GT 4/29: This ends tonight! White Sox vs. Rays - 6:10 CT
hogan873 replied to The Beast's topic in 2023 Season in Review
I’d go with the latter. -
Moncada actually dealing with a back issue.
hogan873 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, at this point, Burger is doing fine. I really don't care when Moncada comes back. If he's having bad back issues, who knows if he'll ever be 100% when he comes back. It's a shame. I really hoped we were going to see 2019 or 2021 Moncada again. -

I had it in my head that today was an off day. Now we have something to not look forward to. I may have to consume a rare Thursday beer. -
Are the 2023 White Sox the worst Sox team you've ever seen?
hogan873 replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oddly enough I was thinking of getting MLB TV so I could watch the Pirates. Being originally from Pittsburgh, I still follow them some, and they're at least an exciting team. -
I know I'm not alone having stopped watching the games. If I hadn't already bought tickets for one game (our annual get together with friends), I don't know if I would go to a game this season. I had been planning on going to a few with my son home from college for the summer, but now neither of us have any interest. I don't see attendance being so bad as to result in a change in the front office. But I don't see how attendance won't take a significant hit. This is a boring, bad team full of guys who don't care. They say the right things in interviews and soundbites, but we see what we see on the field.

True enough that Hahn has not done a great job putting together a winning team. But what we're seeing now is a team full of guys who don't care and are not interesting in trying. I'm sick and tired of seeing the lackluster approaches at the plate, the bad inning after bad inning from the starting pitchers, the inability to throw strikes from the bullpen, and the overall lack of interest in getting better. It's nearing time to clean house, both in the front office and in the clubhouse.

Saw Evil Dead Rise on Saturday. Best horror movie I've seen in a long time. I'm a huge fan of the Evil Dead series, and this one stands up well against the original and Evil Dead 2. After a brief intro, that we quickly find out is a bit in the future, the movie gets to its setting (an apartment building in LA). There was some character introductions and quick plot build-up before the horror starts about 25 minutes into the runtime. What follows is relentless horror, dread, and gore until the end. Plenty of jump scares and "look out behind you" moments are peppered with some great comedy (albeit dark comedy). I'm glad I saw it in the theater (I dragged my 18 year old daughter along). It was so cool hearing the gasps, screams, and "oh my god"s along with seeing people jump and cover their faces. If you're a horror fan, and if you like the Evil Dead series, you'll like Evil Dead Rise. I recommend seeing it in the theater.

Finishing with 100+ losses SHOULD get just about everyone fired...but it won't.

Giolito looked great. He threw a lot of pitches, but they were good pitches. He didn't struggle to get guys out. He had a nice mix of strikeouts and balls put into play. Best of all, he looked confident. Burger is absolutely smoking the baseball right now. He needs to play as much as possible. Like someone else mentioned, sit Eloy if you have to. Bummer is frustrating because he has great stuff, but he can't find the control right now. Hopefully he gets it back. And we need more Lopez like the Lopez we saw last night.

A team full of healthy, talented players could be bad if they had a bad manager. A team, like the current Sox team, with some talent, young players, a few veterans, plenty of injuries, and a poor bullpen could be decent to good with a great manager. They could also really stink with a bad manager. I don't think everything we've seen so far is on Grifol. He's made a few good moves with the bullpen, and he's made some head-scratchers. Lineups have been okay...better than LaRussa's. In-game decision making has been hit and miss. I think Grifol is really being challenged right now with how the team is performing. It's not his fault Bummer can't find the strike zone, nor is it his fault the same made-of-glass players are getting hurt. But going to Diekman repeatedly is a bad decision, as is playing Hanser as often as he has. I'm willing to give him a chance. If he can steer this sinking ship to port safely, he'll be a good manager. But, damn, there's storm after storm in his path with this team.
-
This is one of the most frustrating things so far. All of the pitchers have struggled with this, but the damn bullpen is horrendous. Multiple walks when guys like Bummer and Diekman are pitching is a given. There just seems to be no confidence. And opposing teams are being patient, taking advantage of the piss-poor pitching. If they can turn this part around, they'll be a better staff. Still not a good to great staff, but better.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30

This team is challenging my love for baseball. I think I’m done devoting my time and energy until they win a series. This is ridiculous. -

This team looks so bad. No discipline, horrendous bullpen, terrible situational hitting. -

This team is so fucking frustrating. -
I think some teams have done this. I believe the Sox once had an opponent intentionally walk a batter after the Sox sacrificed the ghost runner to 3rd. And in typical White Sox fashion, they rolled into a double play. They eventually lost the game, of course.

Lenyn Sosa Called Up // Anderson out 2-4 weeks
hogan873 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't have thought he had played that many games. And I think that's because, as you mentioned, he always seems to be wincing and limping and showing signs of being hurt. Either he's dramatic and is not in as much pain as he shows, or he plays hurt a lot. I actually think it's both. He definitely seems dramatic at times, especially when he takes a big swing or fouls a ball of his body. But he plays hard, especially defensively, and probably is banged up at times. -
I couldn't watch the game but followed along online. I think Cease will always give this team a chance to win, even when he doesn't have his best stuff. Hanser is already better than Leury...offensively anyway. Lopez nailed it down. That's encouraging.

Terrible slide by Cruz. Not sure what Santana was pissed about. -
f*** this team.

It’s game number 8 and I’m sick of this team. Pitching is atrocious.
-
Robert is so damn strong.

Who had Clevinger as the team’s second best starter on their bingo card?
