After all the hand-wringing and speculation, this trade seems like a steal. Good job. I can't imagine the A's fans are too happy.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) I keep reading from A's fans that Beane is going to "fleece" Hahn again like with Shark. My belief is that is not the case, I would take the first round draft pick over any of the four players that the Sox gave up. Thoughts? The draft pick the Sox will get because Samardzija signed elsewhere could be better than the players the Sox sent over there. I just look at the fact that it wasn't Shark's fault the Sox sucked last year. There were so many bad things that happened, and his poor pitching was just a small part of that.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:51 AM) Yeah Herrera telling him he's going to aim for his head next time he sees him...that was classy...god I hate the Royals *edit* Somebody should have told that 6 year old to stay back! She didnt know how unstable Lawrie is.... Well, he wasn't wearing his batting helmet. Otherwise, he may have thrown it down causing it to hit the little girl.

AMC is developing a series based on Joe Hill's NOS4A2. Joe Hill, as some may know, is Stephen King's son. His writing is similar to King's, but he has his own voice. I thoroughly enjoyed NOS4A2 and knowing it's going to AMC gives me hope. Less of a chance of an Under the Dome disaster.

What's his contract status? From what I read he's eligible to be a free agent in 2018, but I didn't see what he was owed for the next two years. I like the idea, provided the price isn't too high. He's young, has some fire, and his numbers aren't bad. I think we'd all love to see Frazier, but I think we know what kind of package the Reds would demand. Hopefully this the first of several moves.

It's been a very quiet start to the meetings. I fear that the Sox may not do much. I know there's still a few days left in the meetings and plenty of time afterwards, but I really expected to see some action by now...or at least hear some promising rumors. Hopefully today is the day when something happens.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) lets think of it this way, 5 mil to start this discussion, a pitching prospect, a viable one, for a very good 1b defensive player who still will put up at least 15 hrs..... nice deal. I think the Sox would have to eat at least half, and that's not something they normally do. However, this could be an instant where they do it. LaRoche is a good defensive 1B, and I imagine his hitting will improve next year (it HAS to, right?). I think regardless of who ends up with LaRoche (and honestly I think it'll be the Sox), they'll see a guy improved over last year. If he could return to near his career norm of around .260 with 20 HRs or so, I think we'd all be happy as pigs in slop. And then there's this to consider: If the Sox trade him, who is the new DH? Would it be one Melky or Avi if they sign Upton? Would it be another FA signing or trade?

Are there any NL teams hard up for a first baseman? And if so, how many would be willing to take on that salary?

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) From Nashville: I still don't believe the White Sox will add any free agent that will cost them a draft pick. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/673900680839565313 I've been wrong before, and I probably will be again at some time. But as of now, I feel confident on that one https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/673900812796563456 White Sox are targeting infield: 3B, SS even 2B. But their real target is simply making dynamic improvements to a poor '14 offense overall https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/673901294269132800 Let's hope. I'd love to see a big splash, whether it's by trade or FA signing.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) When it comes to lack of funds, I dispute everything he says. There is an extensive track record showing he isn't being straight. I think we should know by now that there's always some money available that the Sox don't talk about. In the past, I can remember some of the folks on this board with inside info saying that if the right player was available and they fit what the Sox were trying to do, they could find the money. That being said, I'm not sure that a high-priced OFer would be the type of guy they'd find money for. I think they'd spend elsewhere first.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) I think he can be sent down, but I think it is more likely he would move on. The Sox don't want to pay guys $2 million to play at Charlotte. Maybe there is someone somewhere who can figure out a way to get Avi to recognize pitches. He works hard, but until he changes some things up, it seems his star is dimming quickly. Still, Upton has to be considered unlikely I would assume. I would agree. I would be very surprised if the Sox were to make a big signing like that. And I'm not sure I'd say I would be pleasantly surprised based on what kind of contract he's likely to get, and the fact that it would cost a pick.
-
So if the Sox sign Upton, what is the likely scenario with Garcia? Do they trade him? Does he have options left to be sent down?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) drown what? The scintillating talk about a tv show app? Fine. I retract my last comment.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) The 15 total posts about the challenge must have really ruined all of your guys' day. The 15 posts turn into enough to drown the thread when the show is on.

I would be surprised if the Sox pulled off a major trade, that being one involving Quintana. I could see a Lawrie trade and maybe a couple smaller signings/trades. The signing of two veteran catchers for one year deals makes me believe the Sox want to go for it and compete. At the same time, though, I'd be surprised if any of the young talent goes anywhere. Long story short, I have no idea. I'm looking forward to next week, though.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 07:40 AM) Whoever just gave that s*** its own thread, thank you very much. Glad I wasn't the only one. I second this word of thanks.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) Laroche still plays a capable 1b. Those guys don't. The value of the all or nothing slugger is fading If only LaRoche could play 1st and have someone else bat for him.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) For those of you who watch a lot of shows and want to keep up with when new episodes are on and which ones you haven't watched yet I would suggest the "TV Shows Favs" app. I have been using it for a few years and it helps me out a lot I took your advice and looked at the app store. Found one called Next Episode. It's free, but there's a Pro option for $1.99. I upgraded, and it's worth it. I think the best feature is What's Next. It will tell you when the next new episode of every one of your shows will be on. Thanks for the info.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Not an exciting move, but at least Flowers is gone. Beckham and Flowers are gone. Good start to the off season.
-
Looking at his stats, it looks like he's been more of a platoon/back-up guy except for a couple years. One would expect the Sox to truly use a platoon approach with him and Avila.
-
One less thing to worry about.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) I expected some more action given the set-up. I think the reality is, the episode was disappointing because we expected more "deaths" than anything else. Instead, it looked like they halted some more of the killing until the return. Yeah, there was a lot of hype going into the episode, and there were many theories and guesses as to who might die or lose a body part. What they did was actually end it on a cliff-hanger. You just know something bad is about to go down. Now we have to wait 2 months.

With a long weekend coming up, I needed to start a show that I could watch a couple episodes a night. After poking around on demand, I settled on Orphan Black. I watched a couple episodes, and now I'm wondering why I didn't start watching it before. Great show.

QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) I believe the tower was part of the church that the wolves hit with the truck. Where DeAnne"s son was. Though not 100% sure Yes, it was. It was shown to be creaking and beginning to fall apart a couple times throughout the episode.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) I'd rather the Sox send him down to AAA or keep him around in case of injury than give him away for nothing. But I'd bet some teams would put some value in him in a larger exchange of players. His potential is tantalizing. This is how I view it. He does have potential, and just because he hasn't reached it doesn't mean he won't one day. And maybe a team that wants to see if he can reach that potential will offer the Sox a decent trade. I have a feeling the Sox are not as high on him as they once were, but they won't let him go for peanuts.
