QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Adam Hoge @AdamHoge 6m6 minutes ago Chris Sale: "We have a much bigger problem on our hands than Kenny coming in here and kicking out a kid and LaRoche retiring." And what would that be? The fact that some players complained? Is there now a rift between players? I can't imagine what else he'd be referring to.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Nah. He should definitely tone it down, but if he pitches a Cy Young caliber season no one will care about his actions here. I agree. Same with Eaton. Tone it down (or better yet, just stop) and go out there and play well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) He chose his family over his job. It happens. It isn't Michael Jordan "retiring" so he can go drive his kids around. This guy actually walks the walk and talks the talk when it comes to his kids. Please. He threw a temper tantrum because he was asked to limit how often his son is there, not because he was told his son is banned. He quit. I think we all say good riddance. It's a good thing he chose his family over his job, because he sucks at his job. I'm sure he's better at being a father.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) For the love of God, stop with the he quit on them. It is exactly what 99.99% of this board wanted him to do all winter. Now he's a quitter. Seriously? WE wanted him to quit. I'm saying he quit on his teammates, and they're backing him and his decision. And yes, he is a quitter.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) It's no wonder why Drake LaRoche liked the clubhouse so much. He was in a room full of his peers. No kidding.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) Bruce Levine @MLBBruceLevine 40s40 seconds ago Adam Eaton said Jerry Reinsdorf will talk to the team in the next few days JR needs to tell the players to stop the b****ing and get to work. And do any of these players care that their teammate quit on them? Granted he was pretty useless, but still, he quit on them.

Thankfully most of the Sox players are keeping their mouths shut. Sale and Eaton need to follow suit, shut up, and play baseball.

One of the more frustrating things for me is that I'm losing respect for some guys, specifically Sale and Eaton. They are both young, and we all know Sale has a temper. And publicly, the players are backing LaRoche. That's fine, that's what they are supposed to do. I'm hoping that some of these new leaders (Frazier, Rollins, etc.) will talk to some of these younger guys and work to get this team unified. It's interesting that the majority of the media is backing the Sox, and from what I can see it seems like many of the fans are backing the Sox. Folks like CM Punk and Chipper Jones blasting the Sox isn't necessarily helping LaRoche, who aside from his meat company's posts has been quiet. As someone had mentioned before, if LaRoche decided to quit over this, he most likely has been looking for a reason to quit. He was terrible last year and seemed disengaged. He was supposed to be a leader in the clubhouse while supplying the Sox with a much needed left-handed power. Seems like he failed on both parts.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 7m7 minutes ago The main thrust of Chris Sale's anger with Kenny Williams was that he's not around enough to understand the dynamics of White Sox clubhouse. Well, the dynamics of the clubhouse last year worked out well. Why change anything? KW made the right decision. Whether or not some of the players approached him and complained, it seems pretty obvious that this whole things has become a distraction.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) David Haugh 4 mins · Twitter · If Adam LaRoche indeed retired from #WhiteSox cuz team said he couldn't have teenage son around anymore, he was looking for reason to leave. I agree. This was probably what tipped it in for him. I couldn't imagine him wanting to throw away $13 million because of this alone.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) Well, from a baseball perspective, Avi Garcia/Melky Cabrera just penciled in as your everyday DH. Austin Jackson signing just became very important as he's now penciled in as a starter. Good point. Jackson is the everyday centerfielder while Eaton would play one of the corners. I imagine the Sox will be looking for a left-handed bat that could supply some power, though. Trouble is that the pickings are slim.

Wow. This is a shock. I hope everything is okay with him. Now what do the Sox do? I wonder if the front office has known about this possibility for a while,

Did Latos pitch in the B game? Anyone know how he looked?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Another fantastic episode of Walking Dead this past week. Yeah, I like how there is no wasted time as the group gets closer and closer to meeting Negan. I was expecting an episode or two of characters debating going after the Saviors, etc. The church scene could have been a half episode in previous seasons. Lulling themselves into a false sense of security is just getting us geared up for the season finale. I wouldn't be surprised if two characters get killed off.

Very solid signing. It's even a better signing knowing that Eaton can move to one of the corner spots with his arm issues. As others have mentioned, Jackson may not be a huge offensive upgrade, but defensively he's so much better. An outfield of Eaton, Jackson, and Cabrera sounds a lot better than an outfield of Cabrera, Eaton, and Garcia.

AMC is developing a series based on Dan Simmon's The Terror. I loved the book. I hope the series does it justice. It is supposed to air sometime in 2017.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) So, it's one thing to say that it was a really good action movie that they added some depth to. I'd agree with that. It did have some feminist overtones, and the characters had a little more interest than some of your typical actioners. But to say the movie was "about" tragedy, family, mental illness, etc. is quite a stretch. I would agree. It was a great movie, probably one of the most visually stunning films I've seen. I think it got the nod as a best picture nominee for that and the fact that they've expanded the number of films that can be nominated. But it wasn't on the same level as Spotlight (which I watched the day of the Oscars). I'm not sure I agree with expanding the number of films for best picture. I might agree that there are more than 5 each year that deserve recognition, but in the past it didn't seem to be a huge deal when five were nominated. There was always talk of snubs and surprises, but you still hear about that now when up to 10 can be nominated. All that being said, I think the right film won. And Mad Max won the awards it should have won.

That would be great, but of course we'll all want to see how he fares in the AL. But to have third base figured out for quite a few years would be awesome.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) "What?" That was classic. Overall a great episode that did a good job of setting up the confrontation with Negan. The big question is who, if anyone, will meet Lucille this season?

The battle for shortstop - applying some odds
hogan873 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nice write up and breakdown. I would pretty much agree with the chances of each to be the starter. I think the starting SS job is Rollins' to lose. He signed with the Sox over other teams (at least the Giants) because he believes he has a real chance to be the starting SS for the Sox. If he proves to be at least pretty good in ST, I expect him to be starter while being a mentor to the younger guys. I think the Sox are definitely prepping Anderson to be the starting SS for the Sox in 2017 and beyond. Therefore, I don't see him being on the major league roster come opening day. Barring injuries and/or very poor performance by others, he might see some action in September. Saladino and Sanchez are the wild cards. One of them will most likely end up being a bench player/utility guy for 2016. I would think that Saladino would be that guy, but there's an argument to me made that playing everyday in AAA will prepare him better for whatever the Sox have planned for him. Which I honestly don't know what that is. Third base after two years on Frazier? Second base? Or will we see him traded before the season starts or before the deadline? I think Sanchez ends up in AAA unless the scenario occurs where Saladino is in AAA to develop. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Yeah...that was a great episode. The return had some good and some terrible, but this was really good. The whole season and how they did it was pretty choppy though, but I'm a fan of having the mini story within an episode with the bigger story arch getting focus (although I know some people aren't necessarily big fans of X-files when it was more focused on the larger story arch). I haven't watched the final episode yet, and I'm excited to see it. I can agree with what you're saying about the season for the most part. Throughout a full season before, the X-Files always had a few episodes that dealt with the overall story arc while mixing in a couple creepy/scary episodes (like the one about the Trashman) and at least one funny episode (The Were-Monster). Trying to create the same flow over 6 episodes didn't quite work. If it comes back (and I hope it does), 10-12 episodes would be perfect.

I would think he'll be a backup or not on the team after spring training, correct? Is this a hint of a possible trade involving Sanchez or just adding a just in case guy?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) I agree that the answer is already on the roster: Avi Garcia. Let the kid play. At this point, I'm okay with this. If he's horrible against right handed pitching, Shuck can platoon with him. If the Sox are in it at the deadline and right field is a black hole, they can make a trade. I would love to see Avi succeed, and maybe the work he's done over the winter will help. My guess is that we will see. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 06:17 AM) I'm waiting until all 8 are up to do my free month of Hulu to watch. I had just bought a Roku so I was offered three months free, which works out perfectly.
