QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) OK get rid of Lawrie and it'll be Davidson at third, Anderson at short, Saladino at second and Frazier DH. That's a start. Saladino and Davidson and Anderson have a fighting chance. Lawrie is the least of this team's concerns. He's been decent and actually pretty good in spurts. Plus his energy is something this team needs.

Season finale of Turn was great. That show, along with The Americans, is some of the best TV on right now in my opinion. Another one of my favorites, Tyrant returns next week. Looking forward to that.

I'm quite impressed with what I've seen so far. His defense has been great, which is what was expected. Aside from his lack of patience (which will hopefully improve as he sees more ML pitching), his offense is better than what I expected. He has more power than I thought, and he's fast when he gets on base. I like him hitting lead-off even though he hasn't walked yet. Having him and Eaton at the top of the lineup has been exciting. If he can start taking some walks, they'll be a very dangerous duo setting the table for the power.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 07:41 AM) I mean, am i really reading an argument about the validity of a bet(and the qualifications of said bet) that ends in someone eating a hat? message boards ftw now and forever. CB2.0 wouldnt have eaten the hat anyways Well, we don't know that. The thing about message boards is that they're basically anonymous. We don't know if this individual eats hats (or other clothing for that matter). I believe, however, had Shields gone more than 5 innings as defined by the bet maker (recording at least one out after 5 innings), the taker of said bet may have asked for a video of the hat being eaten.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Nothing wrong with a little psychological reference! Well, nevermind, using the same one twice in a day is kinda weird What do you call a psychologist safely stealing a base? A Freudian Slide.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Wins are very important. I love how the sabes people love their advanced stats and yet the established baseball announcers and former players who are color analysts ONLY mention the traditional stats - wins, losses, ERA, strikeouts, walks. That said, I wish we'd trade Q to a team that could score him some runs for his sake. It's like Pavlov here - Q on the mound, the hitters don't hit. Wins are important, especially to the common fan. And you're right that the color announcers tend only to mention the traditional stats. Steve Stone did mention the other day that WHIP is an important stat, especially for relievers. Oftentimes you'll see a closer with a losing record but good other stats because those occasional blown saves can turn into losses. As far as Quintana, I've had to correct my wife and son multiple times when they've said that he's not very good. They're looking at his record without looking at one of the other most basic stats for a pitcher: ERA. Quintana's run support is horrendous. He's 5-7, and he has the lowest ERA on the team (2.63). The argument has been that wins don't matter as much when you're looking at a pitcher's value. That I will agree with. To say that Quintana is not nearly as valuable as Sale because he's 5-7 while Sale is 12-2 is very shortsighted. The other traditional stats and the advanced stats matter in regards to his value.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Remember last week when people were mad the Sox didn't use Putnam? He was hurt. They just didn't want the other teams to know. So why use him last night?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Not is agreement with trading Sale or Quintana. Look at the Dodgers and their record. Do they trade their best pitcher in Kershaw? I think not You can't even compare Sale or Quintana with Kershaw. Kershaw is owed $35 million a year through 2020. Chris Sale is owed less than $50 million TOTAL through 2019. Kershaw may be a better, but a team looking for an ace would be much more willing to trade for a guy like Sale or Quintana because of the contracts. The Sox could get a haul for either one, and if things are bleak toward the deadline, they should certainly entertain offers.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) The first two episodes of The Last Ship were on this past weekend and I am still enjoying it. Though it appears they killed off the hot one........ Yeah, it's a good show. You don't have to think too hard while watching it, but it's a good story and very entertaining. As far as killing off the hot one, I have a feeling we'll see her again.

I thought there was no way they would get out of the bases loaded no out jam. Duke really stepped up. The two strikeouts were huge, and Avila's Twister-like stretch saved Saladino's bad throw. When the inning was over, I said to my son that it was something the White Sox would do - load the bases with no outs and not score. Imagine my surprise when they took the lead in the 10th. Maybe this is a spark. Maybe this is what will get them back on track. Regardless, it was nice to see them win a game like this. Gonzalez was great; it was nice to see his outing not wasted.

This team shouldn't be sucking as bad as they are right now. There's too much talent, and things are not going their way right now. However, this team is not nearly as good as they seemed to be out of the gate. Everything was going right for the first month. If no changes were made, and things normalized, I would think this team is a 78-82 win team. That's not good enough to make the post season. If the Sox had played consistently all season and had the same record as they do now, I'm not sure we'd be as doom and gloom. We'd probably be looking at things a little more objectively. 5.5 games out of first is not terrible, but it looks a lot worse because they were 2.5 games out on Friday, and they had a chance to make some ground. That, coupled with the poor performance overall since the end of April, makes things seem pretty bad. After this weekend, I'm leaning more toward wanting to see a rebuild. As many other shave posted, the Sox could get so much for Sale and Quintana and even some additional talent for guys like Melky, Frazier, Robertson, etc. If the team is going to suck, at least have them suck for a reason as they build for the future. I just don't see them doing it, though. I think if this team sticks around 5-6 games out for a while they will try to add in order to improve. But I just don't have a lot of faith in their ability to find that impact improvement.

White Sox will not win until their players produce

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) White Sox will not win until they outscore an opponent. I did some statistic analysis and found that the amount of runs a team scores is significant in relation to the amount of runs the opposing team scores. Moreover, studies have shown that players (both offense and defense) are responsible for both scoring runs and preventing the other team from scoring runs. Webster's defines a win as "a successful result in a contest, conflict, bet, or other endeavor; a victory." Looking back at the significance of runs in a baseball game (a contest if you will), one could say with conviction that scoring more runs than the opposition could (and should) lead to a victory. Furthermore, the players being responsible for scoring the runs (and defending against opponent's runs) are significant cogs in the contest. In short, yeah, they need to play better. -
I know he hasn't been up with the Sox long, but it is so refreshing to see a position player brought up through the system and do well. The Sox have seemingly done the right thing with him. Drafted three years ago, worked his way up through the minors, and now getting a chance with the club. He's been a spark for the team, and the combination of him leading off with Eaton batting second is great.

My son and I were on the way home from his game on Monday, and when we got into the car we heard that the Sox were down by 6 in the second inning. I went into a tirade about how the Sox need to just sell and start over. I tried to get my son to understand what kind of young (potential) talent the Sox could get for players like Sale and Quintana, but I couldn't think of any specific players they could get. After the Sox came back and won I relaxed a bit, but I'm still not sold on this team being able to compete. It's not going to take much more baseball like they've been playing before we'll need to consider that the Sox should be sellers. I obviously want the Sox to win, and I want them to compete for a playoff spot this year. But I'm also becoming more and more a realist each day. If the Sox don't improve over the next month and continue to fall in the division, should the Sox seriously look to trade guys like Sale and Quintana? Would they make trades like that? And if so, what sort of players should they target? Are Sale and Quintana worth some team's top prospects?

Thanks a lot White Sox for keeping me up last night. Great comeback win. Getting 2 in the 9th was huge, but when they failed to score in the 10th and 11th I was concerned. The bullpen was awesome, especially Albers, Jones, and Duke. Robertson tried to give it away, but the baseball gods were smiling down on him. I didn't actually see the end of the game. I was following it online. Hopefully Shields was one of the first to congratulate Eaton.

Matt Albers has caught his breath, and the rest of the team is ready to go after a day off following a marathon 13 inning win. Let's see if they can keep the winning streak alive. Carlos Rodon (2-4, 4.24) takes the hill against Jordan Zimmerman (7-2, 2.52). Unlike in the series with the Mets, a good number of the Sox have faced Zimmerman before. Jimmy Rollins has seen him 32 times and sports a .188 average against him. I imagine, however, that we'll see him in the lineup tonight. Go Sox!

They're both pitching like #5 starters. Latos started out amazingly, but his last few starts have been not so good. His most recent start was okay as two of those runs were unearned. Still, I think what we see now is what we'll have from this point on...at best. Gonzalez started out rather poorly and has been slowly improving. If he can get the BB numbers down, he's look a lot better. I feel that he's trending toward being a better pitcher than Latos, but probably not by much. With both of them, I feel that in every inning, with every pitch, there's the potential for a bad (very bad) inning. Right now they're both getting by without giving up the a ton of runs. If they can give us 5-6 innings giving up 3 runs or less, that would be great. But, no one likes the idea of having two #5 starters in the rotation. All that being said, I'd prefer Gonzalez mainly because I think he's trending better while Latos is trending worse.

The Mets have left 17 runners on today.

Just not yet...

Luck's going to run out soon enough with all of the walks.

The Sox did something last night they haven't done in a week. They won a game. Let's hope they can do it again and take the series. Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50) faces off against Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.81). Like yesterday's game, most of the Mets have seen Gonzalez before, but only two White Sox hitters have faced deGrom before (Frazier and Rollins). First pitch is at 12:10 PM CDT. Go Sox!
