  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) I will be glad when this thread finally ends. This is the longest saddest plodding-est thread for a player that we all merely kind of want but dont want to part with a draft pick. I'll be glad when this off season is over.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 07:12 AM) Not high profile enough... Maybe not, but my point was that you'd think that a writer might have mentioned that something was cooking. After the weeks and weeks of speculation with the big tree outfielders, it's been dead quiet. I could imagine a signing of an outfielder could pop up without any smoke leading up to it.
  3. With the Latos signing happening without the local writers even mentioning it before it happened, we could very well see the same thing happen with an outfielder being signed. It surprised me that there was nothing even mentioned until after he signed, and he was in Chicago the day before for a physical.
  4. Seems like a real bargain. I would think he ends up in competition with Johnson and Danks, unless the Sox are working on something that sends Johnson elsewhere.
  5. Another teaser for 10 Cloverfield Lane was dropped right before the Superbowl. Parts of the movie do take place outside of the bunker...the question is how much. It was another great teaser, just showing enough to get your attention and want more. I wonder if they'll do another viral marketing campaign like with Cloverfield.
  6. With the news that there doesn't seem to be a match between the Sox and Dodgers, I would think (hope) that the Sox are looking at Fowler still. He may not be the best upgrade we could have hoped for, but he would certainly be an upgrade over Avi. Having Eaton and Fowler at the top of the lineup would be great for Abreu, Frazier, and Melky. I'm thinking 3/$40 or so would probably get the job done.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) The renovations helped a lot, if they never updated the outfield and upper deck it would feel every bit of that 25 years. Indeed. It's actually a pretty nice place to watch a game.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 06:48 AM) Agreed. If I were the Dodgers, I'd rather keep Ethier than trade him for LaRoche and Danish. I think a trade that could work for both teams would be Ethier + 6.5M in exchange for a Sox reliever. I agree. If a trade were to happen, it would probably be one of those trades that Dodgers fans would think is terrible because they'd only see a reliever coming back for a fan favorite. But with their overabundance of outfielders who are owed significant amounts of money, the Dodgers would be looking to thin the herd, get a decent reliever in return, and save a bit of money.
  9. Before I read that you had gotten her a rabies shot a month ago, my first reaction was an allergic reaction to a shot. My dog had allergic reactions to the rabies and distemper shots twice to the point where we had to take to him the animal hospital. The symptoms were very similar to what you described. So, it could be an allergic reaction to something. Had the dog eaten anything out of the ordinary, or is there anything different in the house? Safest thing to do would be to take her to the vet.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Umm...even with those numbers, would you be comfortable paying $36 million over 2 years to a 33 year old who's essentially a platoon player at this point? I'm desperate, but not that desperate. He may be a platoon player, but he hits right-handed pitching well, and a large percentage of pitchers are right-handed. The money is a concern, of course, but I would imagine the Sox wouldn't make a deal unless the Dodgers send some cash and/or the Sox don't give up much. Ethier is a good option, especially if the Sox want to take advantage of the next two years with Frazier, Abreu, Sale, Quintana...
  11. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Interesting that Dan Hayes is now saying if the Sox add an OF that it doesn't mean Avi would be the odd man out. Just weird that he's went from all but ruling out a move to finding a place for Avi to get at bats. Maybe just DFA Frazier and put Garcia at third? Seriously, though, I assume he could platoon at DH with LaRoche while taking some innings in the outfield.
  12. It would be pretty awesome to see him sign a one year contract. As someone else had mentioned, if he's been working out and his shoulder seems fine, he'd probably be a better option as the 5th starter over Danks.
  13. If the Sox were to acquire Jennings, does he easily replace Garcia is right field? His offensive numbers look similar to Garcia's. Is he that much of an upgrade defensively? Not being sarcastic...I just don't know much about his defense.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Or you could just wait, get your time machine and go back in time to do it. Or maybe he already has.
  15. There's no doubt that the Sox have the potential to be dangerous. Things have to go right, and players have to perform. And if another outfielder isn't added, even more things will have to happen. Certainly, this is what will have to happen: - Abreu, Sale, and Quintana will have to repeat 2015, if not get better - LaRoche will have to recover to near his career norms - Garcia must improve greatly, offensively and defensively - Frazier will have to be the guy he was the first part of 2015 - Lawrie must NOT be Beckham part 2 - Navarro and Avila will need to an effective platoon And the list goes on. But if LaRoche can get back to .240+ with 20+ HRs, that changes things greatly. I have more faith that he can do that than I do in Garcia being effective. There's no doubt the Sox have wanted to replace him as they were in on Cespedes and Gordon. It will be a disappointment if they don't continue to pursue other avenues to do so, but if Garcia ends up being the starter on opening day he's going to be under a ton of scrutiny. Yes, the Sox have the potential to be dangerous, but they had the potential to be dangerous last year, too. We all saw how that worked out.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) This move makes it way more likely the Sox get Fowler, IMO. No doubt in my mind he ends up with either the Cubs, Sox or Angels. That's my thinking. It would seem his going to the Cubs is not likely now.
  17. I know we didn't get the whole story through the documentary, but unless they left out a lot of stuff, I don't think he did it. One thing that really blew my mind was that Avery was found not guilty of mutilating a corpse but Dassey was found guilty.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) What we need is a catchy hashtag!!! #halfwaythere #almostnotquite #maybe2017 #wetried
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) What's the highest salary you would have the White Sox pay him for one, two and three years? Would you stop at three or go to four? How close would you be willing to go to $68-72 million? No way. He might get a Melky-like contract, but I would think that since he hasn't signed yet he'll end up with a smaller deal. I could see the Sox offering 2/$26 or 3/$40...something like that.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 06:18 AM) 3 of the last 4 years Fowler has put up a better WAR than CarGo. Including CarGo's 40 homer season in 2015. I'd rather the Sox sign Fowler and lose the pick than trade some established prospects for CarGo.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) I really was irritated during sentencing when the judge said that Averys crimes progressively got worse. The way he framed it, it seemed as if he was including that rape that he was exonerated from in the progression That's how I viewed it, too. At least from what we were told through the show, most of his crimes were relatively minor until the supposed murder. It certainly sounded like the judge was including the rape.
  22. I don't think there's any way the Sox would sign both Fowler and Desmond as both have QOs. I could see either Jackson and Desmond or just Fowler. Desmond could be quite the signing if they were able to get him cheap (which seems fairly likely) and if he bounces back. Lot of ifs, of course, but I think he's he worth the gamble on a two year deal.
  23. Thank you for starting this thread. I don't know a lot about who the Sox have in the minors aside from the obvious, and those are the ones that the Sox may not be willing to part with. I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this board, so I'm interested in hearing what they have to say. I will answer the second part of the post and say that I probably would not be willing to trade Fulmer or Anderson for who would be available right now.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) Mets have Colon for insurance too, right? And for consumption of leftover pizza.
  25. The second episode of The X-Files last night was great. Much like the original run, it was a standalone case while the overall series plot line was referenced. Mulder and Scully easily fell back into their banter, complete with Mulder's dry, sarcastic comments. It's a shame there are only four more episodes. Hopefully they'll bring it back again next season.
