not claimed before the Sox's turn.

In reality, is someone not going to buy tickets to a game because of the name of the stadium? I highly doubt it. They're going to not buy tickets because the product on the field is bad. If the Sox somehow make the right moves, compete, and make it to the playoffs in 2017, no one will care what the name of the stadium is. All that being said, they have to fix the problems on the field.
-
It's a pretty bad name for a stadium, but it really doesn't matter. It's at least a local company that obviously wanted to invest in the park. And it doesn't seem like the White Sox had much (if any) say in it. But you have to wonder what the powers that be are thinking about the fan reaction. It seems like the reaction is pretty negative across the board with maybe a small sliver of the pie saying "who cares." The White Sox have so many other problems that need to be addressed. The name of their stadium is pretty low on the list of concerns.

If he continues through the end of the season hitting like he is, I wouldn't mind seeing a one year deal for 2017, maybe with an option for 2018. I could definitely see some other teams having interest in him, though, so he might command a little more than the Sox would be willing to pay.
